I wrote an appeal for prosecuting in Florence horse case, and it bothers me because I don't know the American etiquette. In a case like this how you call the recipient (whose sex and title is not known)? Do you send greetings? How concise should you be?

I usually write either:
To Whom it may Concern or Dear Sir/MadamHope that helps :)

How about..Attention Prosecuting Attorney..KW will know! :D I agree with CM though that often To Whom It May Concern is used. I personally did send an email regarding this case and I used Attention Prosecuting Attorney...I'm sure it's politically incorrect but felt the message was more important than searching for the attorney's name. My bad..I know..If I didn't do it then...it wouldn't have gotten done in the stream of my day.
Shady says.."You..Yeah You" *sitting Shady down for a lecture* :(
