  1. ... of pee in my livingroom!!!

He has never ever done this!
I looked at the litter box and it was clean. Why might he have done this?

He is a 'young' cat, he is 5 this year.

    Help!

  2. Good morning Marina. I've always heard if a cat starts whizzing in odd places other than the litter pan, they might have a urinary infection or he smelled something that made him want to go there.

  3. PM, he might have a UTI like Renee said, they will do it so you notice it. Believe that males are more inclined to have them.

  4. PM, I'd get him to the vet straight away. This is exactly how a urinary tract infection usually presents itself.

  5. PoorMelon! Let us know how he's doing, PM!

  8. PM, Bastian used to do that and she usually had an UTI. She would do it in front of me, she peed on the bed once and I was watching. I took her to the vet and it was an UTI.
I hope Melon is okay, please let us know.

  9. Marina, my first Meezer boy had the UTI. It is very common in Meezers and Himalayans--even my Sheba had it, but boys more so because there passage is smaller. Vet visit ASAP. Then you must get the odor out of that area with an enzyme cleaner made for this-here in the US we get it at PetSmart but you can order it online from any pet web site. I use "Nature's Miracle for Cats". Keep us posted on Melon--we care!

  10. An UTI what is that?
Awwww my baby! I haven't read all this because I have been out all day...
He might be in pain? Why does this always happen on the weekend!!!
Can I wait to Monday or should I go to an emergency vet...

  11. Urinary Tract Infection. If he gets blocked completely for too long, it will damage his kidneys. Watch him closely--if he can still pee you can wait until Monday, but if he can't pass any pee get him to the vet immediately.

  12. Urinary tract infection, PM

  13. Urinary Tract Infection PM - and being a male cat, they can I'm afraid be quite dangerous if they become a blockage. Keep an eye on him, try and get plenty of fluids down him, and if he starts getting listless (tired/lethargic/out of character), then emergency vet it is. Otheriwse, if he seems OK in himself, wait til Monday. If it is a UTI he'll need antibiotics.

  18. Poor little Melon Man! :( Keep us posted, PM!

  19. I'm just so glad I asked... I just thought Melon had decided to find other exciting places to pee or that he was complaining about dirty litter...
Now I find that he could be sick!

  20. PM at least if it is a uti it is easily treated by the vet.

  21. PM, in my experience when a cat pees other than where they're supposed to, something is definitely wrong.

Whether it's a urinary tract infection, a dirty litter box, a fellow cat in the household attacking them (or trying to play with them) while they're in the litter box, a new kind of litter, a different litterbox, a different litterbox location, senility... there are just so many different things it could be.

In my opinion, cats develop urinary tract infections (bladder infections) often enough, that a visit to the vet is the first thing to do when encountering peeing elsewhere than the litterbox.

  22. You are so right anncetera, I'm just worried because poor Melon is alergic to antibiotics and last time he had them clumps of his fur fell and he got attacked by some kind of fungi...

Posted 3 years ago by PipasMumSpain #

  23. There are other antibiotics he could have--the vet will know what to give him instead.

Posted 3 years ago by Sheba's Mom in Phoenix, AZ 10/8 #

  24. Hugs to all again. I'm going to bed now and tomorow melon and I will go to the vet.
    I will keep everybody posted.

It is a complicated weekend for me as Javier's parents have come from Pamplona... buuuuut I have my priorities....

Posted 3 years ago by PipasMumSpain #

  25. PM, your vet will best be able to advise you. If he has a UTI, the vet may know of treatment other than antibiotics that would help. It may also be that Melon's not allergic to all antibiotics, but only one family of them. So there may be some additional testing needed, or a different antibiotic that might work.

All medications have possible side effects; the trick is finding one that's effective, and where the side effects are less harmful than the disease itself. I'm sure you will make the best decisions possible for Melon, regardless.

  26. You don't know the peace I get when I receive all your feedback. Is there something you people don't know?

Thank you all again and again. I for one have healthier cats since I have met all of you.

Melon and Pipa send purrs and headbonks to all you caring TDKers.

  27. Thinking positive thoughts for poor Melon. Hope the vet can find out what might be the cause of all of this. Hugs to Pipa's Mum and gentle headbonks and purrs to Melon.

  28. Poor Melon...Marina you're such a good meowma...I agree that this site is so great for asking questions. I have so much faith in the advice and suggestions everyone gives. Yep! Smarty Pants We Got! :D Give Melon some hugs and kisses for me!

  29. Marina, when I came home from work one Friday evening, Wolfie left a puddle of pee...in the middle of my BED! I was completely stunned! Fortunately it did not go through the comforter to the mattress. I ended up in the emergency vet at 6 am Sunday morning, crying, no makeup, pillow mark across cheek...he had been straining in the litterbox for 45 minutes when I took him. Why, WHY is it always the weekend? Why can't they just let us have a few antibiotic pills to get through the weekend until Monday??? Arrrgghh.

Hope dear Melon is well soon!
