does anyone know about TLI levels?

(3 posts)
  1. Taco had his TLI levels retested. When they origionally diagnosed him with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, his number was 8. Now he was retested to make sure he still needed the medication. His number was down to 7.5, which is lower and worse than before. They said we should increase his medication because of this.

Does anyone know a lot about tli levels in cats? What exactly does 7.5 mean? Is this extremely low, or just normal low?

I called my vet back to ask these questions but she hasn't called back yet and I'm kind of anxious to understand it better.

  2. Hi Ginirosaru,I looked it up in the Merck Veterinary Manual.
It basically says that cats with pancreatic damage who need these enzymes, the level at which this deficiency is diagnosed when the serum trypsin-like immunoreactivity (TLI) is less than 8. His is not too much under 8 but it did go down a little. Did the vet say why or how Taco has this? Anyway it seems like he'll have to take that medicine or he will not absorb much nutrition from his food. I hope that helps.

  3. Thanks buttercup! That is helpful. The vet said it's what confirmed the diagnosis of his exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (this is the second time they tested to see how the levels are doing). They didn't say if it going down is really bad or not though, or if it should continue to go down, or really nothing that helpful at all! They said to increase his medication and told me his numbers but that's about it.
