  2. I don't understand...Is this the cat's owner whom she'd been lost from...or is this her adoptive family?

  3. Is that her new home or a foster home?

  5. NEWS STORY

I have to gripe though. I really do feel sorry for the lady facing foreclosure, but that is no excuse to abandon an animal. She should have taken him to a shelter. As the people, we are responsible for our fur kids.

  6. Poor Powder! How could anyone have a beautiful boy like this and just turn him loose into the cold cruel world? That's abandonment! Isn't that punishable by law? I don't care what a person's problems are..their pets are their family and should never be lost to fate! Grrrrrrrrr!

  7. Poor Big Baby..how you turn him out on the streets.. I'm not sure I understand completely...she is not getting him back is she????

  8. I don't know 2b...I sure hope not! Anyone who would just open their door and say Good Luck to a long time family pet..just doesn't deserve to have him!

  9. I don't think the owner should get this kitty back if they are so willing to abandon it. Thinking very unfluffy thoughts at this moment. I hope the shelter can find it a more deserving home where they will take care better care of Prince Chunk.

  10. I feel like calling the shelter just to make sure they don't allow this woman to get the Chunk back after being so cruel..If it were a child she would be in jail for sure..she should be!!

  11. The story I think indicates Prince Chunk is still up for adoption, with future dates at adoption shows. The woman,in no way, shape or form should be allowed to have her cat back & should be fined for abandoning him the way she did.

It's pitiful that in this day & age that anyone should be embarrassed to relinquish an animal to a shelter for reasons of foreclosure. And that's what she should've done in the first place. At least he wasn't hurt in the short time he was on the loose.

  12. An update:
    44-Pound Cat Finds New Home

BLACKWOOD, N.J. (CBS) ― A hefty 44-pound cat found wandering
southern New Jersey is said to be living large in a new home.

A Garden State family reportedly adopted the 44-pound feline. The
new owners were selected from more than 100 applications.

Vince Damiani at the Camden County Animal Shelter said workers there
had nearly 150 applications to consider before deciding on a family to adopt.

Powder's previous owner had to give him up because she lost her home
and could no longer take care of him.

  13. I've heard that some animal shelters are starting programs to foster pets whose owners are losing their homes. I think the idea is to foster them for some period of months to give their owner a chance to get new housing and return them or after a certain period of time, free them for adoption. I hope the idea spreads far and wide!

Powder is lucky that he had so many who wanter him!

  14. Just to set the record straight, "Chunk"'s former owner did NOT abandon him. When she was evicted due to foreclosure, she found what she thought were furr-ever (albeit separate) homes for Chunk and his sister. The new owners of Chunk's sister are apparently responsible, as they have not been in the news. It was Chunk's new owners, supposed "friends" of the original owner (who has since publicly rejected continuing friendship with them) who turned Chunk out on the street. Much as the original owner wanted Chunk back, she is still not in a position where she can own and/or maintain a cat. Sad all the way around, but thank God for all those who wanted to give Chunk a REAL furr-ever home.

Here's hoping the other 149 homes will adopt some other kitty in a shelter. Wouldn't THAT be a legacy?

  15. That would be so great if the 149 people did adopt a kitty too :)

  16. My fear was that everyone wanted to adopt Chunk just because he was in the news and probably will be for awhile. And I think he may hold the world record now being the heaviest cat? So some people may think they will make money off of him or just get themselves on T-V. I just pray who ever got him will love him and be good to him. Such a sad story.

  17. I'm just glad he got a new home. Bless his 'chunky' heart.

  18. Thanks Gatakitty for setting the record straight about Chunks former owner. I too read that she did not abandon him but gave him to friends who were supposed to take care of him.

Well, this answers the question of whether any other kitties found a home because of the portly prince. I guess I don't understand this. Did they want this kitty because it was a 'celebrity', because they felt sorry for him or what? Maybe the answer is to give more homeless kitties their 15 minutes of fame......
