What breed FURgie the kitten?

(28 posts)
  1. Hi,

My wife and I adopted a little kitten about 1 month ago that I can only describe as a peach and gray colored long (maybe mid) hair kitten. She is now about 12 weeks old. We can really use some help to figure out what breed or mix of breeds FURgie is, and she'd also like to know who she is. Any ideas? Her photo can be found here:

Thanks in advance for your help.

  2. Furgie is adorable, and you're a great photog. Striking color combo of peach and blue. Could literally be any mix of breeds, maybe some other posters will have a better idea than I do. Looks like you're having a great time with her and she probably thinks she's found heaven. Enjoy your new baby and welcome to TDK!

  4. wow, what an odd combination. I have never seen a kitty with those colors like that before. I hav eno idea, other than she is just one of the typical cats you see, who got some cool genes. You could try looking at pics of different breeds of cats to figure it out

  8. No clue about breed, but she looks like a little sweetheart. You are very good with your camera! Of course, you have a very photogenic subject!! :D

  9. Furgie appears to be a dilute tortoiseshell in coloration, with medium-length hair (not shorthaired, not longhaired, but somewhere in between). But as far as breed is concerned, that mix could have come from just about anywhere! That's part of the delight of mixed-breed kitties - they're lovely in very individual ways.

And Furgie is gorgeous, no doubt about it!

  11. I love the reveres tortie pattern cream with blue instead of the usual blue with cream! Furgie could be just a semi longer haired domestic tabby, she also may have some Angora in her looking at her face structure and ears!

What ever she is she's beautiful!

  12. Friends had a kitten of similar colouring years ago and were told is was called cameo coloured so they named him Kammi.
Furgie(human) your wee Fergie(cat) is gorgeous and the photos are wonderful.

  13. She's adorable! My guess is Muttcat(tm), and so much the better for you! Torties have an attitude, I've got a lovely dilute tortie, more gray than orange.

  15. This may sound silly, but for domestics I usually make up my own breed names. For FURgie, I would suggest (drumroll, please):

    Silverdusted Marmalade with Half Domino.

She is beautiful, and you are a wonderful photographer!

  16. Moonshadow, that's funny! I have a feral cat outside named Cammy, but she's named that because she's a longhaired tortie (mostly red with some black bits). When she crouches in dried leaves or grass, and stops moving, she completely vanishes - absolutely perfect camoflage. (Camoflage = Cammy)

  19. So, she let me see if I get this right...dilute Tortie-Cameo-Muttcat-Silverdusted-Marmalade-Half Domino-FURgie cat! Sounds good to me. I'll be sure to let FURgie know that you guys think she is beautiful :-)

Wow, this is a great froum. You guys are all awesome and thanks so much for you prompt replies, help, great comments, and input. From what I read, we figured she has some tortie in her.

She has changed her colors a bit over the last month. Her peach color has slowly become a glowing lighter cream and her grays are becoming more prominent. She is a very good kitty and loves my wife...I think she thinks she is her mom!

Thanks for the compliments on the photography. I've been trying to learn how to take better photos and she is a great subject and very photogenic. I update her blog every other day with new photos, so please stop by regularly if you are interested. Also I am no expert, but I do have some pet photography advice that I have gained from a lot of experimentation that I will post on her blog but I can also give any advice if you need.

Thanks again for the help and comments.

  22. She is very unusual--I've never seen a tortie where the base color is red/cream. Many happy & healthy years with her!

  24. Wonderful kitty! I agree with a dilute tortie. Such a sweet face and lovely photographs. Welcome! I am an everyday reader and a sometimes poster. These are the best people. I adore my TDK family, they have helped me through grief when I have lost a foster and cheered at my successes. As I said the best!

2bpurring - yep, she is our only kitty. We would have liked to get 2 but there were a few circumstances preventing it.
