  1. Hello, we have five new kittens that are a week old. All seem healthy however one of them has a little bigger tummy than the others. They are all eating but we can't tell about elimination as their mother takes care of that. Should we be concerned or just keep an eye out for any change?

  2. Has the mother been wormed recently? Lil' one could have worms or she/he may just be a more enthusiastic eater than the others. Keep an eye on her, I don't think you should be too concerned. If her condition deteriorates call the vet ASAP.

  3. We gave the mother cat a dose of worm medicine from the vet about six weeks ago. We have noticed that this particular kitten has had a little bigger tummy each day. It appears to be doing OK otherwise. Thank you for answering.

  4. DG you might just watch the little one a little closer to make sure mama is helping her go potty..otherwise you might try a warm damp cloth to try to help stimulate her..If the belly starts to seem tender or too much more swollen, please call the vet. BTW..nice to see you back again, it's been a while since I've seen you post.

  5. Also, if you can spend an hour or two, carefully watch the nursing habits of the entire litter. Sometimes there's one kitten who eats more than the rest. If that seems to be the case with this one, it'd be normal. But if that doesn't seem to be what's going on here, consultation with the veterinarian is probably a good idea.

(That observation period will also give you the opportunity to watch how the mama handles elimination, and make sure that end of the process seems to also be going normally for this particular kitten.)

  6. Thank you all for your help. We're going to keep a close eye on this little one. It's eyes are opening already today. I'm checking every few hours and will followup tomorrow. Again, thank you.

  7. Hello:

Here is some excellent information on what to watch for with newborn kittens. They also mention how to tell if a kitten is or isn't getting enough nutrition from the mother and what to keep an eye out for. Hope this helps.

  8. I watched today and I think we have a little "pig" on our hands. Checked on the elimination and it seems all is well. I think I might've been a little over anxious but I didn't want to let it get to be a problem.

How do you upload your photos? I looked because I thought that it would be fun but I didn't see where I needed to do it. Thank you for all your help!

  9. DG, if you look at your profile, and then click to edit it, you'll see a link to Gravatar, the website that we use to maintain photos to use as our avatars. It's pretty straightforward to set up a free Gravatar account; just make sure you use the same email address as you use in your TDK profile.

  10. And I'm terribly sorry for not saying earlier... I'm very glad to hear it's just the case of a hungry kitten! Sometimes litters are like that. There may be one kitten who eats more than the rest, and grows bigger than the others. Likewise, there may be a kitten smaller than the rest. Glad to hear this seems to just be a case of the former.

  14. The photo for the gravatar is actually from the last litter of kittens. Mama is a feral cat who we took in and had 5 kittens in May. We found great homes for her babies and kept Whisper because he had a bad start and after hand feeding we couldn't part with him. The gravatar is Whisper. Unfortunately, mama cat got out the door while still nursing the last litter and stayed away for one night. Now we have the next litter of 5. We already have homes for 3 of them so we're feeling pretty good and Ms. Lucy, that's mama and Lucky without a K) is banned from the outdoors until we get her spayed. We will keep her and take care of her as she thinks she's a queen.

  19. Hi Dktagirl, welcome to TDK! Sorry I missed this thread before, but glad everything is OK. Whisper is gorgeous, next step for you is to create a Catster page for each of your furry family so we can see them all (greedy huh?!)

  20. Hi, me again. I don't recognize Catster. That sounds like fun but I need to learn how to do it. We have four kitties including Whisper and his mother and lots of photos.

  21. Whisper is beautiful and you are wonderful for rescuing these kittens and looking after the mommy. The world is a better place because of people like you and you just earned yourself a special place in the big litterbox in the sky :)

  22. Bless you for rescuing them and I am glad the kit is a little piggy!

  23. Kittens are two weeks old today. They are all doing well and four of them have their eyes open and the last one has little peek holes on the inner corners of his eyes so it won't be long. They are so precious; my only concern is finding forever homes for them. Whisper says, "Thank you for all the compliments." He wants to add that he's a little bit spoiled.

  24. Just a little update. All babies are doing fine. The little white kit caused me a little worry because her eyes are a week later opening. Yesterday, they showed signs of starting to open and I decided to call her Peek a Boo. We'll be posting some kitten photos when they get outside of their bed. Hugs to all you furry kitten lovers.

  28. Glad to hear that all the babies are doing well, dktagirl! You asked about Catster. That is a website most of us use to create webpages for our kits. You will find it at www.Catster.com. Creating the webpage is free and easy to do. You can upload photos and videos of your kits to the site and include as much or as little information about them as you want. You can also indicate that they are available for adoption! Once you've created a webpage on Catster, you can edit your profile here at TDK and add your Catster webpage address to it. That will link your avatar to the Catster page. Please click on my avatar to see my two kits. :D

  29. Thank you Kitten Whisperer in Oregon for the info on Catster. What a fun site for us to share our babies. Peek a Boo's eyes are both open this morning and today they are three weeks old.
