I came home a couple weekends ago from a trip to the Metroplex to find that my cats had made messes all over the house — window sills, hallways, etc. My boyfriend and I later decided that they must have wanted to avoid the flea problem that has cropped up in recent weeks — they avoid walking on the carpet at all costs.
And so we vacuumed repeatedly last week, have used some insect sprays (that claimed to be safe to use around pets), and generally tried to clean things up.
And we had to move the litter box to the kitchen, which is just gross. We tried to move it back to the bathroom, but the cats do not want to walk in the carpeted hallway.
In fact, they still don't want to walk on the carpet at all.
Grumpy uses the litterbox, and I think Snake does some times (although he's also using some soil that my boyfriend is using for his botany hobby).
Spook, to the best of my knowledge, has not. Instead, she's used the window sill a few times, and the big cat/small dog crate in the living room.
We think she's been traumatized by the fleas, as she has also had skin problems due to some allergy.
I have no idea what to do now. So advice would be quite welcome.
