  1. Hi,

My name is Mist Panther (not in real life ;)) and I have made TDK part of my morning routine for a year or so (or maybe even longer?). I do not have any kittens of my own (cry!), money and my husband allergies are in the way. Though my husband has stated that he would permanently hook himself up to an allergy med drip if thats what it took, unfortunately there is the money concern. I will probably not post all that much, I tend to be a lurker, but I decided to create an account with TDK chat because I am pretty certain I will want to make comments and posts in the future.

  4. Welcome Mist. I'm sure your future purr-babie is out there somewhere... someday. How allergic is your hubby. Mine is to, but only to certain breeds, it seems that white ones are the main ones that mess him up. Some cats have more dander that others. Mabey there is a kitty that would work?
    Good luck!

  8. There are ways to ameliorate allergies, especially if there are multiple different allergies (dander, dust, pollen, etc.). But it's true that vets cost money, as does food and litter.

I know an animal shelter near me that has a weekly "Feline Fridays" special. Kittens under five months old are only $60, and you can get two for the same price as one. (Kittens do better in pairs.) Cats over 5 months old are only $15. All cats and kittens have their shots, are wormed, altered, de-fleaed, and healthy.

  10. Welcome to TDK MP. I understand your husband. I am allergic to all animals. I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, a kitten, and a fish. Nedyurtle the Turtle lives in the back yard--we share him with our neighbors. I take allergy meds and inhalers. I have the neubulizer for bad asthma attacks. I can't live with out my furry friends. Before you make the decision to add a pet though look at the ones that cause the least problems. Your hubby sounds pretty wonderful, he is willing to go through a bunch for a furry addition to the family.

  12. Hey, if hubby's willing to bathe the cat every week or every other week, that alone should minimize any potential cat dander problems.

Sara, the woman who adopted my three little fosters, bathes them weekly because she's asthmatic. Otherwise, there's no way she could have a cat. Plus, the kittens have gotten used to it, to the point where they jump in the tub. (They want the cuddles and treats that come after the bath.)

However, she's discovered the one downside; a squirt bottle for aversion training has absolutely no effect on them!

  13. Greetings and Salutations!!!

I did not have any furbabies for a long time, tho I did post occassionally (under another handle [YoginiInNC ?????]).
Just became the *mother* of a kitten/cat (she's just over a year old with very kittenish qualities) in mid-February of this year.

    Welcome to TDK, MP!

  19. Hi, Mist Panther, and welcome to TDK!! Please do join in, even if you don't have a furr baby at the moment. This is the fluffiest site on the internet! Now, have you considered trading in your husband? :-) Just kidding!!! It's great that he has offered to have a continual antihistamine drip!

  20. Hi Mist Panther(MP), congratulations on de-lurking. Welcome to TDK, not all the members are owned by cats. That's one special hubby you have, such a generous offer, hope you can find a fuzz-butt that suits you both.

  21. welcome to TDK, Mist Panther! You have a very special man there if he is willing to permanently hook himself up to an allergy med drip for you to have a kitty or two.

  22. Wow! Didn't think I would get so many responses so fast! Thanks on those tips for allergies. The big problem is the money, at the moment most of our money that doesn't go to bills goes to our savings for a future house, and I want my future fur ball owners to have the best or at least good vet and food.

  23. Welcome MP!!!! As all have said we will share ours.
