  3. I'm in and out. I had to go onto Randstad and input my hours from last week, then was printing out my Lancome schedule and Wolfie stuck his paw in the printer and messed it up! He didn't get hurt. I am going to be in Tennessee on Thursday and Friday of this week--Thursday at Turkey Creek and Friday in Chattanooga.

  4. Called my mother in NJ. Some of you may recall that over a month ago I posted that a stray cat had kittens at her house and she was trying to take care of them and find homes. Well, come to find out that the kittens had some kind of illness and they all died! One got sick after the other, she took them to the vet and some were put to sleep because they were suffering, one died overnight when they were going to take him in in the morning. Poor mom is devastated and depressed, she is saying how the house is so quiet when they used to be all running around and playing. They all used to sleep in bed with her and would get up in the morning and start begging for breakfast. She did get the mother cat fixed, the mother is quite the aloof stray type but as the babies disappeared she was going around crying and looking for them.

  5. Aw that's so sad about the kittens!! That reminds me of how it was for my dad after they had to put our family dog to sleep (the last pet remaining then) and I was away at my first year of college and mom worked full-time. He didn't have his buddy there to nap with in the afternoon or follow him around the yard or anything. I felt bad, but mom wouldn't let me get him another pet ... darn it all!

  6. Thanks, Lilly. I'm feeling down tonight over the plight of so many animals and this group in particular. My mom had sent a picture of the mother cat and her babies when they were newborns and it is hanging on my fridge. Have to take it down now, it makes me sad.

  7. I'm so sorry for your mother, Catwoman. Can she get a kitten once the vet gives the all clear that her house (depending on what the little ones had) would be safe. The mother may warm up with time I imagine it is hard for some to trust after being abused or neglected. My Sophie was a terrible paper shredder she would capture a roll of paper towels and lay on her back holding it with all four paws and then proceed to kick it and claw it like crazy and it would be shredded by the time she was done--she had a lot of fun. She has calmed down but still loves to shred the newspaper--I get my moneys worth that way. LOL

  8. Oh Catwoman I am so sorry to hear this bad news. Will your mom keep the stray mama? Or maybe she needs a playfuln young adult to make noise and cuddle with her.

Was the vet able to identify what causes the babies to die or put to sleep? Would it be dangerous to bring other furbabies into the house or maybe to the current furbabies.

  9. I'm guessing the problem was leukemia. She was saying that the kittens did not have an immune system. She said the mother is apparently a carrier?

My mother has owned cats her entire life, but after her last 20+ year old cat passed, she decided no more cats. She felt that she was in poor health and did not want to get a cat that she would not be around to take care of. Then this preggers stray showed up. Mom is keeping the stray now, has had her spayed and though the cat was always standoffish, the past few nights she has slept in bed with her. The kittens all used to sleep up there.

  10. Several of my cats are due for leukemia shot boosters, I'm going to make sure that they are all covered. If anything like this wiped out my group I would need to be committed!

  11. Well maybe the two mamas will bond closely and share some quiet comfortable moments together. In time the mama kitty may even become very affectionate with more time with your mother. Kindness, gentleness, and food always help.

  12. The cat might get more loving with time and attention. I have seen that happen--she won't be busy with her babies so will turn her attention to your mom, I hope. I know that my parents had 3 dogs and 5 cats and now have 2 dogs and 2 cats and haven't taken on any more because they are in their 80's There are 5 of us kids and we will take care of their pets if they can't but appreciate that they aren't adding now. If they get down to none though I will encourage them to have one and promise to care for it if they can't.

  25. For all nightshifters going to bed, have a great sleep and very good day tomorrow! Catwoman, so sorry to hear that your mother's little adopted family got sick, maybe now the mama cat will become a bit friendlier since she is solo in the house. Sitting at work, actually working in fits & starts but at least its something to do.
