  1. In which case, I've been very bad indeed...

Off to rescue a minimum of two kittens, maybe 8-10 weeks old, found in the overflow parking lot of an auto shop (light industrial & commercial zone). There may be others; I sent the caller to go quietly check to see if there are any others.

Good thoughts are appreciated! I will follow up with more information on them later today.

  15. How wonderful of you to do this Anncetera. You must have a wonderfully nurturing reputation for someone to call you & ask for your help in saving these babies.

If it weren't for the fact I need desperately to go back to work,I would love to do rescue.

I can't wait to here details of the little fuzzies.

  17. I promised an update, so here it is!

They're two kittens, feral, sex unknown. One is a shorthaired brown tabby; the other is a long-haired mostly black tuxedo kitty. I estimate their age to be about 12 weeks; definitely weaned.

In any other regard, I haven't been able to assess them at all yet. From what I could see of the tabby, and from how little the box they were carried in weighed, they're definitely skinny. Folks working at the shop said they haven't seen the mother in days; they think maybe she was picked up by animal control. (If so, she was probably euthanized if she was feral.)

No other kittens were found, in searching the area with the parked cars where these kitties were found. It's been blisteringly hot for the past 3-4 days; I can't imagine where these guys might have been able to find water. (Thank goodness they didn't get into any antifreeze.)

Apparently the tuxie isn't completely averse to people; my friend told me they were kind of petting it. But the brown tabby wants nothing to do with people at all.

As soon as I can get photos and more information, I'll let y'all know. (That part could take a few days.)

The people working at the shop were about to call Animal Control when my friend Amy called. If she hadn't been there, at least one of these little guys probably would be put down within 72 hours.

  20. Thank God they were rescued. They're young enough that I would imagine with food, water ,and love , they will be fine with humans in no time. Looking forward to pis, I'm sure that they are darling.

  26. You're awesome anncetera, and all here who rescue kitties.

  27. Good news! At least one of them has come out to eat and used the litterbox. I think it's going to take a while to friendly them up, though; they're showing no desire to come out of their box whenever I'm around.

I think I got them early enough, though, to help re-educate them about humans. They may never be cuddly, but I'm hopeful I'll be able to get them to friendly.

I think I'll let the food they currently have in their dishes run to empty, and after that I'll go armed with either tuna or yogurt. That might help persuade them quicker...

  28. Anne, you're just plain EVIL !!! (NOT)...

to turn feral kitten in to lovebugs by the use of tuna --- and yogurt !!!

no kitten can resist those foods....what chance do they have at remaining feral ???

    NONE !!!

again - you are EVIL !!! (NOT)
