  1. I got a kitten who is really sick. She seems to have acquired a upper respiratory thing from her "adoptive" mom (that is a cat who had a miscarriage and took over the care of these kittens). The kittens have been solid food for a couple weeks now (they are fast developers). The other day, this little girl got a runny nose and eye. I can't seem to get her to eat either and she is really skinny. Sometimes it looks like she is dehydrated and sometimes not. I have been giving her warmed broth, honey, kitten replacement milk, a nutritional supplement from the vet, and part of the medicine for the mom (just a little bit of that since she is so young). I just don't know what else to do for her. I am worried that she will die (her father was killed by a car 3 weeks before she was born). I also have been carrying her outside for a few minutes to get some fresh air. She seems attentive and curious when I take her outside, but otherwise she just lays around. Any ideas of what else i can do?

  3. it could be as simple as it being too hot outside, but do please get your fuzzbutt to the vet asap...

  4. Vet. Now.

Kittens that young often cannot fight off infections well. Once they're running a fever and both appetite and thirst are affected, it can be hard to get them turned around - even with veterinary assistance.

Please, take this kitten to the vet.

  5. The kitten needs a vet. This could be something simple the vet can turn around quickly, but if you don't get care now there is a chance the vet won't be able to help at all. Have the vet test for FeLv and FIP too. There are some many here that are pulling for your kitten to get well.

  6. She is walking around quite a bit now. Or at least quite a bit compared to the past couple days. I'll keep everyone updated on her.

  7. Hello, I went through this type of situation with a young kitten and it took amoxicillin for about 5 days to pull him through. Now he's eating and playing and pretty normal but smaller than his littermates. I used kitten replacement milk along with baby food meats (beef, lamb) and also added in some baby food rice like pablum. I had the most success using a larger eye dropper that looks to me like one I might've used to give my children medicine. I could put it in the side of his mouth and gently get him to take small amounts. Good luck, we love our babies.

  8. She is improving fast now. I guess all that stuff i kept giving her finally worked! She is playing a little bit this morning, eyes are clear. She still sneezes a little and I can't seem to get her to eat on her own yet, but she looks and acts a 100 times better this morning.

  9. I'm so glad to hear of the improvement! I'd suggest keeping close tabs on the kitten, though. If the kitten has a relapse, please don't hesitate to visit the vet. The most important things to keep an eye on are discharge, drinking, eating, and elimination (peeing and pooping), general energy level, and whether or not her behavior seems to be normal.

Do you have a name picked out for her yet? And how is the adoptive mom doing (since you mentioned she might have picked up the infection from her)?

  10. Glad she is doing better, but please listen to anncetera--she's an expert.

  11. I'm definintly keeping a close watch on her. I haven't seen her eat or drink on her own yet, which worries me. She is smaller than the other two kittens, so maybe she just doesn't eat as much. She actually tried to play this morning, but her siamese sister got too rough for her. If you have read my introduction thread, she is the one I named Frosty.
The adoptive mom is fine, was actually fine for a few days before the kitten got sick but she was the only one who had any problems. I'll be able to watch her better Friday when I am off of work. In the meantime, I'll keep giving her the combination of stuff I've been doing.
