  4. Yeesh. Still, that poster of him in his little Speedo with all of his gold medals around his neck was hot.

  5. I hope he gets a nose bleed from that high petalstool he has himself on.
Or as my Mom used to say, his nose is so high in the air, if it rains, he'll drown!

  6. I remember reading somewhere that he was just horrible to deal with when they took the pictures for that famous poster of him with his medals. It's weird the things you'll remember, but I haven't liked him since then. I almost want to say I saw it in Sport Illustrated, but it was so long ago who knows where I read it?

  7. If this is a true and accurate quote;
"They voted me one of the top five Olympians in all time. Some of them are dead. But they invited the other ones to go to the Olympics.", then I would say he is justified in being upset, even though he is somewhat stuck on himself.

I wonder if that's the whole story, though. It just seems a little odd unless he has done something to make him persona non grata. Maybe he told the Olympic committee he wouldn't come unless they paid for everything and gave him VIP treatment.

  9. The higher they get, the longer and harder the fall.
    Too bad.

  10. As a Texan, I'm insulted. This is NOT an ego the size of Texas. This is an ego the size of ALASKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and he has about as much warmth, too.

  11. I thought the same thing Ginny - Alaska.....

  12. Sounds like they made the right decision not to invite him!
Did anyone hear how Phelps speaks so nicely of his Mom; hopefully a true testament to his character.

  13. I hate arrogance, love the humble.
But, I must admit {cheeks turning red}, if I won seven gold medals in the olypmpics, I don't think I'd ever shut up about it.
"pass the salt, oh, and have you scene my medals"

  14. I love Phelps, i cry everytime he swims. Even if it's just a qualifying swim. I think the mom thing gets me for sure!

  15. Spitz said. "He reminds me of myself."

Sorry Mark, but Michael has something that you seem to be lacking--CLASS!

  16. You know how they fill Olympic swimming pools?

    Mark Spitz!

(sorry, couldn't resist a large helping of ham, vintage 1972!)

  17. Or you could say he just lacks "CL" he has the rest of it.

  18. He was so borderline ugly 4 years ago when Phelps fell short, that I am guessing that is why they didn't ask him to come. It is sad that with 7 gold medals, Spitz has become a bitter person.

  19. *snorts at Ginny* Thank goodness you guys stood up for Texas. Gosh, if I didn't know better, I would think that he is of stinking French descent!!! (no, I haven't gotten over them not allowing us into France!)

  20. My apologies to the Texans among us ;)

There will always be someone bigger, better, faster... whatever. It would be in his best interest to be proud of what he accomplished and accept that the world moves on. He still has a right to be proud of what he did. Just don't feel he needs to be so arrogant about it.

  21. Does anyone remember Tiny Tim? *shudders* And how, in his marriage vows to Miss Vicki on the Tonight Show, promised not to be "puffed up"? Mark could use that vow!

*goes off to scrub hands for even having typed the words Tiny Tim....*

  22. WWM.... Tiptoe through the tulips....

    (Ducks for cover and runs!)

  23. Bringing up Tiny Tim???????????? And planting an earworm??????

WWM and KyKat, there is a special place in Hell for people like you!

Posted 3 years ago by gatakitty #

  24. lol, now the song 'Tiptop through the tulips....' is stuck in my head, THANKS!!! j/k yes ego's get in the way sometimes, fools!

  25. Hey, maybe the second place finishing French ( "we're going to smash them, that's what we came here for" team!!) team can invite him as their guest of honor. I think WWM is right, Spitz would fit right in with them.

Posted 3 years ago by Tigerlilly #

  26. "I, Tiny Tim, take you, Miss Vicki, to be my somewhat lawfully wedded wife. And I do promise to never be puffed up....." Like what can you be puffed up about when you are Tiny Tim and your whole claim to fame is a ukulele?

*runs for mouth wash having uttered the words Tiny Tim......*

  27. Hmmmm hmmmm. Tiptoeeeee throught the tulipsssss with meeeeee.

  28. No matter what Spitz was a great swimmer. It is truly said that he has to take this attitude. I would have loved for him to be there to see that you don't have to flaunt yourself around as the greatest to be the greatest. I sure would like to see Phelps make a sweep of it!
