I hope I'm not asking for too much but I'm a little scared. Firstly, Wilbur is fine and doing well for a kitty with stage 3 kidney failure. He even played with T-do this morning. Yea! As for me my dermatologist found a small skin cancer on my nose up by my eye. She sent me to a specialist in Houston that I saw today. His comment was "this is nasty" . He will remove the cancer with the Mohs procedure (to conserve as much good tissue as possible). I will then go to a plastic reconstruction surgeon to have the site closed. I will meet with him for a consultation on Friday. I'm not sure when this is going to be done but I am a little nervous. It will take two days, one for the removal and one for the reconstruction. If it's not one thing it's another! Some good TDK prayers would be appreciated. They worked so well for Wilbur! I have no idea why I am so concerned. I have had a 3 level spinal fusion, 5 knee surgeries and gall bladder surgery. I breezed through those but this one is bothering me. I must quit whining! I had to drive from College Station to the Woodlands (about 1 1/2 hours) then I got lost a little. Geez, I hate the big city and I grew up in Dallas! The Houston area has always confused me. Back to the Woodlands on Friday, maybe I won't get lost this time. Sorry for the long ramble but talking to you folks, I already feel better. Thanks for your thoughts. Love ya!

Puddytat needs some prayers
(24 posts)-
Please never be sorry for rambling about something that is bothering you, and any kind of cancer especially would bother me too. Maybe the scary part besides being the "C" word is that is so close to your eyes, imho and the Doc's comment wasn't any big help there. Best wishes for you in the consultation and that it brings you a bit of good news at least or makes you more comfortable with the thought of the whole thing. {{{hugs}}} and prayers out to you and yours. Give Wilbur scritches for me and the crew :)

PuddyTat, never be sorry about getting something off your chest. I don't blame you for being scared. The doc's comment was uncalled for. I hope everything goes well for you and that it is a simple procedure for you and it's quickly over and done with. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know how you are doing. Give Wilber and T-do scritches from me. ((hugs))

PuddyTat, you know that you can always come here with your thoughts, fears, rantings..... whatever. We are your friends and will always be here to support you. Now, as a nurse I must say that I think your doctors comment was insensitive and ill timed. As Azdebra said, just the mention of the word 'cancer' scares all of us. It takes time to process that diagnosis. And maybe you are nervous by virtue of all of your other surgeries. The OR is not a place to take for granted, and the more experience we have in there, the more unnerving an environment it can become.
I used to live in the Houston area, in Sugar Land. It is frightening and so easy to get lost. But now that you have made the trip, you know exactly where you will be going. It won't be so nerve-wracking next time because you will know the route.
You have someone going with you, right? I am so glad that Wilbur is doing better. Now, we will keep you in our prayers. Take good care.

My sister (breast cancer survivor for 20 years) will be taking me. She is amazing and tough as nails. I should mention that after the doc's comment of "nasty" he added "no worries we can fix it". I would like to think he was trying to lighten the mood and inadvertantly missed the mark. Thanks for all of your support. It means the world to me.

Oh my, didn't mean to forget giving scritches to T-do also....can't forget Wilbur's friend and companion.

Puddytat, You have my good wishes going with you for this procedure. I'm positive you will come through the surgery with flying colours.
My mother had the same thing done (Mohs surgery on her nose) in the late 60's. Her doctor had to fight with her insurance for several months to convince them that the more expensive surgery was called for. Her plastic surgeon took skin from behind her ear to close up the cancer site. Her healing ear bothered her more than her nose did and she never had another problem. She died in 2005 and never had any re-occurrences.
Now that the survival rate is hovering around 99% even for previously treated cancers, I know you will be fine. But I know you are apprehensive anyway. It's just something about the "C" word that turns us into whimpering messes.
Ice cream might help.

Oh my gosh, ice cream would be wonderful except I have been on Weight Watcher for over 2 years. I have lost 82 pounds so far. Only about 40 more to go. I will dream about ice cream, brownies and tons of choc chip cookies. I guess I will run to the frig and pull out the watermelon! Thanks for the good thoughts.

have virtual ice cream PuddyTat :) Congrats for your weight loss and your determination to stick to it. How wonderful!!!!!!!!

Puddy, sweetheart, you're home now. This weird little pocket in the ether is home, so you are free to rant, whine, fall apart and go a bit off -- not off the site, but off the tracks.
My father had several skin cancers removed during the last thirty years of his life -- he was a painter, lawyer, and a deeply obsessed fisherman who didn't believe in sunblock. He died of a heart attack.
We are all going to pray, I am starting a new novena tonight, and have faith in God. The Lord never takes you where His grace cannot keep you.
As for the cancer, that is a terrifying word, and doctors frequently have the bedside manners of warthogs.
-
I'm sorry you are so worried, PT, but I can understand why. I agree with Emma--bedside manner of a warthog!
Skin cancers have a very high rate of cure. It may present a bit of a challenge just because of its location, but I'm sure your surgeon will be able to take what is necessary to make sure it is completely gone. I'll be adding my prayers to all the rest that you come through this with a clean bill of health and only Wilbur to worry about. :) {{{hugs}}}

Wow, Puddytat, 82 pounds? Good for you! If you can do that, you can handle this. I understand about it being scary, though, so am sending you big hugs and lots of virtual ice cream (would you like chocolate syrup?).
Hugs for you and scritches and treats for your fuzzbutts.

You folks are the best! I have had a very busy day at work so not much time to think about my problems. They are renovating my office suite and of course it is a mess. We have to move up to the 4th floor for 6 weeks. I don't know if any of you have ever had experiences with PhD's but I work with (take care of ) 7! Animal Scientists all (genetics, nutrition and beef cattle specialists), all cowboys and almost all wonderful. However, getting them to do something they don't want to do is challenging sometimes. I'm also responsible for 12 graduate students. Everyone has been very supportive about this surgery and my problems with Wilbur. They would not dare make fun of me regarding my kitty but, they don't really understand. They just know that I love him so they always ask after him. They are such good guys who try really hard to be supportive but can hold a candle to my TDK family! A small update on sweet Wilbur...holding his own, doing pretty well and still really happy to be home. I think he spent most of the day watching the birdfeeders. T-do is warming up to him and he seems to enjoy the attention from his brother. My daughter and son-in-law are coming tomorrow to visit Wilbur (Abbey is his special good friend). I am going to try to get Jason to get photos up on catster and on TDK so you can finally see the boys. Again, thanks and God bless to all of you.

Sending Puddytat positive thoughts and healing white light. My Dad had cancerous melanoma on his arm and then on the right side of his face by his eye. He had both melanomas removed with not too bad of scaring. As per his last doctor's check up he is cancer free. Sounds like you are in good hands although the doctor should have kept his comment to himself. Saying this is nasty is not helping the patient. Sending Puddytat lots of hugs.

If your doc said, 'No worries, we can fix it,' then I'm sure you can take him at his word and everything will go smoothly and well. Doctors can be insensitive blimmin' eejits though, can't they? and I know I'd be scared too. Skin cancers are very common here and in Australia because of our harsh sunlight but most people seem to come out the other side with no problems, if it's caught early, and yours has been, thank God. Sending calming, healing energy to you and Wilbur and you two take care of each other! {{{Hugs}}}
