I got a kitten about 3 weeks ago, he's around 8 weeks old now give or take. The last 3 days, today will be the fourth, he's been sick all of the sudden. The first day it started he vomited once, and that was that, he was fine afterwards. Still played and stuff, so I didn't think much of it. Second day, he did it again...and he didn't want to eat as much, and he was quiet, more during the evening...and then I started getting a bit concerned. Yesterday was even worse, he wasn't himself at all...he was not too too bad in the morning, still wasnt normal, but after he vomited again on the third day, he went way downhill after that. He stopped eating, drinking, he stopped playing...all he wanted to do was sleep, or just lay there. My mom and I took him into the vet and she gave him anti-biotics, a de-wormer and fluid under his skin to keep him hydrated...she checked his temperature, stomach and heart and everything seemed fine. When we got home around 4:30, all he did was sleep till about 9:00...he got up, but didn't move much, just sat there with his eyes open a bit. He got worse after going to the vet it seems, today, he wont even walk, he'll pull himself across the floor a bit if he wants to move, I don't understand what is going on. He's still alert and everything, he can still hold is head up, but he doesn't want to walk, he's scary quiet and he wont eat or drink....and theres like no life in his eyes, he almost looks like maybe he's dying :( Can anyone help me at all?

Important that you keep the little one hydrated with pedialyte or something along that order, and taking him back to the vet in the a.m. seems to be in order. Can you get him to eat even a little bit of wet food? There are others so much more knowledgeable but they won't be on until a bit later this a.m.....

Thanks for replying both of you, and I'm in Canada, it's only the early morning. I took him to the vet yesterday, and we thought that maybe it was perisites, worms, or an infection, so we gave him stuff to treat that. It hasnt been 24hrs yet, do you think the stuff hasnt kicked it yet, or is it something else? To me, the symptoms seem to be a little more unusual then for it to be perisites or something. He doesn't even want to walk, which isn't good...and all of this is all of a sudden, he was a crazy kitten, just buckwild untill a couple of days ago. He's my first little kitten to, so I'm scared I may lose him :( I'm going to have to call the vet back today.
And no Azdebra, he won't even eat soft cat food. He ate a tiny bit yesterday morning, ate a little but of tuna...and the vet gave him a little tiny bit of soft food yesterday, which he ate, but he won't touch it now, he got worse after visinting the vet. I'm going to have to force feed him, and give water to him through a seringe if he won't take it willingly.

Use the seringe and get fluids in him asap, And take him to the vet asap!

Jessteen, we can't really tell what's wrong with him from here. There are very knowledgeable members who I'm sure will be able to advise later on when they log on but it could be anything; maybe the antibiotics haven't kicked in yet or maybe he's dehydrated. Cats do get very sleepy when fighting infection; it could just be that but not eating is always a worry, especially with little ones and of course you're worried about him. That's why it's best to contact the vet. I would suggest ringing their office as soon as they're open, tell them what's going on and make an appointment. Best of luck with your baby.

Is the fluid bubble still under his skin? I know that you said the vet put it in yesterday. Did the vet treat him for the parasites, worms, and/or infection or did they give you the stuff to treat the kitten?

Pedialyte or karo syrup on his gums might help for now until you get him to the vet.

The vet gave him the de-wormer, and I'm suppose to give him another in 2 weeks time. And she gave my mom and I the anti-biotic to give to him every 12 hours or so. And I'm not sure if the fluid bubble is still there, I haven't felt anything..but I haven't been looking for it though, so how large should it feel?
When my mom wakes up I'm going to be giving him some anti-biotic, and try and give water through another seringe...aslong as he gets a little water, that should be better. I'll be calling the vet as soon as I can, for now all I can do is treat him with what the vet gave me, and pray that he'll get better. That's all I've been doing is praying.

The fluid bubble will be absorbed by the kitten to hydrate him, depends on the size of the kit to how much they put in. If he still won't eat anything when the stores open, buy some baby food (turkey, beef, chicken or something along those lines) and try to feed him a bit of that....if you put it in the fridge, microwave it just a tad enough to take the chill off and it enhances the smell of the food. Cats sometimes won't eat if they can't smell because of not feeling well, and heating the food makes it smell a bit more.

You need to get this kitten to the vet again! While it's normal for some lethargy when ill, this kitten's condition appears to be deteriorating.
In the meantime, keep the kitten at a comfortable temperature; keep in mind that the kitten may have less ability to regulate his temperature right now. Smear a little Karo corn syrup along his teeth or on his tongue; not a huge glopping amount, though, nothing that he would choke on. If you can get your hands on Pedialyte, that would be even better than water for him. If not, then water or Gatorade will certainly be better than nothing.
When you syringe him, give him only a tiny amount at a time; maybe 1/4 ml or 1/2 ml. Make sure he's not choking on what you give him, whether it's wet food or fluid. There will be a little sloppiness and spillage, but most of it should be swallowed.
Get to the vet; he may need to be hospitalized to recover.

This kitten sounds a lot like what happened to Salem, my kitten!!! BRING HIM/HER TO THE VET!!! And like Anncetera said use some karo syrup I know it can be messy... since he's not eating he probably has low blood sugar and one of the reasons why your kitten has no energy.
Good luck!!!

hi jessteen! well does your little kitty has all their shots? couse it seems to be that is too small....well i have a friend on mexico that had cat he was grown up but he didn't have vaccines, one day he started the same as your kitty, she left it and the cat didn't eat in 4 days she brought him to the vet and he gave some medicine and he was find , i went to mexico i saw him and he was eve fat......i was there 2 weeks, wen i came back,my friend told me that he was sick again for the same....the same vet continued saying that it was a throat infeccion, thats why he vomit becouse he felt pain in the throat, well she decided t bring her cat to another opinion and number one, one cat can't stay too long wuthout eating, couse its liver get a big damage, so try to feed hem less by less, and tehe vet said that it was not only the throat he had rinhotraqueitis, is something similar to moquillo in dogs...and is mortal but if it is detected on time 100% curable, when i came back i travel always with my cat and like a month later she started vomiting and my friend told me to bring the cat to the vet but tell the vet about that illnes, i went to the doctor my cat has all vaccines, and he said that it could be a human hair that is stocked on the throat, the food, and thanks god he checked her from rinhotraqueitis, and she was find, some medicatons couse she has parasites ...and she is find know, i tell you the hole story, couse i do'nt know much of kittis but the opinions that i listened are important, it could be a human hair in the throat, the food doesn't matter if kittie was eating it since one month and did't have vomit, that's what happened with mine, believe it or not, parasites that they see on the poop, or something worst, the thing is that you have to bring your kittie and tell the vet to check it from that desease commonly they dn't notice only when they are too sick like my friends cat, so tell him to check your kitty,of that illness, but happens what happens you have to insist with the food and water.....remember is a very bad injury to the liver...good luck!!!!! and tell us what happen
-
ok, i looked for my cat's record, so it would be easier for you to ask the vet...the vaccine for that desease is FVRCP, that incluedes for some oher deseases, just tell your vet if your baby has that shot? even if its yes tell him to check if baby did't catch one desease included in that vaccine, my english is not that good, i hope you understand it, and i wish with all my heart that your baby wets well soon!!!!!!

Call the vet first thing in the AM and find out if this is normal--a small kitten can be overcome very quickly, and you need to tell the vet what is going on. Prayers to you and your kitten; please keep us posted.

Thanks so much for everyone that tryed to help with advice, I really appreciate it. I have really sad news, my mom and I put my kitten down yesterday afternoon. There was nothing we could do.If we did anything it would have cost over 1000$ and there would have been still a high chance he wouldnt have even made it, thats how sick he was. There was something seriously wrong with his organs, in his back end, he couldnt lift his back legs or anything in the matter of only 3 days. If we didn't put him down, he would have died that day or by the next. It was something more serious then we thought. My vet said she has never had a kitten come in that sick before. I'm devestated, he was my first kitten ever and I had to lose him so young.

Jess, I'm so, so sorry. What a terrible, tragic thing to happen. I hope you take take some comfort fromthe fact that this kitten knew love for his short little life, and sadly, that's something a lot of cats & kittens don't experience. This is a good site to get comfort from a lot of people who truly understand what you're going through. Please continue to post here, and perhaps when the time is right, you'll be able to give that love to another deserving kitten. {hugs}}

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to think about to make me feel better....because he did have a fun little life, with lots of love, even though it was for a short period of time. I'm glad that I had him, even though I lost him this early. I'll be getting his ashes in a box. And I also got another kitten, just to help comfort me, and make me smile...although she doesn't take Kruegers place( that was his name, aka Freddy lol) She's 41/2 months, but she's beautiful, and so afectionate...she was born in the Humaine Society and lived there till yesterday. Her names Magenta.

Jess, that's wonderful, bless you for being brave enough to open your heart to another kitten so soon. No, you're quite right, she'll never take Krueger's place, but she'll help you heal and make you laugh. I still hope you'll continue to post here on TDK and join in some of the chattier threads, it's a great community, with lots of fun and laughter. Oh, and we'd love to see some pictures of Magenta of course!!

Jess, I'm sorry to hear that Krueger didn't make it. I'm glad you were able to provide him some comfort and love in his short life; there are so many kittens out there who aren't half so fortunate!
I hope we get to hear more about Magenta as she settles in with you and your family.
