  1. I'm trapped like a rat in the Austin Heart Hospital ER and I'm bored stiff. I've been here half naked and wired for sound for almost three hours.

Nobody panic, I'm fine, just an episode of tachycardia I couldn't get under control myself. My heart rate has been over 100 for nearly two weeks and that is so exhausting. Your heart literally gobbles up all your energy.

So I'm bored, trapped, needled, naked, cold, hungry and my only contact with the outside world is my computer...no cell phone.

    EEEEEKKKKK!!!!!

  2. Hi there
Sorry you're so bored. I've always had a high heart rate too, perhaps that's why I'm often so tired. I never equated the two. Hope you can escape soon.

  3. I didn't know this until it got to be a real annoyance....but if your heart rate stays up all the time....for example, when you are alseep...it zaps your energy just as if you'd exercised in your sleep. Sadly, it doesn't produce the same weight loss!!! In fact, it contributes to obesity because it makes people too tired to move around much in the daytime.

Okay, enough about that. What's happening in Aston today?

  4. Hi Lisaeylau! At least you've got internet access, in British hospitals you're lucky to get public information films and 10 year old magazines!!!

It's been a soggy old day here in England, brighter weather is promised, but they've been wrong before...

  5. It's 21.08 and I am watching CSI whilst playing on TDK instead of doing the marking I ought to do. I have 30 exams to mark for Year 9, and 16 to mark for Year 8. I also have to work out an oral exam schedule for tomorrow, but I'm tired and can't really be bothered.
It's been drizzly, cool and miserable all day but humid and heavy at the same time. Yuk I hate the British weather sometimes.

  6. *A black cat sticks her head through the wormhole ... she too feels trapped because her mommy won't let her out of the house. Slowly, Shiva makes her way into the room, hoping that her swollen face doesn't alarm anybody. After looking around the room for a couple of minutes, she makes her way over to Lisa and curls up next to the computer to keep Lisa company.*

  7. Oh, Shiva! I'm so glad to see you! Let's snuggle and keep each other warm! We can look at kitty pictures on Catster, and check up on all our friends. I'm glad you just now got here. I just got back from a funny round machine where they looked for cats inside me! Isn't that silly? I told them all my kitty friends were on the *outside* but they seemed to think I might have eaten one.

(Shiva sweetly looks up and lets me see her boo-boo...I do think it's looking better...)

Well, all the nurses are boys, and they're kinda cute and *young*!!! So we can look at nurses, and play on TDK, troll for friends on Catster. And thank heavens I grabbed my laptop on my way out the door. This hospital is close to UT so I knew I'd be able to jump on a wireless network. No, MCW, American hospitals provide the same entertainment as British ones...I only have a computer because I brought my own. And I only have a kitty because OW sent Shiva. She's hiding under my blanket.

  8. Oh, almost forgot...I LOVE British weather. It can never be cold, rainy and dreary enough for me!!!

Posted 3 years ago by lisaeylau #

  9. Gosh, are you still there? You poor thing. Glad you've got Shiva for company (and cute male nurses are a plus too!!)

Button has just out performed herself : after gulping down her 1/3 tin of Sheba (their evening treat when they come in), and ploughing through some biscuits, AND pigging out on Bones' leftovers, she's chucked up in impressive quantities. As a finale, she then used Bones' tray (which ison our sitting room - she has a perfectly good one of her own in the kitchen) - and produced the most ENORMOUS poo!!!!! Cats!!! Doncha just love 'em?!!

Posted 3 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  10. Yes, I'm still here! God bless the sweet nurse who just brought us two warmed blankets. Shiva was starting to look dubious about this mission of mercy! We were freezing our respective tails off!

MCW I remember making fun of my married with children friends for talking about diaper contents over dinner. And I swore if I ever had kids, I'd never do it. And now I'm sooooo guilty! Who used whose litterbox....CJ's dainty ones, Bob's *monster* ones....I always knew when he'd eaten a frog...a subject of endless fascination.

I had an old boyfriend who once said he was proud of "everything his body did." It was truly hilarious, spoken in all sincerity, a confession of male reality or shortcoming, however you want to frame it. And I think boy cats are exactly the same!!

  11. LOL...except Button's a girl!! AND she's just used her own tray for another vile offering, think she may have eaten something that disagreed with her. Daft animal. So that, I hope, is her hatrick for the evening (I'm going to bed soon anyway, so anymore performances will have to wait til morning!).

Hope you're not stuck there too much longer, think you'd be better off at home!

  12. Amen, sister! Sleep well! That cold, rainy British weather is the very best for sleeping!

If they ever let me out of here, I plan to snooze for *hours*!!!

Posted 3 years ago by lisaeylau #

  13. 'Night Lisa. Give it another hour, then stage a breakout - Shiva will cover you!!

Posted 3 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  14. *a voice calls through the wormhole*
"Shiva, you need to come home for your medicine. Don't worry, you can go back once you have taken your medicine and had a couple of bites of food."

*Yellow eyes glare at the wormhole for a moment as if wondering how to get out of this predicament.*

"Shiva, get that furry little tushie of yours over here.. don't make me come after you!"

*The kitty gives Lisa an affectionate headbonk then reluctantly heads for the wormhole... as she leaves, she looks back and gives a meow as if to say, 'I'll be back in a little while'*

  15. Hi Lisa,
Still there? Is your blanket still warm? How is Shiva?
If you and she would like more company Cinnie Minnie could crawl
through. I have to warn you though, for the last two days she has
become Miss Chatty Kitty, so the nurses might find her! LOL.
We're muggy her in South Carolina, but the last few
evenings a nice breeze comes up about sundown.

  16. *Shiva peeks her head through the wormhole to see if Lisa is still at the hospital. Her face still a little damp from the mess she made while fighting to keep from taking the yucky medicine*

    Posted 3 years ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  17. Hi Lisa, sorry to hear that you're in the hospital. :(
I have to take a beta blocker to keep my heart rate down to a manageable rate.Hopefully they'll do their tests and you'll be able to go home soon.
    Here's a happy cat to keep you company;

  18. Lisa,
How awful you are stuck in a hospital. I have been there before and it sucks. I wish I could at least keep you company. :) I see you have Shiva and other kitties on loan which is wonderful. Your kitties are still at Shaddo's party and can stay the night with everyone else.
I do hope you feel better and that you are out of there fast. Just remember we are here if you need to talk to someone..
(hugs) feel better. Let us know when you get paroled :)

  19. Lisa...what a predicament you've gotten into. Gee I don't know what I'd do if I had to have cute male nurses bringing me warm blankets! LOL! I guess I'd just have to be brave. All kidding aside, I sure hope everything gets taken care of and you're safe at home and well..very soon..{{{Hugs}}} OR..maybe by this time you've made it home already...I sure hope so.

Posted 3 years ago by Karenopa #

  20. Lisa, I agree with Karenopa - be brave! And I hope you don't have to hang around there for too long. My mother and a friend's husband have both gone through the same as you lately.

And here in NZ we're having cold, miserable Wintry weather today also.

  21. Sweetheart, Rotley and Ruggles are at Shaddo's party right now, but they have asked if they could come over after the party and stay with you for a couple of hours until you're asleep.

For your dinner, I made some delicious pecan chicken salad, and each dollop is wrapped in a beautiful little buttered biscuit. The lads tasted a bit themselves and sincerely approved of the flavor. I've also made a thermos of decaf vanilla French roast so that you can get some sleep.

The basket is packed, and when the lads return from the party, through the starry wormhole they will go! Oh, and they are also bringing some fresh catnip and some chocolate mint from my garden.

Get to feeling better, honey. I'm so sorry you're going through this, with everything else you've had on your plate! Being in the hospital can be miserable, so I hope the kits, ALL of them, will cheer you up.

We're all watching out for you.

  22. Boy can I relate! 2 weeks ago I spent 3 days in the hospital-got to the ER at 2pm and didn't get to a regular room until 11:30 pm that night! Talk about bored and frustrated! Thank goodness my hubby was there so we could at least keep each other company. Watched mannnnny episodes of Animal Planet while waiting. Don't you have TV in your ER? Would have gone crazy without that. (But aren't those warmed blankies great! Mmmmmm-right out of the warming oven...ahhhh!) Hope you are out soon...sending good vibes your way....

  24. I'm home! I'm home! I'm really, really home!!!

Sorry I couldn't keep you all better posted--my battery finally went dead and they wouldn't let me go to the car for my power cord. So I hope I didn't keep Shiva too late.

Brought Rotley and Ruggles home with me, can they stay for the night? CJ and Misty are really upset. I left them in a blazing hurry this morning. But not before I put out extra kibble and water, in case they had to wait 24 hours for their grandmother to get here from Eylau, which is a full 7 hour drive.

I have to say the ER at Austin Heart is stellar as ERs go. Everyone is so nice, sweet, patient with fraidy cats, the let me use my cell and computer both. It just took forever to get all the overkill testing done.

Okay, with my family history and symptoms, it probably wasn't overkill in their eyes. This really was the worst I'd ever been. But there really isn't anything wrong except my heart is racing and my usual beta-blocker isn't enough....and the smoke coming up from Mexico triggred a little asthma. Sounds bad, but that's really good news. They said people all over south Texas are having asthma attacks!

So, I'm tired but fine. The girls are a little traumatized, but Misty is in her comfort spot--my armpit--and CJ is talking quietly to R&R under the covers. Emma, your baskets are the bomb, baby! I gotta get some fresh catnip going in a flowerpot. The girls *love* it!!!!

Thank's everybody!! You saved my sanity today!!!

  25. Glad you are home with your kits and Rotley and Ruggles, Lisa! Get some rest. :)

Posted 3 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  26. I'm happy for you that you're home now and feel better. Smoke gives me a fit too. Try to destress a little if you can. ;)

Posted 3 years ago by Buttercup #

  27. Shiva came back through the wormhole asking, "Can I go stay the night with Lisa, Ruggles, Rotley, CJ and Misty? Please? Mamma Kitty and Trinity both got to go to the party so can I go stay the night please?" I told her she would have to ask you, Lisa, cause I didn't know if you would mind having another guest for the night.

    Posted 3 years ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  28. R&R came in a few minutes ago, yawning and stretching, and reeking of cream! They had a wonderful time at Shaddo's party, and staying the night with your kits was so much fun for them.

Glad you like the baskets! and I am so glad you're feeling better. Asthma is scary and combining that with smoke -- not fun.

You are always in my prayers, Lisa.

    Much love,
    Emma

  29. Shiva is *always* welcome here!!!! She need not ask me, only let you know where she's going. We'll just expect her any time.

Posted 3 years ago by lisaeylau #

  30. It was better that she stayed home last night though ... that nasty ol' abscess opened up and made a big mess. Shiva is still recovering and getting cleaned up today but she might visit you tonight if she feels up to it.
