On my office calendar I noted, space-launch style, the number of weeks until my pastor's last service at the church. I started at T minus 7 weeks, with May 25 as lift off. Today begins that final countdown backwards from 10, by days. Not long ago, I started to be able to count the weeks remaining of his pastorate on one hand. Soon I'll be able to count the days that way.
I'm to help serve communion this Sunday, helping him one last time. I just talked to him on the phone to get some details about that service and to ask him if it would be all right for my husband to take him and his wife (and me, of course, but my husband is the host) out to dinner after Pastor's last day at the church, after Mr. Leeny's mouth has healed from his tooth extraction. Pastor said that would be fine; they'd be looking forward to it. I'll have to call him by his first name then. That seems so odd.
