  1. Well, Mr. WWM should never leave me home alone because if something happens, and he's not here, guess who is???? Yep - all you guys!

One of our "babies" (not really - he's 23 now) who is an LT in our Army just called me. FROM IRAQ!!! I nearly fell over and was rendered temporarily speechless, which as you all know, is not an easy state for me to be in.

It's around 8:30 pm there and he was just calling to let us know that he's fine! *sobbing quietly into giant hankie but so that he can't hear* They are in Baghdad, but he says things are "quiet" except, as he said, "for the occasional IED". His second mom (me) didn't need to hear that, but he knows to stay sharp.

Anyway, he says his soldiers (82nd Airborne) are all good. Ready to come home, but good.

    May God Bless our Soldiers!

*running off to cry a bit more*

  5. So glad to hear that your son is fine!!! I don't blame you for crying. I do too when (very infrequently I might add- those silly boys) I hear from my sons.

  6. Well, he isn't really my son...... He does have blood parents :-) He's just one that we worked with beginning when he was a scrawny little freshman in high school. But he, and one other, call me "Mommy Dos". *sniff, honk* Me, having been a Vietnam bride, asked him if he has called his girlfriend (a relationship that he described to me as "looking pretty serious"). Silly me - he just laughed. Like yeah - he'd call us before her! Not hardly...

He said that today it was 120 degrees there. But he assured me that his tent has A/C! It doesn't work, but it has a unit sitting there!

  12. God bless our soldiers. I have been watching on HBO the mini series called Generation Kill. I am amazed at what they go through and have to put up with. So glad he and his buddies are all doing fine. May they all come home safe and in one piece. Hugs to you WWM.

  13. WWM - my prayers go with you and your son; I pray God keep both of you in His loving arms. Keep your son safe and bring him home soon! I have two sons of my own [they are in high school]and I cannot imagine how hard it is for you everyday and yet you still find your heart large enough to worry about the little kitties in the world - you really are a lovely person WWM :)

  16. You raised up a good boy, Betty. No wonder you love him.

And none of us wonders why he loves you!

  18. Awwwww...What a nice surprise WWM! "for the occaisional IED"...I hate that! I know it's a reality of war but it's sickening. We are so proud of our boys and girls serving our country. I just think that there wouldn't be any wars if only mother's were allowed to run these countries! That was so sweet that he called you. :D

  19. Hey, you guys don't think that he calls me Mommy Dos because he's hoping to be named in my will, do you????? That's for his real parents to do! Of course, I guess I could make him my executor and he would have to buy the kitty food and litter after I'm gone, since my girls are our only children. I won't tell him that yet, and maybe he'll keep calling. Except not to ask for money...... cookies, maybe but never money.....

  20. God's strength and guidance be with him during this time. And Prayers of peace for you WWM--you know what it is like to sit at home and wait.

  21. I am so happy that your "son" called you, and blow in the hanky all you want! To know that you made a differnce in the life of a child, should give you much pleasure. And for him to remember you, good lord, lady, what a wonderful message he is giving back to you. I will say a prayer for him and his troops safety and another that you were blessed, as you were. Remember that call, it is an acknowlegement of what you meant to him.

I salute you as well. A job well done, and you should be proud. I am.
