  1. Hi everybody! Greetings from TN. I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have been lurking in the background. I need a little help from all of you- my two cats, now 1 1/2 yrs old have discovered the pleasures of unravelling and shredding the toilet paper. I don't like this new behavior and want to stop it PRONTO. Any ideas? I haven't caught them in the act yet, so I don't know if one or both of them is doing it. They couldn't possibly be bored! They have each other, plus tons of toys. I am going to Walmart for cat supplies (food, litter) and will check back in later for any responses. Thanks.

  2. Hi Jadete,I have to put my TP in the cabinet because one of my kitties(jasper) finds it so very FUN to shred . I don't know how to really stop it besides closing the door so he can't get to it or putting the TP away.

  3. It's all your fault, Jadete!

  4. Jadete, Mavvy is a TP shredder. I just keep the bathroom doors closed. It's the only thing that's worked.

  5. None of our cats shred, but Linus only wants water out of the leaky tap in our master bath (stinkin' Delta faucet with the specialized doo-dads that always fail).

When he jumps on the counter, he leaves dirty paw prints and water that has dripped on his head EVERYWHERE!

I have to either keep that door closed or clean the bathroom 4-5 times a day.

  6. Jadete, you can keep the bathroom door closed or you can try something I heard of. You can take a washrag and wrap it around the toilet paper and pin it until they quit playing with it. I don't know if it works, I just read it somewhere. When you're gone or asleep, it might be better to just shut the door. :) Good luck.

  7. Jadete, I had to hide the TP from Sylvester when he was a kitten. Thankfully he has grown out that bad habit that he learned from another kitty. I am really glad Mia has no interest in the TP. Her fascination lies in the bathtub.

  8. Sylvester NEVER had any bad habits (he reminds me so much of Sebastian). ((Sylvester))

  9. Hahahaha! Jadete...my Oreo occasionally gets in the mood to shred. Closing the bathroom door helps but if she comes across a roll of tp or papertowels just sitting somewhere in the house...It's On!! She's a master shredder. I think she does it out of boredom or simply to flex her muscle to the others. lol! Good Luck and remember your kitties have company in this messy, destructive sport. :D

  10. It's always "cute" when you catch them doing the unrolling and shredding thing, but I can understand it will eventually turn into a problem!! Can't think of anything but closing the door to the bathroom, sorry!
Max has just recently started taking used Kleenex out of the waste paper baskets, but he doesn't shred them, he just tosses them around and plays with them and I find them in the middle of the room in the morning. I hope they are dry when he picks them up-yuck!

  11. MMM, Maverick does that too. I went home yesterday and found a paper towel in the middle of the bed. He'd been laying on it.

  12. Sneakers is a master shredder. Not just TP but also paper towels. We've opened a new 4-pack before to find that all four rolls have been partially torn up. I keep the bathroom door closed now. Cheetah did the same thing, but he grew out of it.

  13. One of my sons cat is a master shredder as well..He opened the bathroom cupboard and went to town on one of those big economy size packs...lol now he keeps the bathroom door shut.

  14. Master Shredder....isn't that a cartoon character?

Posted 3 years ago by HuddysMama #

  15. Jadete, we had a cat that used to do that and my husband turned the toilet paper roll around so you had to put your hand up under the back side of the roll to pull the paper. Apparently when Sox would put his paw on the front, and the roll rolled it wouldn't roll out on the floor so I guess it wasn't as entertaining for him anymore.

  16. Thierry has never been a shredder, but if I leave the cabinet door ajar he will get into the box of tampax and get one out, carry it around until he gets bored and then go back for another one! I have come home to find them all over the floors and him batting one around like it is the best toy ever! I have gotten to where I put the box at the back and put something on top of it, just in case.

  17. KYKAT, I guess it could be worse, Thierry could've drug out your underwear to play with! lol Imagine coming home and opening the door to find your lingerie strewn about the house and you had company with you! :)

  18. Oh my KyKat,tampons everywhere? LOL

  19. Yes Huddy's mama, Master Shredder is the cartoon character from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I think he played the bad guy.

  20. Bitsy has learned the fine art of paper shredding. If anyone has any suggestions (other than closing the doors) I'ld be happy to hear about it, too.
Last night, he discovered the paper towel holder!
He's so cute, I just can't get mad at him. Can't pin wash cloths on EVERY roll of tp......

  21. Thanks, Renee. I kinda thought so *looks at her Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures*

  22. I never had a shredder, but a friend did. She stuck a rolled up wash cloth between the roll and the wall, jammed it in there so it wouldn't spin. Depending on what kind of dispenser you have, just jam something somewhere so it can't spin. When the kitties would go to play and discovered it wouldn't unravel anymore they lost interest. Eventualy completly forgetting the toilet paper ever existed. She only had to do this for aout a week. Kind of a pain everytime you have to go to the bathroom, but worth the effort.

  23. Deuter is the shredder KING!! If you find a way to stop yours please let me know. Nothing has worked here. I finally gave him his own roll--he seems pleased!

  24. When Bella liked to shred the tp, we just draped the hand towel from the sink over the roll... she grew out of it, but indulges in a good shred every once in awhile, so then we keep the towel over it again for a few days until she forgets about it. She was the only cat we had that was a shredder :)

  25. My cat Tristie shreds the TP and the paper towels. Unfortunately, he taught Wolfie to do it also. I have no advice since it happens here too.

  26. I think we have stumbled upon a new Olympic event???

Posted 3 years ago by 4 kits staff #

  27. Came home went into my bedroom...and the GOLD goes to Deuter Bug!!! He has the tp unrolled and strung all over the place!! He must have read this while I was gone. I thought Teaser was the only cat that read in this house--wrong again!

  28. Sox's mom, you should've took a picture and entered it in the 2008 Cat Olympics that I posted. They were accepting new enteries. :)

Posted 3 years ago by Renee in Arkansas #

  29. I've never had a cat that unrolled tp but I had a cousin who used to do it. My mom broke her of that!
