I woke up at four to things getting knocked over, hissing and growling and thought the boys were fighting again. When it didn't stop after I yelled, I turned on the light and went to put one of them in the bathroom.
I found Bobby on his side, thrashing, hissing seemingly choking. I freaked out - I opeened his mouth in case something was stuck, but there was nothing lodged there, but I got bittne pretty good - not that I noticed that til later! I was screaming, crying, pacing and fumbling to find my phone.I called the vet to get the emergency vet number, called and woke up some woman, because I was so out of it, I called the wrong number. (She sounded like she'd gotten called before, though!)
I got throught to the vet who told me they closed at four and I should call a 24-hr. place. He then gave me their number and I called them and they told me to come in. Bobby had come through and I put him in the carrier and drove him over.
They were very nice and said they thought I was right, that it was a seizure. The vet dilated his pupils and checked them out, looked at his ears and in his mouth. He checked that he didn't have a fever, and that his heart and kidneys wer fine. He also gave me an ice pack for my swollen fingers and told me never to put my hands in the mouth of an animal having a seizure. He said Bobby needed to have blood tests done and that they could do it or my regular vet and I chose to take him to my vet, since they know him.
I had to rush Bobby home - he was sleepy, but seemed okay - and go to work, since the person Icalled up didn't answer the phone. I worked for two hours and left when my boss got in. I had set up an appointment with Bobby's vet and got him there at nine. They checked him out, too - no fever, a strong heart, no signs of kidney problems, but he's very tired.
I told them to go ahead and do the blood tests. They came back with himand told me how strong he is. They tried taking the blood from his neck, but apparently he refused and they took it from his hind legs instead.
They told me to keep a close eye on him and call them if anything else happens. They'll call me when the tests come back.
Both vets told me to get antibiotics for the bites I got, so after the vet, I dropped Bob at the office, and went to a clinic. I got cleaned up, got 7 days' worth of antibiotics and a tetanus shot.
I'm back at the office now, and Bobby is sleeping on his chair. He's very tired, but otherwise seems okay. He scared me so badly! I'm worrying about the results of the tests and both of us would really appreciate some prayers.
I'll keep you all posted on how he does.
