I am so sorry. I am praying that the vet can help him. I know he sound just like Sox. He was snap tested and negative as well and a month later died of FeLv. The pale gums is a big key to cat health. Maybe this is just an infection of the kidneys and can be treated easily with antibiotics. You are in a tough spot, my prayers are with you.

In my experience with my cats, anytime they were running a fever they wouldn't eat much but once the fever is broken they would get better. With a fever they would only drink on occassion. Mine would occassionally get hemobartonella(sp?). Their ears would have a pale shade of yellow, so would the whites of their eyes and they would have pale gums, be lethargic or just wander around and look like they were out of it with dilated pupils. I always would have to give them some antibiotic and coax them to eat and drink which took 3 to 5 days to get them to eat on their own. Best wishes that whatever Gabriel has can be treated.

Leeny, I'm hoping that Gabe can be helped. The fever indicates he has an infection of some sort; I hope the antibiotic will kick the infection.
Unusually small kidneys mean that if Gabe manages to survive the infection, you'll still need to keep a close eye out for kidney problems. Definitely be sure to ask about early warning signs of kidney failure, so you'll know what to look for (and hopefully catch it early on).
You and Gabe are in my thoughts and prayers.
