You are such a hero HB for all you're trying to accomplish! This little one is a real plate full. One thing you may want to keep in mind is that if there are internal problems that there is a real possibility he cannot suvive with any amount of care. I don't say this to upset you...please..I had a beautiful kitten once who appeared to be normal in every way, except that he dragged a back leg in an odd fashion. He appeared to nurse normally and showed no real signs of illness. At four or five weeks I decided to take him in to see the vet. To our horror..it was discovered that he actually had no anal opening. I'll add here that he was a longer furred kitty and this just wasn't something that is normally missing. The vet did some exploratory surgery on kitty that night and when he called he said he was amazed that the kitten had survived as long as he did. His internal organs were all wrong. Kitty didn't survive the surgery but he wouldn't have survived life even if he had made it through. So..hon..as tough as all this is..remember that everything you're doing is really heroic. You're giving this little one everything you've got. I'm praying for you and the wee one that all will be a success. I just don't want you to be too hard on yourself if things don't work out. {{{{Hugs}}}}

If the little one doesn't make it, at least you know that you gave him all the love and attention you could for his short life. Sometimes loving them means letting them go.

almost time for the vet! He is doing "alright" has more energy and is able to stand for a few seconds before falling over again..he is also able to keep his balance to sit as long as he wants. Have been mixing pedialyte with KMR and 1ml kayro and some chicken baby food! So he is getting all he need sin one shot becuase it is so hard to feed..it takes an hour for 5ml of the food mix and 30mins for 5ml of the water mix =(

HB, I have been keeping up with your post since yesterday. You, Peewee, and mama kitty have been/are in my prayers also. I haven't responded before now because I know how time consuming this has been for you and I did not want to interfere with everyone trying to get advice to you. And I won't keep you now, but I just had to tell you that your spirit is amazing. It is people like you that reminds me that there is truly a God and He dose have angels working amongst us. Thank you for all that you are doing for those two precious animals. You will be blessed, believe that. I also feel confident you have come to the right place for advice/help, there seems to be an awful lot of wonderful people on here. Good luck HB, your awesome!

OK so we are back! This vet was a bit more optimistic which i loved! He says he gives Mr. Kitty who i have now named "Dutch"(after my daddy =( ) a "pretty decent" chance. He says i need to keep feeding him and hydrating him..he showed me how to do a "ringer"??? It is where i inject fluid under his skin. It scares me BUT if he gets bad again i have to do it! He also gave me some perscrip. science diet soft food to mix with the KMR. He said it has more fat which he needs now. He told me to only feed him until he really starts to refuse it, he said force feeding him when he is crying and such can actually make it worse.
His lungs were clear(so my fear of asperation has deminished!!!) He gave me different drops for his eye and some drops for his ears. He also gave me nurti-cal..its like a brownish paste that smells really sweet to use insted of kayro..He told me if all else fails i can bring him back and he can TRY to show me how to tube feed..he said its scary, its hard and often doesnt go well, but it would be a last resort!
Dutch has a strong heart beat, clear nose, clear lungs and a strong meow. He is walking much better(though still a bit wobbly, but doesnt fall down near as much).
On to momma kitty who is now named Cinderella(because NO ONE could ever fit in her shoes with those BIG feet and all those toes! lol). I;m calling her Rella for short..she stoped nursing because she has an infection in her nipples! i had NO CLUE i thought they were so big because she was filling wiht milk..nope its infection! So she is on meds and cant be spayed until it is gone. She was also given frontline..to spite my citrus baths she still had tons of the buggers! Other then that momma is good.
OH and much to my surprize this vet believes Dutch is 7 weeks old..not 4. He said his size is deceiving...he bases this off of his teeth. He said he will always be a very small cat WHEN he makes it! he kept saying WHEN and not IF like the other vet..so i feel much better...we will continue down our rocky raod an di will keep you updated!

Wow, that is great news about Baby Dutch, HB! I had a sick elderly kitty, and when all else failed she would lick the NutriCal paste off of my finger.
Poor little Rella - of course you couldn't have known.
A good report today - that makes it a great day. Good job!!!!

Wonderful news, and what wonderful help from the vet! Now both kitties have what they need, and it is because you cared about them and got that help for them.
A lot of TDK cats have had to have fluid injected under their skin. I'm sure that, if it has to be done, you'll find support here.

FanTAStic news! Yay for Dutch and Rella, and yay for the new vet too -- but most of all, yay for you. Don't worry about having to give an injection -- it's scary the first time you have to do it but it's much easier than it looks. (One of my cats, Jasper, is diabetic and I have to jab him twice a day; if he's eating, he doesn't even notice.)SUCH good news!

You are a true hero! There was a sweet man named "Dutch" in our church when I was growing up. He was the strong silent type--and the milkman! I'm keeping the faith that your love will pull your baby Dutch through. the new vet sounds wonderful. Glad you found him. And us.

HLB, I'm so pleased to hear about Dutch and Rella! You did exactly the right thing in taking them to the vet, and this vet sounds much more helpful to you, in terms of helping them both recover fully.
As long as Dutch is swallowing okay, you should be able to get by with frequent oral fluids. If he starts vomiting or having significant difficulty swallowing, that would definitely be a sign to start subcutaneous Ringer's solution.
The Nutrical is much better than Karo; lots more vitamins and minerals! (But I figured you had easy access to Karo corn syrup when I mentioned it; wasn't sure how easily you might be able to put your hands on Nutrical or Felovite.)
From what you've described, it sounds like little Dutch is on the road to recovery. There's still quite a bit of work involved, until he's able to eat, drink & eliminate all on his own. But the work you're doing is giving him the chance he needs. Good for you!
I'm glad Rella now has the antibiotics she needs to eliminate her infection. Who knows how bad that could have gotten, if she hadn't gotten help from you?
I'm so proud of you! You've made all the difference in the world to these two kitties; they would likely have died without your intervention. They will thank you and repay you with a lifetime of devoted companionship and gratitude. It seems the ones who've had the roughest time are also the most grateful when their forever home is finally found.

HLB, what is the latest news on lil' Dutch and mommy Rella? I pray that all is progressing nicely. {{{{hugs to you all}}}}

Well i have "mixed" news. Rella is doing "ok" the antibiodics made he tummy upset and she started vomiting..got scared and ran back to the vet! She now has what the vet calls a "gut replacer" i guess it helps her tummy and keeps to good bacteria from being killed off with the bad. She is fattening up with her special diet and when she is at 6lbs(i guess being a minecoon she should be 20lbs or more and she is ony at 4lbs) We are going to spay and groom her.
Dutch is not in the clear..he started "seizing"..like his whole body would shake and twitch..so he is back at the vet as of lastnight..he will be staying there and the vet will be taking him home..he is on IV fluids and tube feedings =( BUT she thinks if we continue this he will be just fine. He is also in injection antibiodics for to help his eye, ear and now seems a respitory infection. we will see what happens!
Also incase anyone was wondering Dutch was my daddy's name. That is why this special little guy has his name. ALSO
I have NO IDEA who it was but someone today made a private anon. donation to Dutch and Rellas vet bill!!!!! It was 120 dollars and will help so much! Between the emerg. vet, the 2 other reg. vets who just wanted me to put him down and this hospital stay little Dutch and his momma have cost us almost 1,000 dollars =X not exactly an easy thing with 1 income and 2 little boys! I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO greatful!

I will be praying for you and your new furr family HLB. As far as the donation, it could have been anyone here. There is a reason this site is undeniably the best place on the net. Welcome to TDK where miracles DO happen! {{{{hugs}}}}}
