  1. Still waiting to hear from Nintendo and Adobe but heard good comments from Seagate.

How goes for those of you searching for jobs or for those of you still searching?

  2. Hope something comes through for you soon, Karin! Chin up, girlfriend and let us know when you hear something! Hugs and Purrs, Lynn

  4. Hang in there kiddo! I'm still sending loads of positive energy your way!

  5. Keep us posted Karin,

Have you called back to Nintendo since it has been more than a week? Also, did you send thank you notes to those that you interviewed with? That can really help them remember you.

  6. ppearson, I sent thank you notes back to the people I interviewed with. I sent an updated email to the HR contact at Nintendo asking if they had any updates on the position since they had said they were going to be getting back to candidates by Aug 31st. It is now Sept 11th which makes me think that either they are not interested in hiring me or they haven't decided who to hire. I do have a phone number and if I do not hear anything by end of today, I might call them tomorrow. The later it gets the less I feel they want to hire. It would be more professional of them to at least let the top candidates know what is going on.

Thank you for your positive thougths. I feel like I am stuck in this current temp job that is going no where fast and I do very little work. Hubby says enjoy the low stress/low work job but it gets so boring and have to look busy when I am not.

  7. Karin,
Good luck with the job search. I keep sending positive energy your way. Just hang in there.

  8. I have tried and tried to add a new subject, but I keep getting rejected!
So I'll just add to this one. My employer called me into the office this aftenoon and told me that my job has been "eliminated" and today was my last day!! I had told him a couple of weeks ago that I was looking for an additional job (I only worked part time at the funeral home), but I didn't expect this. So back to the temp places and job placement service. I've got years of experience, but I'm a "senior citizen" now, and it's going to be difficult. I wish employers would realize the importance of a hard working, efficient, loyal worker as opposed to a young upstart who feels the world owes them a living.

  9. Max and Molly's mom,
So sorry to hear about your job, that's just awful. I hope you can find something soon. I know what that is like, it seems if you reach forty, no one wants you. My hubby would like a different job but companies don't hire, loyal experienced, and trustworthy people anymore. They want younger workers so they can pay them less. By eliminating your job, does that mean, they don't need the program or rememberance cards anymore?
My hubby said, to make sure you file for unemployment until you can find a new job. You might be able to collect a small check to keep you going. Good luck in the job search. Renee

  10. M&M, what a shock that news must have been! You would think they would have the courtesy to give you two weeks notice. It sounds more like vindictiveness for daring to look for more full time work. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I know there is a better job out there waiting for you. Good luck on the job search. Remember, you haven't just gotten older, you've gotten better. Any employer with any brains would value the skills and wisdom you've obtained.

  11. So sorry M&M's mom.
    That's typical company compassion.
    What a crock!
    Karin,
I'm still sending good vibes your way. Now you'll have to share with M&M's mom.
Good luck to both of you.

  12. MMM, I am so sorry you were let go. You would think they would reward all your hard work by giving you two weeks notice. Why is that companies think they can just toss people aside like trash? Professionalism seems to have fallen by the wayside with this "at-will" employment attitude.

Definitely apply for unemployment even it is only a little bit as that little bit will still help. In the meantime, sign up with as many temp agencies as you can and go onto www.monster.com to post your resume as the agencies search for prospective temporaries. I landed my current temp assignment purely by posting on www.monster.com

Good luck, hugs and purrs to you. I hope you find a better job. I know it seems dark right now but as they say, when a door closes, a window opens or something like that.

  13. Thanks for the good wishes, everybody. But let me explain. On their behalf, this is a brand new business. I had worked for the brother's business, a cremation society, for almost a year. It was a small office in the downtown area, which also sold monuments and markers. The brother was sort of an absentee boss, as the office didn't need multiple workers. So, when the funeral home opened, they created this position of concierge for me. Brother then took over his own business. The funeral director, Brian, has been in the business for 10 years, and can do all of the things he delegated to me, by himself, but he was kind enough to offer me the job part time. Last year, I was given the impression that when the funeral home opened, I'd have a full time job. So, I told him a few weeks ago that I needed more than 20 hrs. a week and that I was looking for something to supplement. Now comes the complication. Brian's dad was the director of one of the local cemeteries, had been for a very long time. It seems the other funeral directors in Monroe got a bug up their you-know-what that Brian opened a funeral home-the very idea that someone would give them competition!!! So, they all got together and put pressure on the cemetery board to remove Brian's father from his job, citing "conflict of interest". So, now Brian feels compelled to offer his dad a job, not to mention other members of the family. So, with me being the "new kid on the block", I was the logical one to go. I can't say anything bad about them-it's a wonderful family. Brian said he'd give me a "glowing" reference when necessary. So now you know "the rest of the story", ala Paul Harvey.

  14. MMM - I am so sorry! I don't know how employers think they can treat people like that! However, as Karin says, this just means that something better will come along! Best of luck to you in your job search! Sending hugs, virtual chocolate and lots of positive energy your way!

Posted 4 years ago by Rubia in CA, 4/28 #

  15. Thank you, too, Rubia. As I posted above, I really did leave on good terms. There's no sense in burning bridges.

Also, I forgot to mention that I have already (as of a few minutes ago, on line) already signed up for unemployment.

And Karin, I like to remember the saying is "When God closes a door, He opens a window". Perhaps I won't find where that window is for a while yet, but in the meantime, I know I have a wonderful, loving, supporting "family" here.
    God bles you all.

  16. Bless you too, Max and Molly's Mom. I hope you find your next job soon. I'm glad you will get a glowing recommendation from the funeral home. Lots of positive thoughts coming your way. {{{hugs}}}

  17. MMM, sorry to hear of your new unemployed status, you are in my thoughts & prayers and like everyone else has said, something better is around the corner. Being perceived as an older citizen myself (the over 50 crowd), I understand how it can be looking for a new job.

  18. MMM, sounds like your boss was stuck between a rock and a hard place and he had to do what was right with his Dad. I am sorry you lost your job and hope that you find something soon. Was there anyway they could have paid you a week's severance for at least all your loyalty and hard work. I guess it is a "moot point" now that you are out of the place.

Good luck and hope it all works. I will say a little prayer that you find the job you are looking for and soon.

Posted 4 years ago by SylvesterMiasMomma #

  19. MM, so sorry you lost your job. I know how shocking that must have been for you. I'm glad you signed up for unemployment. Best of luck in the job hunt. I am sure something will come around for you soon. Love, hugs, and purrs. Lynn

  20. You guys are the greatest! I love you all. You've always got something good and uplifting to say. Thanks so much!
Karin-they did offer to pay me until the end of the month, so I'll get my regular check on Friday (tomorrow) and another 2 week check (don't know if that will be tomorrow or I'll have to wait two weeks).

Hey, Karin, can I have your e-mail address? So we can commiserate together???

    Posted 4 years ago by MaxandCali'sMom #

  21. MMM, my email address is Lioness zero three six at yahoo dot com I am very glad to hear they are paying you a severance. That says a lot about your employer. Also glad to hear you signed up for unemployment. There will be some forms and a phone interview and it usually takes anywhere from two to three weeks before anything starts to happen. If you are approved, the check comes about three to four weeks after you apply. Unfortunately it all takes time that an unemployed person doesn't have. This is the case for California so it might not the same for your area.

  22. I'm happy to hear that you will have a little bit of a financial cushion as you look for other employment M&MM. Your employer has a heart which is a refreshing exception to the rule! I will keep you in my prayers.

Posted 4 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  23. I was hoping, having read from the top that they would have given some sort of pay in lieu of notice, so phew! - at least that eases the pressure a little. Good luck to you & Karin, someone's got to have some good news soon!

Posted 4 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  24. We'll keep you posted, for sure. In the meantime, I have extra time to be with you guys (well, gals and guys).

    Love ya.

Thanks for e-mail Karin (just noticed I did have it after all). So nice of you to think of my problems when you have so many of your own.

Thanks everybody for your good wishes.
