SM, I just read on the night shift that Basil is sick. How is he today? Please keep us updated and know that he is in my prayers and sending white light to the precious baby.

I only saw that this morning, as well, Soxsmom. We're keeping Basil, and you, in our prayers.

He has feline leukemia. When he was diagnosed 17 months ago the vet wanted to put hom down. Especially since Teaser is FeLv negative. I said no he is not sick I will not kill him. I took him home and found a FeLv support group. Not that I interact with that group near as much as this group. I did however learn a lot. It was decided that I would have a mixed home. Others have done so successfully. When the first year went by and there were no symptoms I thought we might be in the clear. A week ago I noticed the weight loss. His appetite is way down. He can't jump and this eyes are dulling. He still has pink gums. I know the outcome of this virus. I was just very hopeful that he would live a long time.

Oh, SoxsMom, I am so sorry! But Basil has had a happy life that he would not have had without you. I know that doesn't make it any easier, though.

SM, I hope you're able to help Basil enjoy the life he has left. Basil will let you know if he's not able to go on any longer.
My heart goes out to you.

He is 5 years old. Way to young to die. I don't think there is much more I can do. I have cared for FeLv positive cats for so long and there is never a happy ending. Menden was 16 when he passed. Sox was 9 months. Basil was doing so good that I truly thought he would live much longer. I am waiting to hear back from the vet. My vet is very old fashioned and wanted to put Basil down 17 months ago. I refused--he wasn't sick. I know that if the cortisone and the new antibiotic don't turn things around quick he will pass in a matter of days.

Please God, help Basil and his family through this difficult time. If you need Basil with you, please let his passing be peaceful and please give his family the strength and the peace to get through his loss.
SM, Basil is loved and he gives love. He and your family are blessed to have each other. ((hugs))

SoxsMom...I'm sooo sorry for this! I just don't understand this disease. Years ago..when the vaccine first came out I had a cat who tested pos. too and was not sick. The vet kept her at the office as he experimented with extreme nutrients and kept re-testing Baily. Eventually she came up with a neg. reading and he was able to vaccinate her. I'm praying for Basil...I so hope he stays strong. Prayers and white light to you and Basil! {{{{hugs}}}}
