Made all the arrangements today to visit the Punta Gorda area from July 9-14. I know it's gonna be hot which is just fine by me--I love the heat and it has been a crappy spring here. We are trying to decide where to retire to, at least for the winters, that is the purpose of the trip. We hope to visit the Lake county area too. After this trip, I will probably make the same sort of a trip to the Myrtle Beach area in September. Wish I had time to look up some of the Florida TDKer's, but I think it's gonna be a busy 5 days. I'm excited!

Sounds like fun, Shelley. I've never been to Florida, but I've been to Hilton Head Island, SC and it was absolutely gorgeous!!!

Shelley...Please do not think of this as a negative. Just be aware that this time of year is very "quiet" in Florida. Those that have spent the winter months here have gone, and those that can't take the heat have gone. That being said, it will seem like a ghost town in many of the areas you may be looking to settle, or spend winters. Obviously, any coastal towns, Atlantic or Gulf, will be more populated with the beach crowds during the summer months. I have heard Punta Gorda is very nice...... Also lived in several South Fl areas, and now North Fl. If I were to move today, and stay in Fl.... it would be very difficult to pick a "favorite" place to live....Tho would pick somewhere within 20-30 miles of the coastline. Got to have that sea breeze!!

No worries 12 PAWZ--I am a small town girl and quiet is good with me :). Thanks though for the heads up! We are looking to be near or on the water, whether it be ocean or inland lake--my honey has always lived near the water and loves it. I know 5 days isn't nearly long enough to check out all the areas but that's o.k., we can always come visit again!

Shelly, you are about 6 years behind us. We came to Fla on vacation in 2002, saw some inland areas, visited my cousin in Pt. Orange and he left us on our own and presto! We found our way to a beautiful area, Ormond Beach FL., paradise right here on earth (to us anyways). We haven't looked back We are New York State (Rochester area) transplants and love it here, espeically the lifestyle. Oooops, didn't mean to go on and on .....

I would never so that to you BCAM--LOL--I have a feeling that we will have a lot of visitors and hoopla around us once we move, not the least of which will be my 6 grandkids (oh yeah and their parents!) We could turn a quiet neighborhood into a carnival in about 2 minutes! HM, I remember you saying Ormand Beach was a nice area. I will have to put that on my list of places to visit.

Shelley what a wonderful change this will be from Mi.! I don't blame you at all for wanting to migrate to a warmer climate. That's how my folks ended up in Ca. so many years ago. How exciting to take the trip exploring your possibilities!! Hope you find the perfect place to hang your hats! :)
