  1. I just read Deb's post about Katie and that got me to thinking about my late baby, Spanky. One of his strangest habits was that he loved to lick the Carmex (Yes, I am a Carmex addict--just like my mother!) off of my lips. I had to practically fight him off--especially at night when I'd put it on. He'd even wake me up sometimes by doing the same thing. I think it was a menthol addiction---I also caught him scooting my toothbrush around the counter while he was licking it!

So, TDKers---what are some of your kitty's strangest habits?

  2. We have 2 pictures taped on our monitor-one of Lee and one of Amy-my hubby's twin daughters. Mitzi always licks Amy's picture-never Lee's! She would lick the picture raw if we let her! And when Amy comes to visit, Mitzi will give her purrs and kisses and ignore Lee! How she knows Amy's picture is a mystery...!

  3. Pickle - licking the net curtains

Eric - sticking his head right inside Chris' shoes (a place no sane creature with a perceived good sense of smell should want to go!!)

  4. I'm so glad you started this post Fonda, I just took a break to go to the bathroom and was thinking of starting one just like it. I have a fur ball with such a quirky personality and I was wondering about others kitties. I'm pretty new to TDK, so I haven't heard much about other TDKers kitties. Tell me about your fur friends everyone!

  5. Our Windi has the most peculiar eating habit. She has her own dish, and Willow has her own. They only eat Science Diet dry food. When she was a kitten, Windi ate like a "normal" kitty, in that she would eat out of her dish. But for the past couple of months we have noticed that she will go to her dish, or Willow's (it doesn't seem to matter to Windi), she will remove one and only one piece of food, put it on the floor and then eat it. So you can imagine - it takes her forever to eat!

I had wondered why all of those crumbs were on the floor!

  6. Have you clicked on any Catster profiles 3BK? Most pink names will link you to our own Catster pages, with pix and info about our cats. I've got 4, three youngsters (aged 2.5-3) and one cantankerous old gentleman of nearly 19, who's actually my Mum's cat, but who now lives with us.

  7. Button - eats like a JCB!!! Opens her jaw so wide you think she'll dislocate it, then shovels the biscuits up!!

  8. I'll do that madcat
    ...19, holy flip!

    Posted 3 years ago by 3Bangin'kitties #

  9. Hee hee, yup, nearly 19...very boney and tottery on his feet (except when food's involved, then he puts on a surprising turn of speed) and pretty arthritic, but doing amazingly well for his advanced years according to the vet. Does not hesitate to put the young whippersnappers back in their place with a mean right hook and/or some impressive bad language!!

  10. I have a female long haired orangie, 2 yrs old, named Padmae. LOOOOOVVVVE her! So wierd she is. She follows me everywhere I go, never more than 10 feet away, always in eye sight. But she won't let me touch her, she won't even look at me, she acts very aloof, like she so could not care less about me. Yet, she's always right there. Then, when I get on my bed it's like she goes "GAME ON", she's all over me, violently cuddling, purring, rubbing, it's like she wants to be inside me. Then I will go to the living room, and she won't even look at me again, yet stays very close. So wierd, it's like my bed is her safety spot. I can do this over and over again and she will consistanly do it.
I have to admitt, I find it very flattering, as aloof as she may act, she is oviously very attached to me!
    I love you Paddy!

  11. Someones gotta keep those whippersnappers on thier toes "LOOK ALIVE KITTEN!"

  12. It's amazing what animals can accomlish when food is involved!

    Posted 3 years ago by 3Bangin'kitties #

  13. Eric's a bit like that - he will fuss a bit outside of the bedroom, but is definitely at his purriest and most affectionate when I'm under the duvet! So endearing - just not at 04.30am....

Posted 3 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  14. Maybe Eric is on my time MCW, it's only 11:30pm here I think when it's 4:30am there :)

Posted 3 years ago by cricketsmama #

  15. Yeah, that'd be about right! I'll shove him through the wormhole next time he does it!

Posted 3 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  16. Cricket loves to lick pictures too. She has no preference, she licks away. Or when I go to the bathroom and I am washing my hands she jumps on the toilet puts her front paws on the sink and watches me wash my hands and loves the water coming out of the faucet. Just watches. Doesn't play with it or anything.
She will also run ahead of me usually when I am going up the stairs and the minute I get up there she flops right in front of me. There are times I almost stepped right on her. Silly Kitty!

  17. Snake: gets lost in the house. He could be in the hallway, I'll be in the living room, and he'll cry like he's been abandoned. I've mentioned that before. He also loves these toy mousies my dad gets from a pet pharmacy (my dad passes them on to me) — he's stripped the fur off a couple, broken a couple more, and loves to stuff them under the couch and then act pitiful.

Grumpy: Likes to be petted when we're in the bathroom. Also able to open some doors. And loves watching TV.

Spook: Actually, I think she's the most normal of the three.

  18. My Mamma Kitty loves to lick fabric. When she gets on the couch with us, we constantly have to keep moving things like blankets away from her. If we stop her from licking the blanket, she will start licking the couch. If we stop her from licking the couch, she will lick our clothing.

Shiva is extremely talkative. When I open the door to let her in, she will greet me with a running meow which sounds something like, "Meee..ee..eee..eee.." She also insists on saying goodnight to me before I go to bed. She will come in and meow at me if I am in a different room and she knows I am getting ready for bed, then she follows me around until I go into the living room. When I go into the living room, she will wait on the little couch until I come pet her for a few moments. Then she will settle down for the night. If I forget to say goodnight to her and go into my room, she will meow at the closed door until I come out, then meow at me as if to say, "why didn't you say goodnight to me?"

  19. Cheetah Boy is like Snake - he gets lost in the house and cries until we yell at him. Usually it's when he's gone downstairs to the boxes. He comes out of their bathroom and stands in the hall crying. It's pitiful.

Fila rolls over on her back when ever a man comes near her. She wants her belly rubbed. She won't do it for women very often, just trots right up to each man and flops down.

  20. Cinnamon will "talk" to me when I am on one side of a door
and she is on the other. She only makes this sound then, she
goes Meeerrr rrowww! Meeerrr rrowww! I make the noise back to
her over and over, but, if I open the door she gives me this
    WWhaatt! look.
Aggie likes to lick my knuckles, this started when I was
giving her gel Lysine for her FHV, after licking the stuff
off my fingers she would start grabbing my hands and just
    licking my knuckles.

  21. With my two cats, I am not allowed to use the bathroom alone. They seem to think that there is something mystical happening when I go in and close the door and they are on the outside of it. If they are on the outside of the bathroom door, they will shove their paws under trying to see if they can catch something fun. Mia likes to always be with me except when the sliding door is open. Then she is out there watching people, birds or whatever is going on outside. Also, when I feed them their wet food, Mia must eat from both bowls everytime and it will be just a couple of mouthfulls. The other thing is Sylvester loves to shove his face in my shoes that I have been wearing all day at work. He will also come and lick my toes which tickles.

  22. My little mama's boy likes to pretend that he's trapped on top of the fridge. It usually happens if I am cooking or in the other room, or just not paying too much attention to him. He'll jump up on top of the fridge and start crying at the top of his little kitty lungs until I go in and "rescue" him. He does know how to get down on his own, I've seen him do it. He just likes to be rescued.

  23. I love these stories, they have such big personalities. I really like the ones about fur balls tha flop down. My hubby and I call em' floppers, when they don't slowly lie down, they go from full stand to full 'flop'. So funny to me, I wish I could 'flop' whenever I wanted to!

    Posted 3 years ago by 3Bangin'kitties #

  24. And I am that Mama of the famous blankie-sucking Bobby! :)

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  25. Cinnamon is a flopper, then she "swims" while lying on her side.
She used to play another game kind of like patty-cake, only I always
called it Pitty-patty paws, but for some reason she has forgoten it,
maybe she thinks it too immature for her age. She does seem to like
games played when you can't see her, like the vocal thing, because
she will also wrestle with my hands if I reach under the door, but
not if I'm where she can see me.

  26. Mi loves drinking the water from the sink or tub and comes running whenever he hears me turn the water on. When I'm in the shower, he waits on the toilet seat for me to be done and as soon as I open the curtain, he hops right in there.

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  27. When I first got Aggie it was summer and she would actually be
in the shower with me, right behind me, so out of the actual
spray. She is still fascinated by water. She is an avid drain
watcher. She also enjoys a good flush.

Posted 3 years ago by AgnMinsMom #

  28. And crazy Bobby drinks water up the far side of his bowl and makes quite the mess of water on the floor!

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  29. Mili does this caterpillar stretch and curlup thing while lying on her side. She scoots across the rug that way. She, too, will 'cry' from downstairs if I go up. Silly kitty... just follow me !

Chloe is rather sedate.... not too much into the oddities. She will sit on the bathroom counter and reach one paw out to me when I am through in the shower if I don't pet her quickly enough.

Posted 3 years ago by 2 Popoki #

  30. Ha, 2P, Bobby does that caterpillar thing, too. He lays on the floor, stretches and claws the carpet, and then pulls himself forward. Over and over.
