Hi all! I have been absent for the last week because my honey wound up in the hospital. We still don't know exactly what is going on really. Initial diagnosis was cirrhosis of the liver but now they aren't sure as his liver is functioning normally according to the blood tests. All of his levels were way out of whack--potassium, sodium and albumen and probably a bunch of others that I know nothing about. He has a huge accumulation of fluid in the abdomen--they removed 7 liters in two separate procedures (paracentisis) and said they was probably 7 or 8 more liters in there. He isn't urinating properly in spite of large doses of diuretics so they did kidney and bladder function testing but all of that came back normal so now they are trying to detemine if his enlarged prostate is the culprit (I know, it's probably too much information, but I am hoping some of my friends here who have medical knowledge can give me some insight!). He is home now and a little better but I am still pretty confused. We do have an appointment next Tuesday with his doctor and I hope to get some clarification then but whew! am I tired! It is so good to have a few minutes to visit my favorite place on the web and to catch up with everyone!

Oh my goodness Shelley! I hope they find out what is wrong with your honey!! Poor guy. I am sure you are exhausted as well. I have no insight but will keep you both in my prayers. Keep us updated. ((HUGS))

Goodness Shelley,I'm sorry to hear that hubby has continuing liver problems. I worked essentally on a GI floor where I took care of a lot of liver failure patients. Often when the liver isn't working well,fluid will gather in the abdomen(ascites) and the kidneys won't work so well. Also the pt will have blood clotting problems,ie the tendency to bleed.
