  1. Well, the little guy survived his vet visit. I picked him up around 4 this afternoon because I had to go to work at 5. I could hardly tear myself away from him because he was so doped up he was staggering around like a drunken sailor. I was afraid he'd hurt himself. He had been sedated because the Dr. was going to catherize (?) him, but he ended up peeing before the procedure. But the Doc still checked him out thoroughly and gave him a cortisone shot.

Maxie just wanted was to get to his food and water. He was hungry because he hadn't had anything since yesterday. The vet sent me home with Hill's Prescription K/D for him.
Just got home from work, and he's still groggy, but he's walking a little better. Hopefully, he'll get a good night's sleep and feel better in the morning. He's laying peacefully on my lap right now. Molly is really bent out of shape!! She hates the smell he brings home, I think. Last time, she growled at at him every time he came near her for a week! At least I'll be home most of the day tomorrow so I can keep an eye on him. My poor baby boy!
Thanks to everyone who sent hugs and good wishes for him--I told him that he has a lot of people who love him.

  2. Awww Max!! Molly just smells the vet on him, so that's why she's a bit bent out of shape for now. I am glad he was able to pee and that he is better. Poor little guy. Please give him extra love and kisses for me MMM.

  3. Awwww...Poor Max! I'm so sorry you feel so bad little Mr. MM I'm glad you'll have more time with him tomorrow. I hope he starts feeling better soon. {{{Hugs}}}

  4. Tell Max to stay out of WWM's martinis!! Sorry poor attempt at humor. Max I bet you are glad to be home even if Molly growls. Things will get back to normal soon and until then milk the humans for extra snorgles and very long cuddly naps.

  5. I hope Max gets better soon. Dara sends him a headbonk. Spike sends his usual sniff of disinterest in anything that isn't food or a catbrush.

  6. I'm glad that Max is feeling better. Please give him scritches for me.

  7. There must be some medication that would prevent stones or crystals from forming in the poor little guy's bladder. If there isn't one, someone should develop it STAT before poor Max has another episode. It must be very painful for him and so worrisome for you.

  10. That's the food my vet gave Sheba when she had her UTI--it has the medicine in it-very convenient! After he finishes that food he will probably be switched to C/D to maintain. Many of my cats have been on this; my NY vet fed this exclusively to ALL his cats, whether they needed it or not.

  14. Poor Max! I hope he's better today, MMM!
Bobby smelled bad from the vet, too, and Milo smatked him, but I didn't want to give him a bath since he wasn't well. I went and got some kitty bath wipes and they worked really well. You may even want to wipe down Molly, too, so they smell the same - that could help.
I'm praying for your Max. Hugs to both of you!

  15. Thank you all for your concern-Max is doing much better but he's still kinda slow today. It was so sad last night to watch him try to jump up on a chair or end table to look out the window--he just couldn't do it, he was so doped up. He was determined to get to his food and water, he was so hungry. I couldn't get him to stay put in any of his favorite places. This morning he came up and got on the bed with me, so he's getting better. And he is using the litter box, thank goodness!

Haven't noticed too much hostility from Molly today--maybe she realizes that he's sick and is trying to be nice (ya think?)!! I'm trying to give her special time, too.

Sheba's Mom-the people at the vet's office were surprised that Dr. Black gave Max the K/D formula-they even called him to make sure that it was right. He said absolutely yes, but I should come in next week and get some of the C/D for use after the K/D was finished. This is prescription stuff, sold only by vets, they said. But it's expensive!! A friend suggested Purina 1 Urinary Tract. Anybody have any experience with Purina?

  16. MMM I am glad to hear Max could get in bed with you. That probably is a comfort for him as well as you. It is also a good thing he is using the litterbox. I have used Purina. With Max's problem though I have a feeling that it is better to have the food recommended by the vet. This isn't the first time he has had this problem is it? There are others, as you know, that are far better with this type of advice.

  17. This is Max's second bout with this problem. I'd do anything to help him, but if I can find a less expensive alternative for food, I'm open for suggestions.

    Posted 3 years ago by MaxandCali'sMom #

  18. If you haven't tried the Purina why not try it?

Posted 3 years ago by SoxsMom #

  19. Could you ask your vet to recommend something?

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  20. Also, I've heard some good things about these:

You can find them at PetsMart, Petco etc. as well.

  21. Thanks GD, couldn't hurt. They recommend cranberry juice for humans when they have UT problems, so why not cats?

    Posted 3 years ago by MaxandCali'sMom #

  22. Willow and Windi send hugs to their buddy, Max. And you're right, MMM - cranberry juice is exactly what we tell people to drink for the acidity. So why not? IF Max will eat those!

  23. How's Max doing today, MMM?

  24. Mornin' GD and everyone who's on site this morning!!
Max gave me another scare last night--he was just laying there, no activity at all. I checked the litter box, and there had been deposits, but, of course, I couldn't tell whether they were Max's or Molly's, but there was more than one, so I figured he must have done at least one of them. But he was still acting lethargic. Got up about 5:30 a.m. to check on him and when I looked into the still dark living room, I saw what looked like a dark stream with a glob of something at the end, plus a larger blob a little ways away. So I turned on the hall light-thank goodness the long stream with a glob was a play toy string with a fuzzy ball on the end. The other blob, though, was a tremendous turd!! With the size of it, I think it must have been pretty hard to eliminate it, so when he got the urge, he just let go!! But it was solid, so no mess to clean up. Now he seems pretty happy-he's still a little fatigued from the whole vet thing, but he's sleeping quitely on my lap right now.

And thanks to everyone again for their care, thoughts, prayers and hugs!!! Love you all!

  26. ((Max)) Poor guy he might have been a bit constipated and he finally got to let one loose.
    Scritches and loves to Max

  27. Great Dane-
You were so kind as to inquire about Max this morning, but I selfishly forgot to ask about Bobby! How is he doing? Very well, I hope. Do you think maybe he should stay home with Mama for a while? Perhaps he's getting "travel fatigue"?? LOL! I'm sure he's loving his trips to the office with you. Wish I could take mine, too. Does Mi get jealous when Bob is gone all day, or is he really, really happy to see you guys when you get home?

Anyway, hope he has no recurrences of those awful seizures. God bless.

Thank you, too, CM for your hugs and good wishes.
