  1. I thought I wouldn't mention this but I changed my mind.

    Juuei's kidneys seem to be failing. His creatinine and urea are elevated. I don't know what to feed him because kidney and diabetes diets are sort of contrary. (Low protein vs. high protein, high energy vs. low energy) His vet is puzzled too. We are now waiting for a second opinion but because of vacations it takes a few days.

  2. Oh wow, Miu! I am very glad you shared with us. I know that when I first heard that my first cat, Whiskers kidneys were failing, I was very upset. Please know that my heart goes out to you at this scary time. Sending healing white light that they are able to help your beloved Juuei. Hugs to you.

  10. Miu,a lot of times those numbers rising can be a sign of dehydration too which is often found w/ newly diagnosed diabetes,have they given Juuei subcutaneous fluid? Then rechecked the numbers?
    Here's prayers and healing white light for Juuei,you can beat this,buddy!

  12. Oh, poor Juuei! Cats do seem to have pretty bad kidneys, some more so than others. Hopefully the vet can work out a diet that will help him. Give him some extra hugs and scritches for me.

  13. Thanks, everybody!!!

    BC: I just read even a slight infection can raise those values and that lit a small sparkle. The info from you made it shine stronger. Thank you, I certainly will ask for rehydration before next tests.

  15. I know when Bobby's kidneys were infected from the contaminated catfood, he became very dehydrated and needed subq's. When he got the antibiotics and subq's though, he recovered nicely.

    Is there any kind of supplement or anything you can give cats to help ward off kidney problems? I'm always worried since Bobby's had a problem before, he may be more susceptible to other problems in the future.

  17. I'm so sorry to read about Juuei's health issues. I am sending positive thoughts your way.

  18. I'm sorry about Juuei too. My Tansey is in the early stages of kidney failure. She couldn't take hypertension meds because of her kidneys. :-(

    So we're letting nature take its sad course (tears up) but she still enjoys a good quality of life. Eats like a horse, skinny as a rail, doesn't throw up much (she always throws up, mainly hairballs), and she has kitty arthritis in her sweet little hips. But she still runs, purrs, poops, eats, and drinks.

  19. Oh Siobhan...I'm sorry for Tansey..It's so hard to watch a beloved pet deteriorate. I'm glad she's still enjoying as much as she possibly can. Headbonks and Scritches to Tansey. I know you're taking wonderful care of her or she wouldn't be doing so well. {{{{Hugs}}}}

  22. GD,my wonderful vet in Mt Dora advised me to feed any cat over 10 or any who had kidney problems Hills CD. It's kind of pricey and I'm no sure if it's really warranted,maybe ask your vet?
    Hugs for Siobhan and Tansey.[[[Hugs]]]

  23. Poor Tansey! I sure hope somebody invents a cure for kitties kidney failure. It kills so many kitties out there... :( Let's hope Tansey has the best possible life and the best (and latest) possible death.

  25. Poor Juuie... Miu I'm so so sorry. ((hugs)) As has been stated, please keep us posted.

    ((Siobhan)) I'm sorry about Tansey.

    Kidney failure got my sweet Booble so I know how you guys feel (I think most of us probably have been through this at one time or another).

    Many hugs and prayers for you guys and your babies.

  26. Miu, ask your vet about special "senior" formulated diets, lower in protein to help with reduced kidney function. Also, there's a daily tablet, it's called Fortekor over here, Bones has been on it for years and he's still going strong (well, going wobbly really, but he is old!). I hope things aren't too advanced & you can get Juuie some effective treatment. {{hugs}}
