Could you get in touch with the breeder to see if he/she has had any reports of a defect? That would be helpful to the vet. Continuing to pray for your precious baby.

Thank you for your thoughts. After one full week in the hospital, Taco is home! It is a lot of work. I have to feed him every 4 hours. He needs medicine 10 times a day (five different medicines twice a day). He needs baths 1-2 times a day to prevent infection. There is also a lot of cleaning up the house from his leaky bum :P
There is a large bacterial overgrowth in his intestines. The liver test came back normal. The pancreas test comes back in five or so days. They put him on an enzyme suppliment incase if that is the problem to get him started. He is also getting b-12 shots because his levels are really low.
It's 100% worth it to have him back.
His weight is still the same and he has diarrhea still, but its less frequent which is encouraging. Hopefully he'll start gaining and absorbing nutrients soon! We are checking back in to get his weight done and get his next shot and to check everything else out in a few days.

Low B12 sounds like Pernicious Anemia which can trigger the other neurological and digestive problems. If that is it the root cause of his problems, Little-bit will be on the B12 shots permanently. I know, I have to shoot up myself for that one. Still once every few weeks beats the heck out of multiple times per day of insulin he could face.
Give him an ear-rub from me and tell him to get better and grow big.Posted 4 years ago by ailuromaniac #

Thanks everyone! We finally know what is wrong with Taco!!!
He has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. This means his pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes. This causes diarrhea, weight loss, malnutrition, and many other things. We now have him on a twice a day medication with enzyme supplements and a prescription diet and he is doing wonderful! His poops are formed and solid. He has gained weight and is now 1 lb and 12 oz!
The doctor said it is a lifetime condition where he will always need medicine and care, but he should grow into a happy, healthy cat and life a nice long life. Yay :D
He also needs b-12 shots for at least another month once a week. Then they will recheck his levels to see if that is something that needs to be continued or something that will fix itself (it can go either way).
Feeny is happy to have Taco back.
