  1. Hi all,

After the SVP at the company where I am temping had reassured my boss several weeks ago that our group wouldn't be touched by lay off...well, that has changed as of today.

My boss, Executive Director has just been laid off. I think there are more layoffs to come so this means my temp assignment may be in jepardy as well.

I am scrambling to find another temp assignment.

Apple extended an offer to someone else as of yesterday and HNTB hasn't gotten back to me regarding setting up a second interview. All of a sudden, all my options have dried up at the moment and I am running scared.

Oh boy...this is so not what I needed right now. I am ready to cry.

  2. Oh Karin, that sucks. Cry if you need to, head to the restroom and let it out, then back to your desk. Been there, done that. Positive energy coming your way pronto!

  3. Oh Karen, I wish I had something wonderful to say to make this all better but alas, I don't. Keep your chin up honey, better things have to come soon. Everything is always in cycle and motion. When things swing totally to the negative side of life, they have to eventually swing back to the other side. Your time will come, please have faith in that. Prayers, hugs, and purrs to you.

  4. Yes, but when it pours...and boy is it pouring for me right now. Everything is going to hell in a hand basket for me. Holy Crap!!

  5. One of my favorites.... no rain, no rainbows. Think of the beauty that is waiting for you after this storm. You WILL come out of this stronger. We all hope and pray that is sooner rather than later.

  6. Breath, honey. It's OK. Oddly enough, you may be OK as a temp since you're not "part of the problem" (whatever hypothetical problem is causing them to lay off people). It's good that you're looking around just in case, but try not to panic before it's time. *hugs*

  7. Oh Karin that's scary. I'm sorry

  8. I am praying that you do not get laid off Karin. My thoughts are with you. Hang in there. Love Lynn

  9. If you need to cry, honey, I've got a cyber shoulder.

Let's look at it this way...........you are probably going to be innundated with offers as soon as you get a permanent job. In the mean time, keep looking up, and keep passing open windows.

    Much love,

  10. Have faith, Karin. Things happen for a reason ---- it's darkest before the dawn. Hang on to that!

Posted 4 years ago by Jo in Blairsville #

  11. Karin, I agree with JenniferSigman. Since you are so worried, you've got to work on some good karma, girl. Do some good for someone for no reason (random acts of kindness). It can't hurt! You're safer than the established staff, absolutely, as long as you keep your head down. If you don't have enough to do, ask for more, or help out a stressed staffer. Keep positive, and positive things will happen.

  12. Karin, yes to all the above. Especially brandilee's "go get an ice cream". Have you been to Ciao Bella Gelato? Lots of locations in SF. Marvelous stuff.

  13. I need a mountain of chocolate on top of mocha java chip ice cream at this point and time. I just checked with my temp agency and they said not to worry that they will help me find another assignment if this one is not going to continue. Yes it gets darkest before the storm but this whole year has been one thing after another and I thought that at least I could get through till next January job wise while I searched for a permanent job. Most employers do not like you unless you are already working. I am so tired of all of this. I feel like I am being punished for turning down the Seagate job and not pursuing the five month temp assignment at Adobe. I just checked via email with the Adobe onsite temp agency and they do not have anything at this time. Oh I need a primal screaming room right now or at least someone close by who will hold me while I cry. Cannot cry right now as I have to hold it together while I am at work.

  14. Sweetheart, take a deep breath. Let it out. We're all praying for you over here.

  15. Do you have a sweater you take to work? I do. And when it gets to be too much I go into the file room and just scream my head off into said sweater.

I'm so sorry sweetie. Don't feel like you are being punished, things are just tough to deal with right now - it's a bump in the road. It WILL get better. I promise.

    *hugs*

  16. You virtual shoulders and arms here any time. I know they aren't as good as the real thing... the offer stands nonetheless. On the way home tonight, stop for that ice cream, scream into your pillow and then soak in a nice warm tub; candles, wine, chocolate, music - whatever comforts you.

  17. And hug your babies!!

  18. I am always relieved by this verse from the Bible:

'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

  19. From Charles Stanley's "LANDMINES"...The Landmine of FEAR:

    Steps to Overcoming Fear:

    Identify the fear.
Choose to lay it down by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Meditate on Isaiah 41:9-10 for three weeks, each night before bed. Ask God to reprogram your thinking while you sleep.
When the fear attacks you again, immediately refocus on God, taking your eyes off what you fear.
IV. Closing: Take a moment now to identify the tormenting fears you have. Before God, lay them down and trust Him to fulfill His promise to care for you. When you are tempted to fear again, choose to turn your focus to God.

  20. You can watch the entire Fear presentation at this link:

    http://www.intouch.org/site/c.dhKHIXPKIuE/b.2385541/k.3238/Encouragement_for_Your_Soul__Fear.htm

It really helped me. I was suffering from panic attacks and insomnia over my financial situation. I was at church when this was presented, did as he said (identified my fear out loud, turned it over to God by the power of the HS.) I have had fleeting moments of the fear, but not the paralyzing type of before. One of the points he made was that fear stifles creativity. This was true because I found it impossible to write at all then.

  21. Karin, have you considered a new career? Do you have education/experience which could help you change profession? That is just something to think about. You haven't been laid off yet and IF you will, you probably land on a new job in no time.
    Don't worry, honey, you will manage. You will. {hugs}

  22. Fear of the unknown is a big fear, but take heart, not just from the support you have here, but from your skills and the assurances you have from your temp agency. Register with as many others as you can, divide your eggs between as many baskets as possible! Also, I agree with those who said that you may actually be SAFER being a temp at this time in this company's reorganisation. I hope for some good news for you tomorrow xx

Posted 4 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  23. UGGGGH. How rotten. Overall, I agree that your job as a temp is safe, especially because you're actually doing things that the organization decided recently need to get done. So unless you're on a special project that is leaving when your boss leaves, I'd say you're as secure as anybody can be in this climate.

It seems like miseries all come at once instead of having the decency to space themselves out a bit or just not happen to good people, though, doesn't it?

    Hugs.

  24. Okay, 40 minutes till I can go home to my cats and hide from the world. Need to hug my cats. Unfortunately Sylvester isn't as affectionate as he was and of course Mia gives very small doses of affection. Poor Sylvester. What have I done to you. My karma will punish me for his having to accept another cat in our household. I need to hold and cuddle and cry in some cat fur. Neither one will tolerate that. I miss my first cat Whiskers who would have tolerated that. I really could use a real hug. Oh well. I really wish it was Friday.

Posted 4 years ago by SylvesterMiasMomma #

  25. Wish I could be there to give you a hug, too, Karin. Believe me, I'm in a pretty bad predicament now, too, and I can commiserate. But as I said before, I know God has a plan for me and I'm waiting patiently for him to let ME in on it!

  26. Karin, good advice all around. Hang tough, and know that we are only as far as your computer keys.
    Sending positive energy your way.
    Hugs and purrs.

  27. Karin -

Right this moment, you are ok. Breathe...Breathe... Slowly - just Breathe. Breathe in the positive things being sent your way by all of us, and by everyone who loves you. Breathe out the stress and the fear and the tension. Healing energy is flowing your way, and you WILL make it through this and to a much better place. You are strong enough to make it all work out, and you are not in this alone. Just breathe...

Posted 4 years ago by JanetinEllijay #

  28. Oh Karin - I'm so sorry! You don't need this extra worry right now on top of everything else! But I think the others are right - as a temp, you are probably safer than the actual employees. Hang in there - you know we are all here for you and are sending loads of positive energy and hugs your way!

  29. I just spoke with my Mom and she said that I seem to be doing all I can and that something will turn up. She suggested I apply to local community colleges as well as UC Berkeley as they are usually hiring. I think I will either have a job till the end of this week or next before they decide if they need me or not. One way or another, I will hopefully find another assignment. I just hope it doesn't take too long to land another one. At my level of pay, they all want to interview first and sometimes that doesn't mean you get the temp assignment. A door closes but somewhere a window opens. Trying to feel better. Thank you all for your kind support.

No alcohol here but I had a nice Trader Joe's Shepard's Pie and for desert, chocolate covered raisins. I will treat myself to a nice steak dinner at Black Angus this weekend. I deserve it after the crappy month I am having.
