Sake Martini and Salmon Taco

(24 posts)
  1. I was watching a fab local cooking show last night-Sam the Cooking Guy-and he made both of these which sound tasty. Thought I'd share.

    Sake Martini:
    2 ounces Vodka
    1 ounce sake
1 splash Grand Marnier, or any orange liquer
    Ice
1 small wedge of fresh orange

Add some ice to a cocktail shaker and pour in the vodka, sake and Grand Marnier
    Shake well
Add fresh ice to a glass and pour in martini
Squeeze the orange wedge into the drink and drop in
    Enjoy
    *****
    Salmon Taco:
4 green onions, white & light green parts only, sliced into thin shreds
1/4 cup jicama, sliced into thin shreds
1/4 pound salmon fillet without the skin, cut into small pieces
    3 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
    1/2 tablespoon Asian chili paste
    2 corn tortillas
    Peanut oil

Combine green onions and jicama into a "slaw" and set aside
Also mix Hoisin and chili paste in a small bowl and set aside
Preheat a skillet or wok well on fairly high heat - also preheat a nonstick skillet to heat the tortillas
Add 1 teaspoon peanut oil, then the salmon and cook quickly until still a bit moist inside
Heat the tortillas in the nonstick skillet
Spread some sauce on the each tortilla, top with salmon and thenn some of the jicama slaw - eat

  5. Hecks yayah! I could go for either of those! However, I would put the salmon in unsliced just long enough to sear it. I would slice it prior to putting it in the tortillas.

  8. Mmmmmmmm! The Salmon Taco sounds very good..but the Sake Martini scares me! :D

  9. Martini????? Did you say martini, Linda???? Well, normally I wouldn't, but maybe just this once...... :-)

I have made fish tacos and they were yum. Being from Texas, it was a hard concept for me to get around since fish isn't normally what you find in a taco in these parts. But, they were delicious. I think that I would leave the salmon intact to cook it, as well.

I don't have any Asian chili paste. I wonder if something could be substituted? I hate buying stuff that I don't use very often just to have 1/2 TBL.

  10. Scares you Karen? why?

WWM, I think you could use any hot sauce or try it with some chili powder? He is big on using what you have...

    We have Rubio's restaurants here...very big...Baja style...

  11. We have a restaurant here that does shrimp tacos, and they are amazing. Best of all, I don't feel guilty eating them because there's nothing unhealthy in there. Which means that I can have two Margarita's!!! (hey - it's fruit juice, right?)

Karenopa, sake doesn't have just a ton of flavor on its own. Well, it does, but it's very subtle. I think the orange liqueur is what you would mostly taste.

  12. MM, I think we're having fish tacos for dinner tonight. I hope you don't object.

  14. who else is coming over?

  15. I AM!!!! I wonder if my boss will object if I leave early to fly to Oklahoma?
You're only 2 hours ahead of California, aren't you? I should probably stay for a week or three to try all MeezerRoboto's alcoholic concoctions...your A/C is fixed now, right? ;) hee

  16. It is fixed. And yes, 2 hours earlier here. No spare room, but the couch folds out:)

  17. Oh, that's a shame that your meal did not work out the way you'd hoped MeezerRoboto! You are much more adventurous in your cooking than I am!

But this thread has got me thinking about Mexican food again...TACOS! *said in Homer Simpson voice, complete with drooling*

Linda - you reminded me of Rubio's - YUM! There is a Rubio's and a place called Baja Fresh (or something like that) in Rancho Bernardo where my mom lives! I will definitely make it a point to go there next time I visit my mom!

  18. He's usually successful in his attempts too. This was an anomaly

  19. Aw, MeezerRoto - the concept was good! Actually, we're having fish tacos tonight so I'll learn from your mistakes. I'm going to grill the fish, though.

Although I love to cook, I've had more than my shares of disasters. Just ask my husband about the stuffed flank steak that I made as a newly wed. Yuck is way too nice of a word!

  20. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, MeezerRoboto! It was an excellent try and sounds like it will be quite delicious. (peanut oil...doesn't impart taste and has a high smoking point :))

  21. You get 'A' for effort Michael...Who Knew? I know the next time it will be all you imagine it to be. I personally don't step into the kitchen...leaving the creative cooking to Jeff. You guys just seem to have this flair! :D

  22. '(peanut oil...doesn't impart taste and has a high smoking point :))'

Yeah, but how do you keep it lit?

  23. That taco sounds like to die for!
