Hi Owlwatcher! I have the "Cat of the Day" icon on my desktop and look at it every single day. When I saw Kato the cat this morning, I thought that he looked like one very happy cat, too. Such a beautiful cat, so sad he's blind, but it sounds like he has a very good life.

Being blind doesn't necessarily keep a kitty from living a full happy life. Cats seem to adapt to what some would consider adverse circumstances far better than some might expect.
I used to have a blind Siamese kitty named Ruso. We didn't find out he was blind until one day he was attacked by the neighbor's pit bull and another dog. The dogs chased him under the house which was their second mistake - their first mistake being attacking this cat in the first place. He was ferocious! I heard the commotions and, by the time I got outside (which only took a couple of minutes), the dogs were running for their lives!
Ruso was under the house yowling at the top of his lungs. My boyfriend (now roommate) went under the house and got Ruso out but was nearly shredded in the process. Ruso had a badly broken back leg and spent some time in the hospital -- which is how we found out he was blind. The veterinarian told us that Ruso was blind and everybody at that animal hospital was amazed at how well he was able to find his way around even in a room he had never been in before.
Ruso remained an indoor/outdoor cat all his life and was as much of a trouble maker as any of the other cats. He was also quite a fighter. One of my neighbors told me that Ruso had jumped over the fence and attacked their cat. I didn't believe it because he was blind but one day I saw him go after the other cat. Watching Ruso climb a fence was quite a sight. He would carefully feel his way up the fence then down the other side. His lack of eyesight never got in the way of him doing anything he wanted to.
One day my roommate found out exactly how bad of an idea it was to mess with Ruso. He snuck up behind the sleeping cat and reached out to startle poor Ruso. Before my roommate could withdraw his hand, Ruso had wrapped himself around my roommate's hand with all claws and teeth sunk in!!
Ruso was also a sweet lovable kitty and I have many pictures of him cuddled up to one of my other cats. Sadly, he passed away about 6 years ago but he proved that being blind does not have to get in the way of living life to its fullest.

OW, loved that you shared Ruso's life story, thanks! Kato looks a bit like my Max, love how satisfied he looks sitting in the warm sun >^..^<

What a great story, and a great story by OW too.
Thirty lashes to tigerpaw for the Loverboy reference.

Had to make Kato's Cat of the Day into one of my favorites! He looks so contented and extremely relaxed, how could I not...
