  1. They deactivated my boss's email account yesterday and now he has me scrambling to get it reactivated so he can print his contact list. Hmmm...that should have been his first thing to do yesterday instead of packing up his office. I hope they will be able reactivate it because if they do not, he will be out all of his personal and business contacts.

I am sending out my resume to all my temp contacts and sending it to new temp agencies as well just in case they end my assignment tomorrow. I am applying to jobs and hoping to land a job soon. If they want to end my assignment, I am hoping I can negotiate so that I can keep it to the end of this month to buy some time for me to find another assignment. I am really hoping they will just transfer me over to one of the members on the team who is a Director. We will see. One can only hope.

  3. I know this is too late for your ex-boss, but there is this great website:

    http://ww2.ikeepbookmarks.com/home.asp

It allows you to keep all your bookmarks, etc. on a web-based locale that is either as public or as private as you like (as a teacher, the stuff on my page is public--we're always sharing stuff).

Meanwhile, Linus is paying you a virtual visit. He loves soft blankies, laps, and skritches under the chin and around the ears. His purr is very soft, as is his fur. He's a love hog and will curl his paw pads around your finger and "make bread" on you. The only reasons he'll leave are if he thinks there is action going on in the kitchen (the only thing he likes better than being loved is being fed) or if Baby Sally Semi-Meezer starts nipping on him (she teases him mercilessly). I made sure Sally is otherwise occupied, so the Love Muffin is all yours!

  4. Thank you Ginny. I appreciate a lovebug of a kitty. Sylvester was that way pretty much before Mia came and he is starting to get back to that stage (I miss it alot). Sylvester and Mia were more affectionate this morning which was much appreciated so I gave them some cat treats. Linus sounds like a wonderful kitty (shhh, don't tell Sylvester). I especially love a lapcat and one who makes "biscuits".

Boss is now gone and it is a bittersweet day for him. He didn't want to spend much time talking to me, no bad feelings about that as we only worked together for 2 1/2 months. I am taking one day at a time and am waiting with baited breath to see what happens tomorrow for me. Here is hoping they keep me on.

  6. Forgot to mention, one of the Directors came over to my desk this afternoon to ask me if I knew who I was now going to report to now. I said I didn't know. He said that I have been doing really great work and that they still need me to assist them. He said I would probably be reporting to another Director who is also an M.D. They said the admins always report to an M.D. This made me feel a whole heck of a lot better. It still is one day at time but if I can make to the end of this month, I will be very happy. That is my goal for now..to make it to the end of October.

    Group hug. Thank you all.

  14. Karin, work to get to know the new boss/bosses and any time you don't have enough to do, send an email saying "I an work in another project if you have something that needs attention." Being a self motivated go-getter never hurts. It is part of how I turned a temp job into a permanent one. Answering phones wasn't enough to keep me occupied and busy, so I started asking department heads if they had projects that I could do between phone calls. They hired me permanently and two years later when I got moved up the ladder to being a travel agent, they had to hire two people to replace me because I was able to get so much done. During those two years as a receptionist, I asked everyone to teach me things so that I would be a more valuable employee. It worked. I was a manager when I left that company to move back to Kentucky.

  15. Thanks for the info ppearson. I have done temporary work before and actually landed a job at a large computer firm back in 2001. I had been such a hard working enthusiastic worker that I had a good work reputation and the Sr Director at the time, asked me to apply for the permanent job which they hired me. I resigned from that job in 2005 when my cat was dying and I was stressed out from so much over-time and my cat dying at the age of 16 years 11 months. I have always treat each position with letting my manager and their team know that I am available for any projects they may be working on. I would have been hired at one or two of the places had they had the budget to hire me.

Here at my current temp assignment, I have had to send out an email asking for work several times. Since then, I have proven that I am technologically inclined and can do the job so they are giving more work to do. It was this that I think will help me get through the layoffs that occurred yesterday. So it looks like I will be here to finish out my temp assignment (till Jan 23rd, 2008) unless I receive a permanent job offer elsewhere. Hopefully by Jan, they may have lifted the hiring freeze. We will see.
