I discovered this morning that the mother cat who I took in as a feral had thrown up large quantities of dry food. When I took the rug outside to wash it off with the hose there were long stringy pink things (1 1/2") under the food. I tried to wash them off because I thought they were rug fibers but now I'm thinking that they are actually worms. ICK, what kind are they are how will I treat the kitty? She isn't tame enough for me to give her a pill. I could treat her with a liquid that is put on her food?

Worms?

my first instinct is to say those were not worms. However the only worms I have seen look like rice and move. Can you get her to a vet?

I'm going to take her baby this morning. I'm hopeful that there is a liquid that I can give the mother. We have been trying to trap her for days to take her to be spayed with no luck. She is very WISE. I found on the internet that they are roundworms, long pink spaghetti like, uck!

roundworms? oh man. I hope you can give her something. Poor baby. Let us know what the vet suggests. Hopefully she will let you medicate her somehow.

There are liquid de-wormers available for roundworm, but the trick is whether or not the mama will eat the food.
If all else fails... bait the trap with tuna, mixed with the wormer.

Poor Mama...Those feral mamas are slick little gals. I sure hope you're able to get her some worm meds. Bless you for all you're trying to do for these furbabies. Don't give up on trapping Mama...you'll want to at times but we'll always be here to lift you up! Hugs and prayers dktagirl!

she has roundworms those are the only ones that can be thrown up. Get some real stinky wet food and mix it into that. My mom uses the meat baby foods for her feral momma.

You can take the "worm" to the vet so he/she can identify it and give you the correct medicine.

If mama cat has roundworms, then her kittens and any other ferals in the area probably have them too. Hopefully the vet can suggest something that you can mix with food and the cats in the area will get medicated.

Hello again, I took the baby kitty to the vet this morning to get his first shot and he was given a product to deworm him. When I take him back for the second shot they will treat him again. It was very simple and very inexpensive. The veterinarian squirted the meds into his mouth. Now that takes me to mama. I don't think that technique will work for us as administering anything orally to her is probably off the table. He suggested using tuna fish as a mask for the odor of the worm treatment. I'm planning to try that tonight when I have a can of tuna fish to work with. I'll let you know how it goes. I see that some of you have great ideas too similar to this. I'll update when I've tried to treat her.

We found some 8-1 Premium Wormer at WalMart that you pour on dry food. I put very little food in the bowl today for the mama. She usually eats dry food overnight so I'm hoping that she eats it all over night. I didn't put the usual amount out. It suggests that you retreat in about 10 days.

Good for you dkta,
BTW the little worms that look like rice are tape worms from fleas.
Two doses will usually eradicate them.Posted 3 years ago by artistabobbi TX 1/17 #
