  1. I've been thinking of LK too, I heard that the levee in Des Moines had a breach last night and they were making people evacuate at @ 2:00 this morning. Very scary.

  2. Prayers to LadyKat...She can't be faring well in lieu of the levy breach. Prayers and White Light to you LadyKat. I hope she's able to get to a computer and keep us posted. I'm feeling very nervous about this.

  6. LK - what Tigerlilly said.

The scout tragedy hit hard. Got me to thinking about my Dad, the eternal Boy Scout Master. He loved scouting so much that his grave marker has the boy scout insignia on it.

The midwest flooding sure is scary. Be safe out there, folks.

  7. Just got an email from my brother-in-law in Coralville (just outside Iowa City). They are OK but have friends who have lost their homes. My sister in law works at the University of Iowa which is flooded so they can't get to their jobs. Fortunately their house is on a rise above the town.

  9. I thought about her all weekend. Everytime they'd show the flooding on TV, I'd wonder if she was ok. I hope she lets us know something soon. ((hugs))

  12. Well, I'm not LK, but I do live and work in Des Moines, so as an update, the water in the Des Moines area is going down. Only one levee caved under the pressure covering many homes and a high school. The people in Iowa City are slowly getting to see the damage that the flooding has done to their homes. I'm hoping that this means that the worst is over, but you never can tell. I was in the pet supply store earlier and they said there has been a rush of people that have found and are fostering baby animals that were lost or separated from their mothers due to the situation, so it seems like everyone is doing what they can to help in their own ways.

  14. Thank you for the update. I noticed that LadyKat posted in the Cafe thread this morning and said that she would be hit and miss today, so I hope that means she is all right and just can't get to the computer much. So sad to see the devastation. The loss in crops alone must be staggering.

  15. Prayers for all of those who lost homes, pets, crops and livelihoods.

  17. All the news coverage is horribly reminiscent of the appaling weather we had here last summer, and the terrible flooding that came with that, many times over for some families. I can't imagine the devastation of losing your home and possessions like that, let alone your pets. Thinking of all of you affected by this.

  18. I called the Red Cross because I volunteer and they said that SEVEN states have been declared disaster areas. Unbelievable! And there haven't even been any storms yet.

  19. I'm sorry I wasn't able to answer earlier. I didn't mean to worry anyone. I am doing fine. I did have a message on my telephone machine that asked for voluntary evacuation on Friday night. However, my home is straight up a hill from the river, so I was feeling fairly safe where I was.
Thanks, RoseV, for giving an update. I walked down the street a couple of blocks on Friday to the Pizza Hut (to get supper as well as see the water over the road) and took a couple of photos. This morning that road was finally open and I could get to work as usual. Unfortunately, a huge new parking lot for county offices that were to move in last week is still very much flooded.
The worst is the huge cleanup from all the homes and debris left in the fields.
We are working in the file room, getting files ready for storage and putting new ones on the shelves, so I don't have much chance at the computer this week.
Again, sorry I didn't give everyone an update earlier.
Thanks for all your prayers for the people who are directly affected by the flood all through Iowa.
