Lucy Belle and momma checking in!

(15 posts)
  1. Hiya everyone,

Checking in to say meow-hoo and also a little update on her. She finished her meds for FLUTD and we are monitoring her condition for the coming week to make sure everything will be fine.

Maybe it's because of the recent heat wave but Lucy Belle has been breathing really fast. I timed her breathing and it's almost 78 bpm. Also, she seems to pant a lot even after a very short play time. I am worried about this so I will most likely check with the vet again.

Other than that, she is doing fine. And she got chased by a meanie bug and she has now almost abandoned all effort of catching and eating them. The meanie bug is mommy is disguise. :D

  2. Hi tuttibella, thanks for the update. The breathing is probably just the heat, but you're just as well to get it checked out. There was a thread recently called Summertime which had some hints and tips for helping cats keep cool in the hot weather.

  4. Hi Tuttibella,I put ice in my kitties water to get them to drink sometimes.I play with it first in front of them and when they go over to investigate it they usually drink. I've had a few cats that got to where they wouldn't drink water without ice in it and would hang around the fridge to beg for ice. They trained me well. :)

  5. Glad to hear Lucy Belle is doing well. Hope the panting is because she's just hot - my boys do it, too.

Marsha, I tried putting ice cubes in Bobby's water bowl once and he was scared of it - after sniffing it, he ran off. I tried a few times, and he refused to drink it. Dummy boy!

  7. I think one of the suggestions on that Summertime thread was to wrap an ice-pack in a towel and put it under where your kitty sleeps or rests, tuttibella. I'll see if I can find that thread and bump it up.

  8. Thanks for bumping the thread for me Tigger.

I just need to ask you cat mommies and daddies if the heat really does cause fast breathing. She pants sometimes after she plays, so I know that is normal. But even when at rest, she breathe really fast and you can see her abs go up and down. And she likes to takes a deep breath every now and then. Just need some reassurance that it's how it is when cats feel hot.

  10. Glad to hear little Lucy Belle is doing OK. I know that cats don't sweat all over their bodies like we do; they mainly sweat through their mouths and the pads on their feet. Maybe that is why she is panting. My Jerrie would pant like crazy if he got upset (mainly when he was in a cat carrier, going to the vet). It wouldn't hurt to ask the vet but I'll bet she is just hot.

  12. kitties also have "sensors" in the roof of their mouths to detect "things" in their environment...

  13. I'm glad Lucy Belle is back to her old self. The two of you deserve some stress-free quality time! Although her vet is cute, if you don't have to see him so often I bet you won't be sorry!!
