Gas Has Run Out in Georgia
(61 posts)-
You can get all the gas you like in Powder Springs. None of their gas has run out. Spoke with an oil representative in Atlanta. The gas for Atlanta comes from Savanah. Seems that people have been screaming about a shortage and running to the pump to fill up frequently. Orders from the company were not placed to meet the extra demands for gas. There is no shortage other than the fact that the trucks delivering have to make extra trips with extra orders. There is only a shortage because the demand for gas doubled and that was NOT expected by station owners. Again Powder Springs is right next to Marrietta outside Atlanta and there is no shortage there at all. Hopefully this information is helpful.

Hi Sox's Mom...I happen to know where Powder Springs is because...I live there! I came home through Marietta and passed many stations that were out of gas on my side of Powder Springs; maybe the southern side has gas? I'm more on the cusp of Marietta and Powder Springs to the extreme north of PS. I spoke to my son who lives in Hiram and he says they are out; Hiram is just west of Powder Springs. Hmmmm...the plot thickens. I was just thinking that I would drive to the tiny center of town to see if that gas station has gas, then remembered that I filled the tank last night. LOL~SM, how did you get in touch with an oil representative in Atlanta?!

Karen, Tristan is still under the weather. He is eating a little bit (I heat up his favorite Publix chicken and put it in front of him.) He is lying on a chair looking out the window right next to me. He seems neither better or worse. He sat on my lap earlier and purred when petted. I will be calling the vet first thing tomorrow, don't worry.

My sister and brother-in-law are there. My neice and her husband just left Atlanta to go back to California--closer to his family home in Mexico. My other neice left and went to Tennessee. There are cousins there in the area as well. Between my husband and myself we have family in many states.

I live on the south side of Atlanta, and we're having the same problem as CW. I know of at least two stations that I pass on my way to work that haven't had gas for a week now.

I googled this, too and found virtually nothing. That's so odd because you would think that the news would be all over this.

Finally, it hits the news...

It is sooooooooooooo frustrating. I just wonder what good excuse it is to punish consumers like this. First we are paying over $4.00 and then they make it worse by not supplying the gas. I think we should all go picket somewhere. What is Governor Sonny Perdue doing in response to this crisis????????????????
-
It finally appeared in our newspaper, too. And I saw a tag line about it on CNN this morning.

My youngest son is a long haul trucker out of Mississippi and Tennessee. He said that even the truck stop stations that have their own fuel pumps are running dry. This country will be in bad shape if the trucking industry is stopped.

I am at a 1/2 tank and worried. They tell us not to top off and that this is what is causing the problem, people with a 1/2 tank topping off the tank in "panic," by what if I am stranded this weekend and can't get home? Is it panic, or is it foresight to top off and make sure you have enough until this passes?
-
CW, it's foresight when you do it, and panic when everybody else does it... lol.
But seriously, if you know you're going to have to do a lot of running around this weekend for work or whatever and you know half a tank won't do it, it would be imprudent not to get more. I think it's probably people who top off when, if they stopped and thought, they'd realise they didn't need it, that they're worried about...

Last night's Athens paper carried a story about running short of gas here, but that was the first I knew about it.
I was always told to fill my tank when it was half empty in case an emergency that required travel arose in the middle of the night when the gas stations were closed. I haven't done it since I was in college, though.

wow, i wonder why it was so censored??
Here in Toronto Kyle and I heard buzz about a gas shortage in and around Atlanta days and days ago. I wonder why your news stations didn't pick it up? Maybe they didn't want to discourage people from going out and spending money.
The power of the media.

That's what surprised me too, skirty! On Sunday morning, the day after I passed many people out of gas on both sides of the highway and nearly became one of them myself, all the news had to say was all of the exciting things going on in Atlanta. Last baseball game of the season! Georgia State Fair! Not a single warning about not venturing downtown without a full tank or at least enough gas to get you there and back home again.

Hello all
My wife is traveling from Michigan to Florida. She is now reaching the Tenn / Georgia border. She has a full tank of gas in my truck. I only expect that we get about maybe 320 miles out of a tank at most. Can you please reccommend a place where there might me gas. If anyone can help please send me an email at chadbalko@aol.com. I did a google search and fond this blog.
Please Help

That is what caused the problem in the first place. That and the reduced orders due to the change in season. People were buying more because of the problems they had in the past with hurricanes. And it coincided with a time when less is ordered. The gas is in Savannah.
