Does anyone here has any kitties that has cardiomyopathy? If so, what were the symptoms before positive diagnosis? Also, what test were done for a positive diagnosis? Thanks.

Is that what they've diagnosed Lucy Belle with? What is the treatment? Sending hugs and white light your way, tuttibella, for both of you.

No, not yet. I just don't want to jump into conclusion too sson. The vet thinks she's fine as long as she is eating, playing and generally active. But I just have this feeling that something is just not right. She has been breathing really fast, rapidly and you can see her whole abdomen inhaling and exhaling. I've read about cardiomyopathy and there are too similar. I know, maybe I am worrying too much, that's what I need to know if anyone here has any experience. Or maybe, a misdiagnoses or something along the lines.
Besides rapid breathing, what else are there?

Tuttibella,my cat got very lethargic, had bluish gums(cyanosis) and couldn't do anything. I had to take him to a vet immediately. It was very obvious,it was not subtle. He also had a heart murmur. Try not to worry too much Tuttibella,I know that's hard but I think your vet would have figured this out by now if that was what's wrong.
Continued prayers and white light for both of you. -
Thanks! I'll try not to worry.

Has Asthma been ruled out?

Tuttibella, did you ever find out why your vet didn't have a record of Lucy Belle on file the day we called to ask about her?
That was really, really stressful for all the TDK people who have so much emotion invested in your and your baby.
Poor Lucy Belle has had so many scary medical problems in such a short amount of time. I truly can empathize. My little CJ was sick her whole first 12 months of life. You have my prayers and best wishes.
I'm a licensed psychotherapist, and it distresses me so much to detect your anxiety. Try not to "bleed before you're cut." Lucy Belle--all critters for that matter--have good days/bad days just like us. Your baby looks beautiful and happy and healthy on Catster. Have faith in her strength to heal herself and your ability to be a great cat mommy.
Always here for you....Lisa, Misty and CJ

Thanks lisa, I am bringing Lucy Belle back to the vet tomorrow. And I will ask them why her file was not available when you called.
And here is a video showing her breathing pattern which I just captured a while ago.
Please take a look and let me know if I should be VERY WORRIED. I am basically panicking because it doesn't look good at all.

tuttibella, I bumped up a link to feline asthma that shows a cat breathing hard, that miu started. Check it out.

Oh Tuttibella I'm so glad you posted this, she's fine Mommy. She is comfortable, active and aware. That is how all kitties breathe.
My cat that had cardiomyopathy was just sitting there concentrated on the task of breathing,he wasn't aware of anything except his need for oxygen. He was sitting in a leaned over position using his accessory muscles(his abdomen, his stomach muscles) to try to exchange air.You could see him breathe from a room away.
I'm so glad LucyBelle has such a concerned and aware Mommy, you are so attached to her because you have gotten her through so much but she looks FINE.
Please try to relax and destress Tuttibella and enjoy her. She will let you know if something is wrong.
Big hugs sweetie. -
paulajeanne : Thanks for the vids. Luckily, Lucy Belle is not coughing and so I doubt it is Feline Athsma. But it is good to know how it sounds like so I can be on the look out.
Buttercup : Thanks! I am really attached aren't I? It's like I nit pick every little thing and every little action she does. I am just so full of worries because she's my first cat, I hand raised her and gosh, I'll be in pieces if anything happens to her. Also, she already have so much to dealt with already that I don't want her to go through any more bad things.
Still, I am keeping the appointment tomorrow, just to be safe.

Wow, Lucy Belle is getting big! I think her breathing looks fine, I've seen Nora breathe like that many times (especially when she is laying right in the sun). For peace of mind have the vet check her out.
(Wait a minute... are you the one who goes to Naked Vet? No wonder you want to keep setting up appointments... LOL)

If you listen very closely to the video of Lucy Belle, you can hear her singing softly (a la West Side Story):
"I'm so pretty,
Oh so pretty,
Oh so pretty and witty and bad,
That my mommy
May go balmy
Just for thinking I'm sick or I'm sad,"Lalalalala!"
Perhaps she is sick, sweetheart, but Lucy Belle looks like a big, healthy, happy kitten who is lying in the sunlight and counting all of her many blessings.
And you are the biggest blessing of all in Lucy Belle's lovely world!
-
Thanks guys ...
Yeap, she is getting big. I used to be able to carry her in her carrier without much effort. Not anymore though. She's about 8lbs now. A pound a month. How much bigger will she get anyway?
Sheesh HHGM! Yeah, I am heading to the naked vet, wanna tag along?

LOL, Emma! Maybe Lucy Belle can take it to Broadway?
Tuttibella, I don't blame you for worrying. I do the same thing with Willow and Windi and I have had cats all of my life. The best thing to ease your fear is to go ahead and let the doctor take a look at her. We had a kitty with feline asthma and he had the most awful cough. I'm going to guess that she doesn't have that.

Emma, your lyrics cracked me up - very clever.
Tuttibella, I watched the video while two of my furbabies are lying on the desk. They just finished romping around together in complete 'bonkers' mood, and they are breathing just like Lucy Belle.
I'm pretty sure the vet is going to say she's fine, but you're a good caretaker to check out things that worry you.
All new mommies worry too much - that's one of the things that makes them good mommies.

tuttibella, has the spay trauma cleared up ok? No more bleeding, or infection?
Posted 3 years ago by paulajeanne #

Spay trauma should be all fine now. She is using her litter box like a very good girl. Keeping my fingers crossed. That was by far one of the worst moment in my life ... really, and thank you all so much for being there. And again, I know I made everyone here so worried, couldn't say sorry enough. And {{HUGS}} to all!

So glad to hear that. And as others have said, I've also observed Molly doing heavy breathing at times, sometimes in the middle of a nap! Which sets me wondering what cats dream about!

LOL, Emma! You are a hoot!!
Tuttibella, enjoy your little girl. She sounds like she is in fine shape. I'm glad you are so attentive to her physical condition. You saved her life after her spay got messed up!!

Hi Tuttibella, I was out of town for a few days and we had a 10 hour power outage at my home, so my computer is "acting out"> I can only check in intermittenttly on my husband's work computer.....You are just the best Mama Tuttibella. It was so sweet to see Lucy Belle in the video, what a gret idea so that we all could see...she looks fine to me, but being reassured is priceless, so definitely check with the vet. It makes perfect sense once you have been scared so much, to be an extra sensitive Mama. Lucy Belle is one lucky little princess to have you!

Thanks Tigerlilly!
I guess everyone here is right about Lucy Belle. She really is fine. :)

Our cat suddenly hid himself such that we could not easily find him, at @ age 6.5 yrs. When we did find him, it was easily apparent that he needed emergency care. He was quickly diagnosed with a failing liver (I attribute this to a flea collar). In the course of diagnostics, his enlarged heart (cardiomyopathy) was revealed in an x-ray. Fabulous vet brought him back from brink of death, and his quality of life returned quite to normal. We medicated him to regulate heart rate and strength, and to aid fluid elimination; but only as a preventive measure, not because he was suffering any symptoms of heart abnormalities at that time. The most likely developments resulting from the enlargement, *if at all,* would be development of blood clots or congestive heart failure (fluid buildup resulting in difficulty breathing), and we were educated to watch for the development of either of these. We,and our cat were so fortunate in that he never suffered a moment of illness, or diminished quality of life after the initial liver failure. Rather, he lived entirely happily and normally, for another 2.5 years; until, on a Christmas Eve, he threw a clot, suffered a stroke, and crossed the bridge, all within 10 minutes time.
We were so grateful to have been well prepared for this; to have had the tools and medication to have him with us, happily, despite the abnormality; and, especially, because he was permitted to cross the bridge quickly, and without the need for our assistance.
Throughout this time, we were always reminded, by our vet, that the enlarged heart was in no way a guarantee of death, or even illness. It just was what it was, unless and until symptoms developed.Posted 3 years ago by tootsabelle #

I'm so sorry for your loss, tootsabelle, but you cared so well for your kitty. Thank you for sharing the information.
Welcome to TDK and I hope that we will see more of you!
