  1. My tdk family what is going on?

Evertime I turn around someone is being pushed out and away and made to feel unwelcomed! Why is this happening? This is supposed to be a site for everyone everywhere who has cats or ever had cats. it's all based on the love of all things feline!

I have noticed that as time passes the closeness of the tdk seems to dwindle, they regilars are leaving and being replaced by newbies. We need newbies to continue our growth but not at the expense of the regulars! So many of us have left or been torn away by life that we are loosing the love and comradarie I came to love from here!

This is saddening and a horrible situation! I understand as we age we change and that nothing can stay the same forever, but here was one place I thought it would!

I miss talking with the old timers, and my friends FH and Neenie and Jo and ever other member that has been driven off for one reason or another! I was taught family sticks together and we defend our own at all costs so why is it that a few members are able to drive others off?

I think the Tdk needs to think about what we are loosing and why! Because at this rate the original old timers are going to fade to black to a point no one will remember them.

  2. I feel things are changing too Ange.Everything changes and I don't know if I believe people are being run off or not. I feel the closeness is still here and the newbies have got lots to add also. I think most people are leaving because they've found something else or TDK is not meeting their needs for some reason. It is their choice Ange. This is how I see it however I could be wrong.
Try to relax and get some rest. Sweet Dreams Baby girl.

  3. Well said buttercup! But, I will remember them. I suppose I could be considered a newbie, although I feel like I was born here.

  4. LV, think of it this way. A chat room is like a neighborhood made up of all different kinds of people. If, say, a neighborhood starts to go through some changes due to new people moving in, and the ones who were there first find the conversation drivel, inane and annoying, and leave...have the original people been DRIVEN out by the new people? Couldn't they have just not gone to the threads that they found below their standards? I truly do not understand why it was seen as a problem that SOME of Dee's posts, actually a pretty small percentage overall, were asked to be taken off list or at least have a detail-free warning in the headline due to the content. Dee could have started her own blog on animal abuse news and would have been free to post on TDK something along the lines of "New post on my blog about Animal Abuse in Labs" (for instance) and people could have gone there who wanted all of the details. Everyone could have stayed friends and all would have been well. This is what happens when people take personal offense instead of looking for compromise.

  5. Tyrany of the undiciplined discomfited.

KM has labled his site a 100% fluffy zone without censorship. Until someone complains then the "offensive material" is expunged. The person who had the audacity to "offend" by posting "unfluffy" material is repremanded with words stating that the expurgiation is not censorship but imposing standards.

Clear warnings that something is not for the faint of heart do not appear garner a "heed the warning signs" missive to the compliant nor is a simple closing of a contentious thread used (with one notible exception) to give it time to pass to the next page since most keep up only with the recent postings with rare exceptions.

Hence we have entered the "NANNY STATE" where if someone is offended there is a rush to soothe the ruffled feathers. The defense is there is a preponderence of complaints reported. Is there a minimum 7 bad to 1 good ratio applied based on the marketing model that unhappy customers bad mouth the product to 7 potential customers where happy customers only tell the tale one time. We have no measure. There are no voting buttons so KM certainly has to receive a very unscientific means of determining when to "not censor" the board in the face of a "significant number of complaints".

Then people move on... Either announcing their exit or not because they are not validated and are not happy with being a thorn in someone's side.

    Me, I'll be a thorn.

  6. Actually, it's unfortunate that this is all being soooooo blown out of proportion. When CatRancher added the word 'inane' to Terri's own list of nonsense, drivel or annoying (which was an invitation for any number of comical comments to be made)(we doooo tend to be clowns here alot!) she was being subtly funny. Terri took it seriously, and WWM came to her side protectively (as we all do with our loved ones) and it escalated from there. Pretty sad. We're adults acting like kids on the playground. tsk. tsk. tsk. I shouldn't even be posting this message..I feel like any conversation about this immediately churns up nasty feelings. Catrancher said some things she shouldn't have said, after the fact, after her feelings were hurt, after her very good friend Dee had been hurt. Their decisions to leave TDK are ones they avoided for a long time. Dee DID post warnings in almost EVERY questionable topic she ever posted. You need to be fair here. She set up the Chester Memmorial Fund for TDK to honor Jerry. That was all before me...like I said...I should just learn to keep my mouth shut. It seems some people only want to hear what makes them feel good, not anything that makes them feel shame.

  7. Just when I think it's safe to leave... I come online to read who came to the bar for a farewell toast and find that I shouldn't have left the party so early, and I quote:

Catwoman said: "Couldn't they have just not gone to the threads that they found below their standards?" (Referring to those who have left) EXACTLY! Follow your own advice! PLEASE shut your ever-loven pie hole! Haven't you ever heard that the path to hell is paved with good intentions? Holy MOG...yours is a BOULEVARD of half-truths and self-deception.

See CatRancher! See CatRancher run! Run, CatRancher, run! *heading uphill on a dirt road (less-traveled, of course)*

AND ISN'T IT CURIOUS how you know the percentage of Dee's posts that were reported..."a pretty small percentage"...were those the ones that YOU reported? Is that "pretty small percentage," say, 15%?...20%?...5%? Do you have some statistics, inside information, or did you just pull that out of the air? [editor's note: I censored myself with that "out of the air"]

    REPORT ME, please! AARRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!

  8. As I have stated before, I have never reported any of Dee's posts. I have never asked for any post to be deleted, and in my opinion the post in question should have been left as it was until people stopped posting on the thread and it slipped below the radar. As it happens, I came upon the thread after the post was deleted, so have no idea what it was even about since I never read it. Your accusation that I reported Dee is completely baseless. I have often thanked Dee on her threads for the things she posted. My only request was that subject lines not say things like "Monkey Boiled Alive at Research Lab." I asked politely without namecalling or innuendo and without talking behind anyone's back.

Catrancher, you have my email address, so if you have personal remarks to make accusing me, perhaps you can send them to me privately instead of posting them to the list. The manner in which you have chosen to leave has provoked conversation, which certainly is to be expected. I wish both you and Dee all the best.

  9. *tiptoes in quietly, wearing safety helmet, carefully avoids stepping on molehill, while watching for incoming ;-)* Maybe this isn't the time to ask, but, being what y'all consider a "newbie" I'm sure, I'll ask it anyway ~ just exactly where are people supposedly 'reporting' what they may consider offensive posts? Is there some internet site where people report personally offensive forum posts? Does the report result in the offender getting a demerit, a fine, a ticket, or what? *looks around molehill, trying to find mountain*

  10. Kitty mom, at the bottom of your post is a pink colored report thingy. I guess you push it and it tells you what to do. Or maybe it's like the bat signal and lights up the sky and the mighty KM jumps into his lear jet and handles the problem. I dunno. Please come join us for drinks and scones in the min bar. Will be waiting to see you.

  11. Just to clarify--I never stated that a small percentage of Dee's posts were reported. How would I know this? What I meant to say--it was a very small percentage of her posts that caused any kind of objection. Overwhelmingly, her posts were welcomed. A small number were objected to (and I say this as an outside observer, not as one of the objectors) and a compromise could have easily been reached.

I think I will leave TDK for awhile myself until this blows over. I came back to read what everyone was doing for Mother's Day and share the lovely breakfast my son made for me, and it was quite the kick in the stomach to find myself the punching bag of the moment.

  12. CW, please just take a deep breath. Go take a look at "Once Upon a Time". I think that maybe we ALL need to get in a huddle, have a group hug (which is usually accompanied by group tears), regroup and begin a new day.

  13. Well I see I should have shut up and kept my thoughts to myself! It seems by expressing my feelings concerning these changes has only added fuel to the blaze!

I never meant anyone was to be blamed where old timers or newbies! I just wanted to say that if we are not careful all those who founded this site and made it my home away from home when all things get overwhelming or I'm on my last straw of the breaking point you have all made me laugh smile and forget until the world rudely butts back in!

  16. Okay all! As the starter of this thread I have decided to let if die and fade into the darkness all threads ly when them have been ended with suffiecent time! It has helped me express myself and has shown me too that the family is still here rooting for all of you, in time it too will fade but this thread came to do some good it showed me that the family a and bonds are still here and I guess that's what I just needed to hear!

    Love to my TDK Family!

  17. WTF----why is all this happening?????? Isn't there enough misery in the world??? Why can't we all get along?? Come on people---act like the adults you are. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, let's just leave it at that. It makes me sad that some interesting people would be upset enough to "leave this site". I can't believe this is still going on after so long!

  18. yes it is still going on Sheba's Mom! But I ended this thread and would much rather let it sleep in peace then allow it to cause more hurt and harm!
