  1. We are here :) Exhausted and dirty but we just had enough time to got to target and buy an air bed, comforter, toilet paper.... the essentials.
Will post more of our story tomorrow when we've had time to recover :)

    Cheers everyone

  3. Welcome, Erin. Call me when you feel a little more settled tomorrow or Monday. In addition to the couches, my mother-in-law had other things you might find useful, at least until you have time to buy what you need. Nothing is really elegant, but there's plates, glasses, cookware, silverware, etc. Some of it you can keep, some of it you can borrow and return when you don't need it.

  11. Welcome to the USA, Airy and Jim-man!!! You made it! Can't wait to hear about all your adventures! :D

  12. Welcome to the United States! I hope you have enjoyed your adventure, but I have a feeling when you are talking plane delays that isn't very enjoyable. Rest and recover and then begin your US adventure!

  13. We are all rested now. We defied the instructions on the air bed and didn't charge it for 12 hours before using it (it was about 4-5) but we plugged in back in straight after. We had a good sleep (i had one set of sheets from nz and we bought a comforter yesterday). We're considering going for an adventure to newport beach today but OMG it's cloudy!!! I thought that never happened here.

I have a question some people may be able to answer. We discovered there's an albertson's supermarket just down the road from us a bit (and over a carpark) and was wondering how reasonably priced they are in the supermarket game. There's a trader joe's on campus but I'm not keen on paying $3 for a bar of soap.

  14. Albertson's is reasonably priced, mid range for grocery stores. Welcome to the US! Now, if only the earthquakes stay quiet. Oops, forgot NZ has them too! Anyway, welcome!

  15. Yipee I Ky..AAAAAAA...Welcome Airy and Jim! Rest your weary bones...tomorrow promises much adventure and excitement. :D

  16. Glad you arrived safely Airy, hope you're all settled soon.

  17. Try to shop at Albertson's or Stater Bros. Avoid Ralph's unless they are having a good advertised special on something - they tend to have higher prices overall but better sales prices.

  18. Airy, do a favour for your real auntie when you get a plastic jug for cold drinks. Buy a can of frozen limeade or lemonade concentrate, mix it up and guzzle it for me? I went thru gallons in Tacoma when I was there and miss it! I can only live vicariously thru you!

  19. Trader Joe's has some of the best food!! Problem it is outragously priced! Alberton's has good sales too. Watch for their 10 for $10. Good luck Airy! Remember to enjoy the adventure!

  20. Albertson's isn't a badly priced store and they do have good sales, Trader Joe's you have to compare and shop, they have good fresh veggies/fruits and more gluten free stuff but can be pricey. So its a kind of feel your way thru the stores for the time being, it won't take long. And yes drink the limeade, it is delicious and less acidic than lemonade on your stomache. And please take CheetahBoysmommy's offer for the things from her m-i-l until you get a feel for the lay of the land (so to speak), that way you don't have to rush for anything.

  21. Woo Hoo, welcome to the US of A, Airy and Jim! Glad you had a safe flight in and are getting adjusted. Albertson's is mid range, but a good store. We have it here, but goes by the name of Acme. You can get some good deals with their sales. Glad you are here and talk to you soon.
