  1. Just got the news-I am one of the ones who were selected to stay. I am very upset about those that were let go. I hope HR sends counselors--it feels like a death......

  3. Whew! Great news for you! But I know that awful feeling (all too well!) of having to say goodbye to friends and co-workers. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Bitter sweet news I'm sure but in this uncertain age, at least you still have a job. {{hugs}}

  5. That's great news Sheba's Mom. It is so hard everywhere. I hope the ones that were let go will be okay.

  7. That is wonderful your job is safe...And what big heart you have for your not so lucky (former) co-workers....

  8. Thanks to all for your prayers--this is such a great community, anyone who can't see that I surely feel sorry for.

  9. I'm glad you get to keep your job, though I can only imagine how hard it will be to watch your co-workers leave.

  10. That is wonderful news, SM! Having lived through downsizing and reorganization, I do understand how you feel. Relieved but very sad and worried for those who must leave.

  11. I'm happy for you Sheba's Mom. It's hard to be the one of the ones who left, just like it's hard to see your friends and coworkers have to leave. Surely they'll bring in counselors. It's so stressful a time, but you have much to be thankful for. Again, I'm glad you got to keep your job.

  14. Glad to hear this Sheba's Mom. Good for you! I am sorry for some of your coworkers and hope that HR can help them with their job search.

  15. Sheba's Mom, I am very glad to hear of you being able to keep you job. I am sorry for the loss of your co-workers and hope they all find new employment real soon. Hang in there. Hugs and purrs.

  16. That's such a relief for you SM, I'm pleased for you. Of course you feel bad for your colleagues, but at the end of the day, you have to look out for no. 1.

  17. Sheba's Mom..I agree with debsterwiz...this is bitter-sweet. I am very happy to hear that you still have your job. What a stressful situation these cut-backs can be for both the winners and the losers in the job market. {{{hugs}}}

  18. Thanks for all the hugs--it has been a stressful day. No counselors have been made available---those who were cut only got some business cards from employment agencies to help with their job search. I am really shocked that a Big-4 accounting firm would not do more (they made the Forbes Top 100 Best Places to Work List the last 2 years).

  19. I'm relieved for you that you didn't get laid off, SM! Pretty cold of your employer to not do more for those who are leaving. It really doesn't take much effort to treat people well. We are having layoffs here at our county courthouse. It does seem pretty grim around here at times. {{{hugs}}} to you!

  20. Sheba's Mom, I'm relieved to hear that you made it through the layoffs okay. I'm sorry to hear that your employer didn't do more; appears it's a good company to work for, right up until they're not.

    As it is, I'm still job hunting since my layoff. I honestly think that sometimes, being one of the laid-off was better than remaining. (Let's see if I still feel that way in 6 months.)

  21. Great news, Sheba's Mom. Take a relaxing bath with a glass of wine!

  22. SM, *hugs to you*; Happy for you that you avoided the lay-off. So sorry for your colleagues who were not as fortunate. If passing out employment agency business cards is all this big-4 accounting firm is willing to do for employees it "has to lay off", you must know what a ruthless time this is for your industry. Be sure to continue to CYA....

  23. Good for you!! It's so hard to get (and retain) jobs today, almost anywhere. I was lucky today-found a new one. I hope your fellow employees who are leaving are as lucky.

  24. I am so happy your job is safe, though I understand how bittersweet it is when you have to say goodbye to your friends and coworkers. I hope they will find other jobs quickly.
