  1. Oh dear, now it is my turn to ask for the famous TDK prayers and white light. My mom was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon after experiencing some sort of episode which left her confused and disoriented. She seemed fine - doing all her normal daily routine - and had been to the hair salon at her retirement complex. But something seems to have happened on her way back to her apartment. She was found a short distance from the salon and apparently did not know the day or date. She had not been dizzy, did not have a headache, and had not fainted or anything. When my cousin went to visit her in the hospital, she seemed fine but could not remember anything that had happened yesterday up until the point where she was in the hospital. Additionally, she can't see out of one eye. They have done various checks for other symptoms of a stroke and done a CT scan, but nothing shows up. However, they have not ruled out a slight stroke. I am worried that it could be related to her medication; she takes so many different things for so many problems, it can be hard to keep everything in balance. This caused some very serious problems for her a few years ago. But why that would cause a problem with her eye, I don't know. We do have a history of detached retinas in our family, and I know she has had some treatments for that in the past. But if that were the problem, why would it have caused the confusion, disorientation and memory loss?

She is 92 and has had a good, long life. But she is my mom, and I am so worried. It is especially hard with my being so far away. We could both use your prayers right now. Thank you, my friends.

  4. Oh Rubia, prayers and white light going to your mother and to you. I hope she is okay.
My mom had went through the same issues and a Dr told us that a stroke doesn't show up until about 24 hours on a scan, after it happens. Please keep us updated on your mom, and know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. (((HUGS))

  7. I send my prayers and white light to you and your Mom, Rubia. It sounds very much the same my Mom had a few years ago: a brain infarct. She recovered completely and I trust you Mom will too. :)

  9. Rubia, I send my prayers for your mother, and for you. It does sound as though it might have been a stroke but I'm sure they'll be doing further tests today. {{{{{Hugs}}}}}

  10. Thank you, my friends! Yes, my mom lives in San Diego. Several years ago she had a slight stroke, although that time the symptoms were more classic physical symptoms. She did recover completely from that one, and I think she has been on medications to prevent further ones. But as I say, she is on SO many different meds...

Thanks CM for letting me know about the scan. It doesn't surprise me that a stroke will not necessarily show up right away, given that the symptoms continue to worsen for a couple of days if not treated immediately.

My cousin will be taking her walker over to the hospital this morning. I will be on pins and needles until I hear from her again. However, I will also try to call my mom at the hospital a bit later.

  17. Dagmar, I am so sorry to hear this. I know you must feel so helpless being so far away. I am praying right now.

Heavenly Father, we lift up our good friend Dagmar to you. Please give her peace of mind and lessen her anxiety. We lift up her mother to you for healing of whatever this episode turns out to be. We pray that her sight return to her eye and that the reason for her disorientation is found out and successfully treated. Guide the doctors who treat her and all of the nursing staff caring for her. We pray that all who treat her are compassionate and that she is able to rest comfortably and recover completely. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

  20. Thank you, everyone!

Linda - Thanks for your offer of help! That is so kind of you. Fortunately, my cousin is very close by and is available to help out in whatever way is needed. We do have a wonderful extended family plus good friends in the area, and knowing that certainly helps my peace of mind.

My cousin has been to see her this morning, and she is still hanging in there - basically the same as she was yesterday evening. The good news is that she did remember my cousin's visit yesterday, but still doesn't remember anything from earlier in the day. I also spoke to the nurse, who said she was stable, her blood pressure was good and that she was alert and knew what was going on. Apparently her potassium level was low, so she was given something to raise that. When I called, the eye doctor was in with her, so hopefully we will have more of an idea of what is going on with her sight. I will try calling again in a few minutes.

Thanks again for all your prayers and healing energy!

  21. Thank god you have family and friends you can count on. It sounds like she might be coming out of whatever it was that came upon her. I hope she recovers and it's just a slight detour for her :)

  24. Sorry to hear about your Mum Rubia - I seem to remember reading something somewhere about low pottasium levels and confusion being linked...maybe that explains some/all of it. Keep us posted, I'll keep you in my prayers.

  25. You and your mother are in my prayers, Dagmar. I hope she clears from this episode quickly and regains her sight. This will give her doctors an opportunity to re-evaluate her medications and adjust them if needed.

  26. Dagmar, you and your mother both are in my prayers. Hoping for a quick recovery from this incident.

  27. Thanks again, my friends! I was finally able to speak to her this evening. She actually sounded fine, although I'm sure she's feeling pretty down, given what has happened. The opinion seems to be tending toward the idea that she did suffer a slight stroke. The eye doctor could not really tell anything, because he did not have all the equipment necessary, but they are thinking that main artery to that eye has become blocked. She was still waiting for the neurologist to come and see her. So, I am feeling a bit better - she does not seem to be in any immediate danger, but it is still so disquieting. Yet another health issue that she is having to deal with. When it first happened, and the people at her retirement home wanted her to go to the hospital, she didn't want to go - she was tired of that. It makes me sad, and I wish I could be there with her. I'm thinking that I should try to make the trip to San Diego. There doesn't seem to be an emergency, but I think it would provide a big morale boost, if nothing else. In the meantime, I can rest a little easier knowing she is being well looked after.

    {{{Hugs}}} to all of you!

  28. I am sure it reassured you to speak with your mother. It does sound like a T.I.A., which my mother had many, so I can totally understand. I am sure if you made the trip, it would make your mom feel better as well as yourself. That way, you can also spend some time with your mom which is always a good thing.
It sounds like she is in good hands so you can rest a bit and plan your strategy. Hugs to you and your mom. I will still keep her in my prayers.
