  7. My sister (and her furbabies) are evacuating from New Orleans tomorrow. I'm worried sick about them and everyone else out there. Prayers and purrs for them all.

  9. Hi Family!! I'm doing some laundry so I'm gonna hop on and hop off.

In the Houston area, we are all sort of just watching and waiting. It's just way to soon to tell what this storm will do. If I were in New Orleans, I think I'd definitely evacuate. I know they have taken away 1200 people in buses and another 1500 by train. We had our Disaster Meeting at work late yesterday - calling trees have been activated, etc. Another concern (though not as urgent) is Hannah.

A friend and I were talking about how strange it was that the Gulf had been relatively quiet all summer long, and all of a sudden here we are in September and everybody is on alert because there's so much going on. (There are 2 possible storms that are also developing as I type this.)

Like I've said before, I'm pretty much set with supplies and stuff like that. My nephew came home from offshore Thursday night and is right now loading up all of his animals (he lives in Dickinson which is between Galveston and Houston) to take them to some land he has near Austin. He's leaving tonight. He has 7 cats, 5 dogs, 4 horses, 2 cows, chickens, 2 pigs and parakeets of all colors - lol.

His cousins are helping him, loading trailers, loading the trucks. He has another cousin who lives about halfway between here and Austin that he will drop some of the animals there before continuing on his path. He tried to evacuate during Katrina, but the traffic was so horrible he wound up going back home and then nothing really happened. But you better believe he knows how lucky he was to dodge a bullet so this time he'll take no chances.

Also, my dad will go into the hospital on either Monday night or Tuesday morning depending on which way the storm is going. Even if it turns out to be a false alarm and the storm doesn't come, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I'll be sure to keep everybody posted but there's really not a big panic here right now. As I said before, it's just way too soon to tell anything. No matter what the forecast models say - the weather will do what it wants to do and sometimes you get caught flat-footed, sometimes you escape with a relieved sigh.

  10. Thanks for updating us HM.

  11. You stay safe, HM! We're worried about Hanna here on Florida's East Coast, but it's hard to tell where she's headed.
Gustav looks terrifying! They're saying it could make landfall as a category 5!

I heard someone predict early in the summer that when we have a very dry May, we get the hurricanes late - in September and October. Seems the guy way right! Happened with both Katrina and Andrew.

  13. This Gustav is frightening to say the least...It's now being rated a category 4. I hope you all stay safe...you know we'll be worrying 'til this intruder blows this atmosphere completely so please let us know now and then that you're safe or planning to evacuate should it be necessary. :O

Oh no..now Hanna is threatening as well... :(
