so, today i found 3 weekish old kitten outside, in the rain, and it was soaked. so, i dried it off with my sweatshirt (hey, if it's all you can find....) and tried to warm it up. it is right now in between hot water bottles, and one of my cats, hadassah is licking it. it also got warm milk. is there anything else that i can do?

Cows milk is not good for kitties. They really need KMR, all pet stores carry it. This is what the kitten will need, about one tablespoon approx 5 times a day until about 4 to 4 1/2 weeks when you can start to introduce wet kitten food mixed with KMR. Thank you for rescuing.

i did use KMR, though since it didn't drink it had it from a syringe (very slowly). i always have one of the KMR emergency kits (bene-bac, milk replacer, bottle) around. so it got that.

Do you have a lot of feral cats where you live, FF50? Is anyone trying to reduce the number of kittens being born by trapping the ferals, getting them spayed or neutered and then returning them to their colony? Living wild is very dangerous for cats. Are there any other kittens where you found this one? Poor little thing! It is good of you to try to help this kitten. :)

i have been working on TNR here, though most of the cats are friendly enough to come and eat. so it makes them much easier to catch! i looked everywhere but didn't find anymore kittens.

That is good news, FF50. He or she is responding to the care you (and Hadassah) are providing.

Furryfriends50, please be sure that you're helping stimulate peeing & pooping each time you feed the kitten. At this age, they cannot do that themselves. Best way I've found is a warm, damp washcloth used to gently stimluate the genitals.

There's also much more info at feralcat dot com, that's useful in raising orphaned or abandoned kittens.
You're on the right track, so far. Frequent feeding & elimination stimulation would be good; about every 3-4 hours would be ideal, though sleeping through the night is fine. Also, keeping the kitten warm & safe from drafts is good. (Make sure the kitten has a cooler section to crawl to, though, if he or she gets too warm next to the water bottle.)
I'm glad to see Hadassah helping out, though it's not always wise to allow a new cat or kitten immediate contact with resident cats. You don't know what kinds of diseases the kitten could be carrying.
At the very least, scheduling a vet visit for baseline weight, temp & advice would be money well spent, though it sounds like you've done this sort of thing before.
