  1. Claws crossed and tail wrapped around my legs too Ginny. Positive thoughts coming your way. Just found out my eldest daughter has got a job after hunting for some months. She never let on to us just how many interviews she was going to but there were plenty. After she finished her degree she couldn't find work for a year other then part time in a cafe. The firm she was just working for are moving to another town but she is settled where she is. She is going from running quality control and taste testing honey to checking bull semen for deformities. Hope she remembers not to taste.

  4. She checks that the "product" is free from deformed sperm etc so it can be used in artificial insemination. She is getting closer to her preferred career in genetics.

  5. ok...I got that part, but was just wondering HOW you find out it's deformed...DNA? and may I say WOW! Your daughter sounds quite brilliant!

  6. I don't raelly know all the ins and outs of it Linda, only just found out last night that she has the job. She is a happy girl today even if she has to take a pay cut. she was doing her masters on algae and cyano bacteria that form blooms on lakes etc until she got sick and couldn't continue. I think she's brilliant. They both are actually, but I may be biased.

  9. MS, that is big business here in TX. Seems that bovine genetic testing facilities are in every hamlet here. Your daughter would never hurt for work.

Around these parts "AI" has nothing to do with Artificial Intelligence--it stands for "Artificial Insemination," and it's for cows only.

  17. Hoping you hear back soon re: job in detention center, GK.

Posted 1 year ago by BlkCatInCarolina #

  18. The detention center wants me--I should be able to start filling out paperwork next week. Bad thing is, I don't earn income 'til I clear Homeland Security--which can take from 1-3 mos.

On top of that, the State of Texas in its infinite wisdom (NOT!), decreed that I could go without getting paid for an entire month, then let me know about it 4 days after I was supposed to get the first benefits check. We're already out of money, and there are 3 more weeks until Hubby gets paid again. Of course I appealed, but by the time that process gets worked out, the month will have passed. GRRRRRRRR!

I did interview today for a job working with expelled inner-city students. The neighborhood is downright scary and pay is less than I made in the hinterlands, but it's only a temporary job until the end of the semester in Dec. I might take it just to get some income until Homeland Security clears me. I've got until Fri. to decide what to do--that is, if they offer me the job in the first place.

Meanwhile, I batten down the hatches and wait out Ike. Buzzard luck--cain't kill nothin', cain't find nothin' dead.

  19. Oh GK...I will continue to pray for!! I can't believe they think that people can go a month or more without pay??? must be nice to have the kind of saving the ones how thought this up obviously do!!! Stay safe!!

  20. Not the best of news Ginny. Sorry the move is not working so well. I wouldn't want to work with that bunch--wait my kids could be your future kids!! Sorry not very funny. I will continue to pray that something better comes much sooner rather than later. Hope the kids are adjusting to the new school. Ginny you are strong and will weather this storm the same as you will weather the actual storm--with grace. Please stay safe and know how valued you are.

  21. Sorry about the bad new from the State of Texas. When one needs help, they seem to take their time on notifying you if you qualify and then by the time they notify you that you do not qualify, you are basically screwed. It is the same in Calf with unemployment benefits. Takes them 2-3 weeks to determine if you are eligible and then it takes them another two weeks to send out the check. So you are waiting at least 4-6 weeks before you get the first check and by then when you do get it, it is so low of amount that you are behind on rent, bills, and no money left for food. They say we must have at least six months of savings in the bank for unemployment but I have heard of people being out of work for a year! Our systems need to be revamped.

I understand in Europe that even though their taxes are high, they at least get good value for them. I was once told that if you are unemployed in Sweden, that the benefits are so good, there is no need to worry about finding a new job. I wonder if that is still true.

Thinking positive that something good turns up for you Gatakitty! Sending prayers too.
