I brought Gabriel home last night. He was very quiet in the carrier, and that was unusual for me. As soon as I brought him inside, the three-way hisses and growls began, and Buttercup hid under a bench. I took Gabriel into the bedroom and set up his food, water, litter, and small kitty condo there. He did a bit of exploring while Buttercup hid under the bed, growling occasionally. He mostly stayed behind his kitty condo. Eventually, I went into the living room to fix Mr. Leeny's medication for him. Both Buttercup and Gabriel came out of the bedroom; Buttercup headed for the bench and Gabriel explored the bathroom. After I was finished, I took Gabriel back into the bedroom, and he did some more exploring. When I fell asleep, he was sitting on the bed.
This morning, Gabriel jumped up on the bed and I held out my hand to him. He came toward me and let me pet his head three or four times. I know he ate during the night, because there was food floating in his water this morning. After I got up, though, he disappeared. Our bedroom is about twice the size of the room he was in before and it has a lot of places for a kitty to hide. Mr. Leeny has been checking on him, though, and the last time he looked in, Gabriel tried to leave the room. Mr. Leeny's going to wait for me to get home to deal with that, though.
Tonight I plan to get out the big carrier I used for Buttercup until I discovered that one of the clips that hold it together is missing; not a good thing for transporting an 18-pound cat. I'm going to put Gabriel in it with some of his toys and scatter nip inside it. I'm also going to perfume the living room with nip. Then I'm going to bring Gabriel in the carrier into the living room and put him in some neutral spot. I'm sure there'll be hissing and growling, but I'll be able to pet the girls and reassure them.
