Prayers for Juuei & Tansey, and yes, I have been there too many times. Cats just have weak kidneys--if something is wrong they get affected right away--either that or their livers. We can only do the best we know how.....{{{HUGS}}}

Please don't give up hope. On a routine vet visit, our cat Rocky was shown to have kidney disease. He was 8 years old. My vet said that he had only 25% of his kidney function. He had less than a year to live, and the vet said we would know when it was time to bring him in to be put to sleep. We cried, our neighbors cried (everyone loved Rocky, he visited neighbors daily with purrs, face licks and head bonks.) One day my next door neighbor called me at work to say that Rocky was sleeping under her tree when she left that morning, and when she returned 9 hours later he was still lying there and she feared he was dead. I rushed home, but he had just been sleeping! A few years went by and we moved to Georgia, taking Rocky with us of course. We were here a year or so when I took him in for his senior workup with his new vet. When the bloodwork came back, they called me very solemnly into the back to tell me that Rocky was very ill. They even gave the exact same number, 25% of his kidney function! Rocky remained well, though he slept more than the other cats and sometimes needed fluids. He ended up living to age 17. He suddenly started having seizures, completely unrelated to the kidney issue. When the meds were strong enough to stop the seizures, he would just lie in his box with no control over his bodily functions. We were about to make that awful decision when the seizures returned, in spite of the meds. He looked at me in the middle of the seizure with a look of fear, pain and the unmistakable HELP ME.
His last day on earth was one any human would envy. He was bathed that morning, brushed (which he loved--he was a long-haired moo cat.) All of his favorite foods were purchased and he ate them happily. We all loved on him, he laid out on the front porch in the sunshine being petted and brushed. 1/2 hour before his appointment, he got up and struggled up ther stairs into the house and attempted to get on the bed where the other cats were. I helped him up and they all had a last snooze together. When I picked him up, wrapped in his favorite blanket, he didn't protest or act frightened, even when we got to the vet. We brought his favorite Publix chicken in a baggie, and he literally had a nice piece in his mouth, looking up at us adoringly when he went to sleep. The vet administered the final needle when Rocky was fast asleep and he never felt it. It was sad to lose him, but he was supposed to be dying when he was 8 so we feel blessed to have had him another 9 years.

Oh CW, I know you've told the story of Rocky before, but everytime I hear it I cry my butt off. You're such a wonderful person, and Rocky was blessed to have such a loving mama.
((hugs))

CW, I had not heard the story of Rocky, but you have written it so beautifully. As hard as it is to lose our beloved babies, it is heartwarming to have known that we eased their passing. I always felt that my Bombalurina had a very good day on her last day with us and that was a comfort to me. Rocky's last day sounds peaceful and exactly as he would want it to be. Thank you for sharing.

What a beautiful story, CW! ::wiping tears away:: Siobhan, I am sorry for Tansey. Hugs to you and Tansey. She sounds like what my Whiskers went through. Whiskers was diagnoised with kidney disease at age 15 and even though I fed her the special KD feline food, she eventually passed at almost age 17. I was blessed with an extra two years of her love and companionship.
Miu, I hope you find out soon how to help Juuei. Hugs to you.

So the page is now blurry from my watery eyes reading all of these posts. Rocky's story...that was it, no more tissues in the box!! How lucky he was to have had you to love him so CW.
Siobhan, your post on Tansy made me look at her catster page...my goodness she is gorgeous; she could be Kara and Karina's third sister. May she be blessed with many more happy days.
And Juuei, don't give up. God willing thre will be a treatment plan that will hold off any further deterioration in his kidney function. Many prayers for Juuei.Posted 1 year ago by Tigerlilly #
