  1. How about Shaqueatha? ;)

*that's the name I give to all Starbuck's baristas when they ask me my name. I love the puzzled look they get on their face because they are clueless as to how to spell it!*

  2. Oh that's mean FH...but funny!!!

  3. Erm...I actually got the name Hester from a short story by Jilly Cooper, which just goes to show how culturally inept I am! ;-)

  4. Okay, promise me you won't name her LOUISE!!! She will be 80 before she grows into her name LOL! My suggestion is Anna Marie. Easy to spell and easy to say.

  5. Ah, somebody beat me to it!

I think that it's really important to name children with culturally consistent names. I still hate my parents for skipping over the name they were going to give me. My dad is Danish and our last name is Kjaer (pronounced care), and they were going to name me Kiesten (pronounced Key-es-tin) but my mom decided that everyone would call me Kirsten or Kristen and named me Erin instead.

I like my name, but Kiesten Kjaer would have been badass.

First names that match last names I think are really important, which should be interesting for me since my Fiance is Jewish.

What is your last name CM??

  6. Wonderful news CM! Congratulations!! A healthy baby sis for Maddie.

Before I started reading the thread, I thought 'Marina' would be a nice name. Sorry I'm late on that conversation.

Teresa is good too. You know Terri, Ouize & me. LOL!!!

  7. Well, I guess we could give you a break on the Hester thing, MCW. That is an American novel and maybe it's not well known there. Or, required reading like it is here.

    *shakes head and mutters "Hester"?????*

  8. MCW, never say never.. I am almost 40 and HELLO! so you never ever know. (but please not Hester!)
I used to work with someone who wanted to name her baby Hedwig. At the last moment she changed it. Thank god!

our last name is Barker. Pretty normal last name. I do love some of the names mentioned but some are off limits since we have connotations with that name.

My friend Terri has been lobbying for Therese :) Seems Teresa/Therese/a is popular

If anything we have Irish hertitage. I am more Irish/English, My mother's maiden name was Quinn and my maiden is Halstead.

Posted 3 years ago by cricketsmama #

  9. If you are Irish, then Erin would work nicely with your last name.

Posted 3 years ago by Catwoman #

  10. Irish - Brianna

Oh !! Name her for your mother's maiden name! Quinn !!

Mom always warned me to watch initials... using my maiden name, my initials were deb

  12. I also like Emma..always thought it was such a beautiful name, and now that I know our Emma, it's even prettier!!

    Posted 3 years ago by 2bpurring #

  13. I liked Quinn for a boy, he likes it for a girl.
Then we have his side of the family that might be hurt if we had my mom's name in there and not his moms...etc.
We have decided we are not naming the child after no one. Just what we like that way, no feelings are hurt, no one is excluded etc.

Posted 3 years ago by cricketsmama #

  14. Plus we do not want a common name. Too many Ashley's, Brittany's, Taylors...etc
(no offence to anyone), we want something like Madeline...there are some, but not so many where there is 12 in a class.

  15. Quinn is nice!! Marina Quinn Barker...

    Posted 3 years ago by 2bpurring #

  16. That's how I ended up a Jennifer - no-one else in the family had the name! If I'd been a boy I would have been Peter.

What about the female version of Peter, Peta? Or Petra?

Posted 3 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  17. Marina Quinn Barker is actually quite lovely!

Posted 3 years ago by Catwoman #

  18. My mom's name was Jane, when she was little they called her Jenny. Hence, I got named Jennifer. If I was a boy, I would have been David or Todd.

Posted 3 years ago by cricketsmama #

  19. Peta! MCW, I have NEVER heard of anyone else who even knew that name. My mothers name is Peta, and my grandmother was sure that she had made it up.

Posted 3 years ago by skirty #

  20. :-) skirty!

Peta means rock or golden eagle according to this site, which is quite interesting :

  26. I just talked to John and he says (are you ready for this?)

FISHIE LYNN BARKER! he says she would never get a ticket because the cops wouldn't be able to stop laughing long enough to write the ticket.

  27. I love the name Emma, but isn't it the most popular girls name out there? That means in 12 or so years, half of the girls in my classes will be Emma.

My sister's last name is Lane. My brother and I couldn't talk her into naming her son---Jack Lee :) (you older ones will get it!)

Posted 3 years ago by FondaHonda #

  28. *snickering at FH* Not that I'm older or anything.....

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  29. What was that Monty Python thing that included "Here,Fishie, Fishie, Fishie"?

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  30. First let me say...I love the name Fishie Lynn Barker!!! I also didn't realize Emma was back on the most popular again..it goes in and out, but I've always loved it...My sister, whos last name is Jones, would not name her daughter Indiana...good thing, several years later a little girl the same age moved to town with the name Indiana Jones.
