Please give Bob extra hugs from his Auntie HM. Like everybody else (and especially you) I'm worried about this precious baby.

Oh no, poor Bobby! I've been away from the computer all day so I just saw this. I certainly hope and pray that this was a one-time thing. I've never had a cat seize, but RT tried to commit suicide with some yarn once - and nearly succeeded. GD, I didn't do a good job of handling that one either, so don't feel bad. When it's our babies, we don't think clearly sometimes. Plenty of prayers and white light coming Bobby's way.

Thanks, all! It's helps to have you all pulling for my sweet boy!
I just went for a visit with Bobby in his chair and he smells all funny from eye drop dilation stuff, two vet's offices, who knows - I'm going to stop and get some wipes and clean him off a bit when we get home. After that, we're going to hit the blankie!!!I'm not sure I'm going to sleep very much tonight. I'm worried it may happen again while I'm asleep. I was lucky things got knocked over this morning so I woke up, bhat if I hadn't woken up? It makes me wonder if maybe this sort of thing could have happened before when I wan't around or awake?

GD, I don't know but since he's been so lethargic after this episode, you would have noticed that if it had happened before, I think.

GD anytime you have punture wounds try and get them to bleed. The physical act of bleeding will flush the wounds and hopfully the bacteria out. Let us know how both of ya'll are doing

Miu, it was mentioned as an option in the papers the vet gave me. We're going to do the blood work first and see if anything shows up.
I guess you're all right that I should have noticed it if he'd had one before since he's so lethargic now, but he's always so mellow, I may not have been able to tell the difference.
BHM, I shouldn't make them bleed now, though, right? I mean they're really sore, swollen and hard to the touch - it would hurt like crazy!
-
Thanks, Leeny!
We're going home in a few minutes and I'm going to see if I can find the website the first vet printed out for me and post it.
I wonder how Milo will react when we get home. When we got home after the first vet visit, he walked up to Bob and sniffed at him, backed up and then whacked him in the head with a paw - softly, but nonetheless! Wonder if Bobby smelled sick to him? He smells strange even to me. -
Gd.. What a terrifying experience this morning for you and Bob. I, too, would have checked for a foreign object lodged in the throat.(And would do now, if that situation would arise.) Regardless of the recommendations not to do so. Had it been a piece of string, plastic, or whatever that was visible, not checking for, would have been disaterous also. (In my opinion). I commend you for your actions, in such a stressful situation. I, for one, would have stuck the house key in the car ignition, and been totally immobilized!! Prayerfully, this is just one of those freak incidents that happens in cats, with full recovery, and no future re occurrences. Sorry for your swollen fingers, and much worse the tetanus shot!! Positive vibes for Bobsky and all the test results.

Thanks, Chuck, I sure hope it was, too!
Bobby and I are going home now, and Bobsky wants you all to know how much he appriciates the prayers, hugs, scritches, well-wishes, presents on Catster and everything. We'll get back on when we get home. Thanks again for being here for us today!

GD, my prayers with you and Bobby. I am so glad that you had your hand attended to. Puncture wounds can be deceiving . The outside injury may look minimal but it's the perfect "injection" of bacteria and so your doc was right in giving you prophylactic antibiotics. Mouth wounds are the worst as there are a lot of bacteria in the mouth; in fact, the worst wound is a human bite, interestingly enough. I personally would not recommend making it bleed (check with your doc, however), I would manipulate it as little as possible, except for being meticulous in keeping it clean , icing it for discomfort, maybe soaking it in soapy water or hydrogen peroxide, and keeping a close eye for increased redness or tenderness (which you should get checked out ASAP if this does happen).
Having said all that, I too would have put my hand in my kitty's mouth to check for a foreign object...you did the right thing...what if he had been choking?
Poor angel Bobby, he is such a good boy...God willing all will settle down and this will not recur.
Try to get some rest, both of you.Posted 3 years ago by Tigerlilly #

Poor Bobsky, hope they find out why he had the seizure soon....now you need to watch and take care of your own wound(s) on your hand. Prayers and healing wishes to both of you {{{{hugs}}}}

We're home! I stopped and got Bobby some kitty bath wipes and wiped him down when we got here. He's still very tired, but he ate his little portion of Milo's wet food and he's been cleaning himself which I've heard before is a good sign. Milo sniffed at Bob when we got here, but he's avoiding him. Can he smell his Big Bro was sick?
I'm thinking of getting up every couple of hours tonight to check on him, even if just for my own sanity's sake. I told Boss that Bobby will be coming in to work every day for a while. Thanks for the information,TL, that's good to know! I'm going to keep an eye on it and I'm thinking soaking it in soapy water would be nice. The doctor cleaned it a bit, sprayed it with stuff, applied some sort of paste and put bandages on. My tetanus shot area is itching, but it'll go away eventually. I hope the same is the case for whatever this thing with Bobby is!

no not now, when it first happens. If the antibiotics dont start working in the next few days (give them at least 3 days, 5 better) go back to the doc. You wanna make sure that they get better.

I'll do that, BHM!
This is the article the first vet printed out for me this morning:

and:

Milo must be confused as to why Bobsky smells strange from his visit to the two vets.
When I went to the petstore yesterday, I bought some catnip smelling kitty bath wipes for just in case. When Sylvester yakked up, he had residue cat food on his chin and his "bib" area. I wiped him with a wet paper towel but the kitty wipes would have been better. So now I am prepared for a next time although I am hoping that doesn't happen.
Sounds like the Nurses of TDK have you covered GD on how to take care of your hand and that you will be "catnapping" through out the night on Bob-watch.

Bobby smells so much better now after the wipes! Now he's hanging around with me taking it easy. I'll be getting up during the night to check on him - I probably won't be able to sleep well anyway!
Thanks again for everything. We're going to hang out with blankie now and seif that'll make him feel better!

TL beat me to this with her explanation of the perfect injection of bacteria into a wound. Let me add that Cat Scratch Fever is more than a rock anthem. It is a particularly nasty anerobic (likes to grow where it cannot get air like a puncture) infection and it got it's name because it is a commonly carried on cat claws and in their mouths.
You can't do Bob or Milo much good if you are in the hospital on IV drips so don't ignore your injury with the "I'll take care of Bob then me" prioritization. Taking care of your bites is taking care of Bob.

GD, try to get some sleep. While you're up, I would personally try icing that hand. Got a package of frozen vegetables? Works great as an ice pack.
Precious Bobby - I just know that you will be fine because you have so much love and so many people sending up special prayers.
Now, GD - got any of that licorice vodka left? A small glass might be just what the doctor (our Tigerlilly) ordered.

Well said WWM! Ailuromanic, you are so right.
Bottom line GD, if your hand gets worse, rather than better, at any point (even if it's in a matter of hours, vs days), please have it checked out. More likely than not, we are all just being overly cautious, but we just want you well and healthy.
So rest up, love your boys and do as WWM says!!Posted 3 years ago by Tigerlilly #

Aww... Tigerlillly, I'm just a nurse. We take orders from you!!! :-) You DID order vodka, didn't you?????
