  2. Add I will even make the first entry

Calendar kitty with eyes of blue
    From the painter of sky
    was stolen this hue
    That must explain why
    Out my window it’s gray
    Zander’s hypnotic gaze
    Is what I needed today

This site represents cat poems written by French children - unfortunately(!?) in French.

  5. if it's ok with u i'm going to leave a poem:

    Kitty, Kitty
    nose so small
    ears so furry
    tail so long
    won't you be my friend

    the world may fight
    and hate
    and sigh
    but you show me
    a love
    one of a kind

    Kitty, Kitty
    I love you too
    you show me kindness
    in a world
    full of hate

    thats why Kitty Kitty
    I love you

  6. I'm not a poet, and I can't take credit for this one, but I like it. You may have seen it before, but it's cute.

    A Cat's Prayer
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray this cushy life to keep.
I pray for toys that look like mice,
And sofa cushions, soft and nice.
I pray for gourmet kitty snacks,
And someone nice to scratch my back,
For window sills all warm and bright,
For shadows to explore at night.
I pray I'll always stay real cool
And keep the secret feline rule--
    To NEVER tella human that
The world is really ruled by CATS!

  13. For all things fluffy
    I thank the Lord
When the world makes me huffy
    or when I'm just bored
I can come see the kitten
    And chat with my friends
    From California to Britain
    Love through a fluffy lens

  14. Prayer of a Siamese

Thank you Lord, for giving me
A mommy as sweet as sweet can be,
    A fluffy brother who's rotund;
And now, a money market fund?

Posted 4 years ago by Emma #

  15. "money market fund"? That was unexpected! Good one!

  18. The Stray

Yellow eyes that watch so intently
    Half close guarding mysterious thoughts
Ominous eyes focus on the kill
In darkness the silent cat hunts

    Hapless victim in your claws
A meager meal for the night
Back to the den found in an abandoned place
    Slinking back to hide

A wish for a warm place with no enemies
Safety is nothing but a dream
Still dignity cannot be taken from you
Shivering as you curl up to sleep

The streets are what you have for a home
Though I wish you would come to me
I'd open my door, take you in my arms
Give you a safe place to sleep

Oh stray cat I watch every night
Do you know how much I love you
I long to give you a safe home to live
And to hold you as you purr

    I wish you would trust
    I wish you would understand
Until then I can only watch and pray
And hope that you will come home to me

  19. owlwatcher, thank you for sharing that wonderful poem....sounds like you have been watching a special one

Posted 4 years ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  20. Actually, it's just something I came up with just a few minutes ago. It started as I was looking into Shiva's yellow eyes then turned into something different. I just started thinking of all the strays that I used to feed and worked so hard to tame until they became my cats.

  21. my second patio cat has the strangest yellow eyes, and since he came inside 3 days ago and has made himself quite at home, your poem fit to a tee! Believe he was a throw-away or just got lost from his family somehow, because he is quite at home being inside.

Posted 4 years ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  22. Owlwatcher, that brought tears to my eyes. I wish all cats could have a loving home. I feel so full of despair that they don't.

  23. My favorite cat poem.

    The Cat and the Moon

The cat went here and there
And the moon spun round like a top,
And the nearest kin of the moon,
    The creeping cat, looked up.
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,
For, wander and wail as he would,
The pure cold light in the sky
    Troubled his animal blood.
    Minnaloushe runs in the grass
    Lifting his delicate feet.
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?
    When two close kindred meet,
What better than call a dance?
    Maybe the moon may learn,
    Tired of that courtly fashion,
    A new dance turn.
    Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
    From moonlit place to place,
    The sacred moon overhead
    Has taken a new phase.
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils
Will pass from change to change,
And that from round to crescent,
From crescent to round they range?
    Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
    Alone, important and wise,
And lifts to the changing moon
    His changing eyes.

  24. AZDEBRA did you see my post about our new kitty, Oliver?
We think he was a drop off too. He picked our house and
    is here to stay.

  25. "if I were rich enough

    I'd follow Autumn everywhere

Paint my home in Shelley's orange

    and brown and hectic red;

    rub tincture of turning leaves

onto my own limbs to motley

    my skin into a panoply

    of hues; buy potted trees

and fill my darkened rooms with them,

    inject them full of October

until I lay ankle deep in fallings..."

Bret Rutherford/Dead Leaves the Emblems Truest

as collected in Anniversarium: The Autumn Poems

  26. Love them all, but mostest of all MMM's!

I have no time to compose right now, will try to come up with something later.

  27. Little cat of golden fur,
How I love to hear you purr.
You look at me with amber eyes,
As if to say, "I am so wise."
And when you saunter through the house,
    I never fear I'll see a mouse.
Little cat, my heart you mend,
    Please stay awhile
    And be my friend.

  28. Lovely, sullis! :-)

Posted 3 years ago by Catwoman #

  29. Oh that was lovely, Sullis! Maybe now that Ivory Bill has found us again, he will treat us to some of his poetry? As was the fall poem, reminds me of why this is my favorite season; the intense blue of the sky, the bright yellow of the cottonwoods, the rustle of the leaves as they fall....and then a moment of sadness as I recall that poignant scene from Bambi when the two leaves are discussing falling...
